We used to stay here in 2002 when it was still in good condition. A few years later we had to ask to move rooms because the carpet was filthy and the room was run down. This year we thought we'd try the property again. Wow...the place does not seem to have any maintenance or upgrades in all this time. The carpet was the dirtiest I've ever seen in a hotel. Everything was worn and soiled. The landscaping seems to have been abandoned. The pool attendants grumbled that we would be charged if towels weren't returned by 630.
Really sad and the worst hotel experience we've had in Hawaii.

Room Tip: If your room is filthy definitely ask to be moved. They seem to have rooms in better condition that are reserved for Japanese clientele.

We came for the beach and it's perfect. The hotel is huge and there is a lot of walking, fine for the fit or getting fit but could be a problem for some.
The food was all very expensive so we ate elsewhere as did the guests I spoke with. The bar at the pool had just okay food but the drinks and bartender were good.
The front desk was slow and very undermanned. When we arrived for check-in there was only one person at the front desk and that was true most of the time.
Expect to pay extra for parking and Wifi.
Worth it for the pool and beach view of sunset.

Room Tip: Choose at least a partial view. If you have any walking problems ask for a room closer to the elevators because it can be a hike out to the end of the hotel wings.

What an awesome location and nice people working at the hotel. The beaach is one of the best and the pool is incredilbel.

It is embarrasing that they Japanese owners of this hotel are so cheap when the rooms cost so much. Wall paper is coming apart everywhere in the rooms and common area. The television is a 15 inch 1970's brand. We had to call three times to fix the air conditioning and it was never fixed properly.

For $700 a night I would expect more. Hey owner's if you are listening how about spending some money in doing a remodel?

Room Tip: Get a room in building 3!

We stayed here while visiting some friends on the Kahola Coast. The ocean suite room was spacious, clean but a bit dated. The lanai and louvered entry door made for a nice cross breeze. The pool seemed a bit small, but maybe that's because the Hapuna Beach is very nice. The hot tub was big, though. We are not into the lounge and restaurant scene so we got our groceries and dinners off resort.

Room Tip: any ocean view is a good view

The hotel is in a great location but the rooms were very dated. We switched rooms 3 times before finding a room that did not smell of mold. I loved the property but the smell of the rooms kind of ruined the experience. I do have to thank the managers of the property for upgrading my room to ocean view in order to not have such a musty smelly room. They really went out of there way to make my experience as pleasurable as possible. The location is great. Beautiful beach. Nice restaurants. Pool was nice but no slides for children. If the rooms were updated the hotel would be 5 stars.
