We stayed at the Kasalong for 3 nights (then one more a little later in the trip) and were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It's a small place (only 16 rooms) so is wonderfully quiet. The rooms are huge, clean and well kept and the staff friendly and helpful. The food isn't brilliant, but completely fine if you're just lazing by the pool.
The hotel itself is about 5-10 minutes (depending on how fast you walk) from Nai Yang beach. The walk there isn't particularly pretty, but if you want a hotel on the beachfront, pay for one. You can always cut through the Indigo Pearl if you fancy seeing how the other side live - if you have friends staying there make sure you meet them by the pool - wow! Alternatively, the alley that runs down the side of it takes you to the beach (watch out for scooters).
As for Nai Yang, its a lovely place. More couples and families that back-packers, but no worse because of that. It's small and relatively quiet, with only one or two bars open late. The Banraa Tree served fantastic food, as did the Octopus next to it. Other than that, grab a sun lounger and a cold beer and relax.More
