Great rates great staff great location. We felt relaxed staying there. We stayed down the coast at another resort and ended up checking out early and going to Hapuna Prince hotel for the rest of our vacation. We plan to return each year!! Great value and sister hotel is Next door with private beach spa etc.

my ex and i stayed @ the mauna kea for 9 years. when it was damaged by an earthquake a few years ago we were moved to the hapuna prince. although the hotel doesn't have the landmark design of the mauna kea, the same level of service, comfort and kindness prevail. as repeat guests we were comped the excellent buffet breakfast. i actually have come to prefer the hapuna beach which connects to the state beach park. the food @ the coast grill was ok but sadly the restaurant was empty the night we ate there. we preferrred the revamped pavilion/ terrace @ the mauna kea ( although the hostesses seemed to think it was a privelege to get any help from them) staff have communted from hilo to work here and the service is excellent. it ois amazing to me that visitors would pass up the hapuna prince and mauna kea which have real beaches as compared to other resorts on the kohala coast which do not

Room Tip: ocean front rooms are great

The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel was a little piece of Heaven on Earth. I read many reviews before visiting and upon arrival was overwhelmingly pleased. During our 10 day visit, each day became more and more awesome. The views were spectacular, the pool and beach exceptional, the service very, very good, the space and ammenities wonderful. The room was sufficient, the bath perfect ( two sinks, large tub, seperate toilet and shower) & very comfortable beds. Maid service was daily and efficient and quick. For those who want "night life" please visit Oahu. The Big Island is a peaceful, quiet, earlly evening place where you go to relax, find quiet, and let all the stresses of your life disappear. Will revisit next year. A wonderful & fabulous getaway! Aloha & Mahalo.

Live in Kona and enjoyed our three day get a way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's an older hotel so a little dated but very comfortable and clean. Loved the huge bathroom and fairly large lanai. My husband and I both work in the hospitality business here and didn't find the front desk staff overly friendly (I think they were just 'indifferent' although the staff at the poolside restaurant were very pleasant.

The beach is beautiful and the pool large and seemed heated.
It was pretty quiet at night so we drove to the Blue Dragon in Kawaihae where they have live entertainment in their open bar/restaurant. All in all for a beachfront hotel we felt we got a great value for the price

I think the hotel would do well to give every guest a map of the layout of the hotel. Since it is large and spread out, it is also hard to maneuver. I realize part of the problem is that buildings cannot be more than a few stories high and a hotel wants as many rooms as possible, but we actually got lost more than once because this hotel is huge. Signs and a map would fix that.

Other than that, the rooms are beautiful, and the beach wonderful. There are a lot of feral cats that reside on the property that are warm and friendly too. When travelers are away from their pets back home these kittles are a welcoms sight. I'm sure I'm not the only one that fed them--bought a box of food for them actually. Wanted to take one home with me too.

Would stay here again now that we know the layout a little better. Would recommend staying here because of the beach and the lovely rooms.

Room Tip: Terrace rooms have patios and lawn-lovely/cheaper

After staying at the Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui last year we wanted a hotel where we could afford more nights. There were a few negative reviews for The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, but overall they were good. The first night we checked in after 10 PM, so there wasn't much to see from the lanai. In the morning we didn't have the view of the ocean that we had expected. I asked at the front desk and was given another room in building 4 and the view of the ocean and beach couldn't have been better. I enjoyed coffee every morning on the lanai watching people swim way out and others walking the beach. At night we closed the screen doors and could hear the surf. Some reviews had said that the rooms were dated, however we were very satisfied with our room. The beach had chairs and umbrellas available at no extra cost, at the Fairmont last year you had to pay for an umbrella. The beach was truly was everything we had read about it. One day we went to the Kua Bay Beach at the Kekaha Kai State Park which is a well rated beach. The road into it was so bad, we turned around and didn't go. The restaurants hours at the hotel were limited, but the Kings Shops and the Queens Market Place at Waikoloa was only 10 minutes away. We stayed 12 nights and there is still a lot of the island we didn't see. The helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian from Hilo to the Kilauea Volcano was well worth it. After we have seen all of the islands, we will be back.

The ocean front rooms in building 3 looked like they wouldn't have given us the views that we had in building 4 on the 8th floor. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pool was great and never crowded.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for an ocean view and request bldg 4

Is is my last day here and I'm sad to leave.
We have had a room in building three on the top floor. Building three is closest to the ocean and farthest from reception. For those of you who may not want to stagger far to yournroom, it's approximately 250 steps from reception to our room and two elevator rides! The benefit is a very quiet location. At night all you can hear is the ocean and the wind in the trees. There is no lighting in front of the building on the lawn area so it is also pitch black. Great feeling of being alone. Dont worry, it's all lit at the back to find your way to your room ;).
It's quite a nice hotel. Clean. Spacious and airy ...and Quiet. Not full of people.
Our room was clean n well kept. Nice size lanai overlooking the beach n ocean. King bed. Tv not super modern but I'd rather be on my balcony than watching tv so I don't care. Safe n small fridge. BAthroom nice. Bath, separate shower, double vanity and toilet is sectioned off with a door of it's own for extra privacy.
Restaurants were ok. They rotate the opening ours of the restaurants cos I guess they aren't busy enuff to be open all the time.
Beach is gorgeous and lots of space. Poolside is nice and again never over busy. U can sit poolside and still feel the beach. It's just steps away.
Staff have been really good. They were addressing us by name within 24 hours.
Negatives.
Yea parking chrges are a bind since u really do need a car. Find the local supermarket and get your own booze in to sit on your lanai. Oh yea this one bitty thing we found annoyed us. We had two glasses in the bathroom. After day two we only ever had one but when're asked to borrow more for drinking in our room they sAid it would cos $5! When they came they were teeny glasses! We hid them so the cleaner didnt take them ;)
I would happily stay here again.
