I have stayed there since the property opened backm in 1991 - the real problem on Maiton is the food which historically has been very bad. They have NEVER had a proper F&B person to run the food outlets. This is due to the low occupancy and the high costs assoicated with operating 1st class food facilities.
There was a time when an Italian group rented the island but that was long ago and another story.
If they promoted the Day Trip business perhaps this could help offset the cost of food so they could make proper meals for the staying guests - however the kitchen staff is really not skilled enough to offer a true (good) international dinning experience.
Of course as a paying guest to see a bunch of Day Trip slobs run around the beach is less than desirable.
The island is very romantic and a great place to go for a get away weekend - best to bring your own food and drink though....More
