We were at this hotel for only one night and were blown away by the standard of service and cleanliness. The rooms were really well designed and stayed very cool even in the tropical heat outside. We both wished we had more time to sit around the pool or paddle the kayaks in the bay. The food was okay, would recommend the Thai dishes for breakfast.

The minute we walked in we were awestuck by the beautiful views .The staff were extremely helpful and friendly espeacially Amy who throughout our stay was a diamond .We had a HUGE double room with unobstructed views with a balcony, rooms were spotless with a fantastic bathroom. Breakfast was great apart from the staff having a few language issues. Cocktails with Tom are a must after 5pm...The location of the hotel is great as its in between crazy Chaweng and Lamai with Taxis and Mini bus pick up trucks (which are very cheap ) taking you to any part of the island.
If youre not good with stairs this may not suit you otherwise brilliant hotel we booked twice after looking at others in the area for the 2nd part of our holiday.Cant wait to be back .Sadia.(UK)

My boyfriend and I recently spent 5 nights in Koh Samui at the Kala. We were in love with the views that the hotel has to offer, as well as the view from our room. We booked a deluxe room and stayed in number 221 (corner room for view purposes). The decor and setup of room is clean, simple and tastefully decorated. We were very happy with the staff at the hotel - particular mention to Amy who had a good grasp of English and is always so smiley and happy :) Amy organised us a scooter through the hotel which was great in terms of convenience. The company drops the scooter off and fetches when you are ready to return - however the price for the scooter is a bit above what you can get in town for a scooter. Roughly 350 baht a day compared to prices of 150 advertised around town. Food is great - each morning they give you a great healthy choice of breakfasts to chose from. Similarly the pricing of drinks is really reasonable considering it is a hotel.
There are only 2 improvement points that I can mention regarding the hotel being the light available in the rooms (at night) is very dim thus if you are needing more light you will be stuck to find any. Secondly, there is a sewage smell on our side of the hotel - not sure of the reason but can put someone off if they have a very sensitive nose (we didn't pick up on it inside the room but as you exit to walk the corridor). Other than that a lovely hotel and a great experience, beautiful private beach and central enough to explore the more busy parts of the island!

Room Tip: if you are going for a deluxe room ask for a corner room - the view is much better :)

Dearest Sweetest South African Couple,

Greetings from The Kala Samui!

Thank you for your comments and insights. I couldn't agree more, this is very helpful to all future guests. Two points i must share are the lights in the room, it has got a purpose why it has been designed as dimmed :) to read there would be a lamp shade on the bed sides. For the smell, it is because when it rains it gives a certain smell from the soil, this has been improved now/odor free :)

Amy/Aey and all the staffs sends their love to you both.

When is your come back? We do hope soon.

We opted for one of the seven one-bedroom villas with a private pool. Room 101 has magnificent views over the turquoise ocean to the busy lights of Chaweng. It also is on the end of the row so is more private and the open-air rainfall shower was very impressive. The private pool is actually on the lower level below the bedroom but is a good size and receives a pleasing amount of sun in both the morning and afternoon. Down another set of stairs and you reach a small sun deck with a table and two chairs – a great spot to sink a few Singha beers while listening to lapping waves. Just a few steps from the sun-deck and you reach your own small rocky beach where the crabs go about their business and you can easily wade-in for a paddle or snorkel.

Dearest Jen Morton,

Greetings from The Kala Samui!

Thank you for your comment. Hope all is well back in UK.

I couldn't agree more, very well said. But i must say that the crabs are really noticeable playing and wondering around the sand and rocks. It is surprising that these crabs shows off and never shy :) if I may share, some guest who stays at the Duplex Pool Villas, stays at the villa for the entire period of stay, they just go out to eat. They shared that they would want to make the most of it and i agreed. It is indeed a room type that you want to stay in forever, I, myself feels the same way.

We miss you guys, we do hope to see you very soon again.

Could not of been happier with the Kala. My girlfriend and I stayed there and were so pleasantly surprised. Amazing views, room was perfect (huge bathtub) and staff were always around and willing to help. Only issue was a slight language barrier with some staff which is easily fixed with some charades. Great location as it's in between Chaweng and Lamai so you can get to either easily but can come home to peace and quiet. Definitely recommend renting a scooter through the hotel. They didn't even try to rip us off.
Couldn't be happier with the stay and would recommend it to everyone.

Dearest Aidan,

Greetings from The Kala Samui!

Thank you for your comment. Funny to read regarding the "charade" but it could be fun too, though some staffs try their best to really communicate in their own special ways.

Please come back soon, we miss you guys!
