Absolutely gorgeous beach!!! Quite a hidden gem. Get there by 9 am for best parking. It’s a small beach and smaller parking lot but worth it! There is a bathroom at the end of the road where you walk to the beach.

Fortunately we brought along a beach umbrella because there was no shade on what I believe is the longest white sand beach on the Big Island. Entry was $5 per car. Almost no stones underwater. Somewhat windy with lots of boogie boards but nice swimming out further.
White sandy beach with plenty of shore break waves offering those a diverse list of activities to be done here. Surfing, body boarding, boogie boarding, sand castles, beach strolling, people watching and just playing in the water. Snorkeling may not be all that good. Multiple life guards on duty. This beach is fairly large and makes for a good beach stroll sunrise, sunset and during the day. Plenty of room to spread out. Limited shade is available. Beach umbrella recommended. Bathrooms/changing area are available along with a covered picnic spot. Plenty of parking is available along a $5.00 entrance fee.
After almost drowning in my first attempt to snorkel in the ocean, we drove to the (similarly) isolated area of Hapuna Beach which provided a perfect place to watch the sunset. I didn't attempt to go into the water again but upon watching the surfers there, I had the opinion that this may have been a better beach for me to have made my first attempt. I'm interested in other opinions by poor swimmers.
wonderful quintessential Haqwaiian beach, warm silky sand, gentle slope, sandy bottom, don't need shoes! The surf is big in the winter, perfect for boogie boards. Very mild in the summer. Clear clean waster, fish and turtles often spotted. Perfection.
Three of us from our family of eight went to the beach around 10:00 AM on a Monday morning. The beach is free but there is a $5 fee for parking. Plenty of parking at that time but when we left several hours later the parking lot was overflowing. Go early. The sand and water are very clean and the swimming was wonderful. I am in my 70’s and not a particularly strong swimmer at my age but the water was not too rough so that my daughter-in-law and I managed to go a long way out. We just jumped up when a swell came in and rode the wave back down. It was exhilarating! We also had a huge green sea turtle come swimming right up to us. Less that five feet away before he mosied on down the beach. One caution. I should have used more sunscreen. If you are holed up in a cold climate with little sun exposure all winter it is easy to overdo the sun time when you get to a beautiful warm place like Hawaii. Got a little burned but it was still worth every minute.
