“Good location for shopping in Phuket Town”
Reviewed March 28, 2010

We stayed at this hotel twice, one night each time. It fitted us perfect as we wanted to make some shopping around in Phuket Town (there are plenty of small shops) and also needed time to arrange and buy ferrytickets to the islands. The Metropole have a swingpool on the roof who was nice to refresh oneself at. The chinese restaurang was ok. This hotel is suitable for those who want to make shopping and for example buying ferry-tickets etc. and only want a hotel for one or two nights and don´t have any intension to stay much time at the hotel. Good value.

Our flight was delayed and V Australia put us up in this hotel overnight. It was the worse hotel I have ever stayed in! The water was brown & wouldn't clear up. The room & bathroom where filthy, old & in need of demolishing. The nightclub downstairs pumped out music so loud you could feel it throbbing through your body until 3am. Got up to go to the toilet during the night and when i turned on the bathroom light, cockroaches everywhere! The sheets were stained, the carpets where stained, the aircon didn't work properly - revolting! I can not belive this is how we ended our 2 week holiday! Thanks so much V Australia!

This big brute of a hotel is found about a 2 minute taxi ride (80 baht negotiated) from the bus station. The lobby is immense, making you think that the $60 you pay for your room will be good bang for your buck, but think again.

Yes, the bell boy will help you with your bags to your room up the elevator (we were on the 12th floor) and yes, breakfast is included, and yes, the rooms are also enormous. But they have no need to be. The TV, not the biggest I've ever seen, is miles from the bed, has a rubbishy cable with FOX (the most infuriating news network I've ever seen) and one or two other ok channels. There is no safe, which there really should be at this price. The rooms have an odd musty smell. All this space, and not very much going on.

There are no free internet points in the actual hotel, and apparently you have to pay 100 baht an hour to use the one in the lounge bar, which, like the rooms, looks the part, but its big glass shelves are not big on variety when it comes to drinks. There is a swimming pool and fitness centre on the fourth floor but I never made to either as they close at the miserly time of 7pm.

Finally, do not book any trips with this hotel. The heinously overpriced boat trip to Phi Phi we booked through the hotel (1200 baht for two people) involved a minibus, which arrived to collect us 5 minutes before the boat was due to leave, with the hotel staff becoming bored with the worried falang who were waiting on the front steps of the hotel for 45 minutes. The boat was a seriously overfilled ferry and we had to sit on the ground because we were so late there were no seats left.

Not a good experience.
