Beautifully maintained hotel, the situation and gardens are paradise. A little remote if you want anything other the hotel facilities. But everything is on site. Situated on a rocky coast where turtles pull up to rest, a small white sand beach had been created for water sports and children. The only drawback for us was the cost of the food, 25$ each for breakfast and not much change out of 150$ for dinner without wine is a bit rich. The food is good, but not that good !!! Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Stay here if you can afford it, or stay and starve yourself ??!! The staff are lovely, friendly and personable.

We had the most amazing time. Everything was perfect from the moment we pulled up and got our beautiful beaded lais from the bellman. Geanna greeted us by name at the front desk all the way throughout our 8 night stay and was so sweet.

The staff is so accommodating and always smiling!
Special people on staff that we met were:
Elaine- poolside. She never stops running and doing while wearing a smile
Amon- lagoon. Bright and early every morning at 6 am you can find him setting up the guest’s cabanas and organizing the beach. He works so hard and always has a can do positive attitude
Caroleena- reservations. So helpful - she made sure our room accommodations were perfect!
Nanea at Orchid Grill breakfast. Such a hardworking and positive person. We enjoyed our conversations with her
Estrella- turn down service. Made sure room was restocked with ample towels and tidying up was immaculate
Roweda- smoothie maker at orchid grill. The best smoothies ever served with a smile
Mark Eric- omelette station- greatest omelettes- perfect every time!

In addition, our meal at Browns was delicious, romantic and our server was great. The chef made sure the fish I had requested earlier in the week was available for my husband and me!

So many people became our Ohala that week.

The only negative- our most expensive meal was the luau. Food was horrible - unappetizing at the buffet with flies swarming all over the food. The show was fun. Shell necklaces that were cheap were embarrassing to wear.

We booked a week long stay at the Fairmont using Costco Travel and took advantage of an excellent deal.

The hotel itself is well maintained, the rooms spacious, and the bathrooms clean and well equipped. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive.

The pool area is very large, my only complaint is the water temperature in the pool was a bit warm. Many chairs surround the pool, some with shade covers. Private cabanas and round couch chairs were available for rent. It can get busy in the later morning, but in general I didn't have a problem finding a spot to camp out. There were three hammocks in the area which were nice.

We didn't eat at the restaurants although take out at the Brown's Deli was good, and I liked the pizza which I though was a great deal at $10.

The beach area was nice - there are lava reefs extending on both sides which kind of limited the surf, but made the swimming area safer. There also was surprisingly good snorkeling right off the beach on both sides of the reef. While not Hanauma Bay snorkeling, there was a nice variety of colorful fish and an occasional turtle.

Running in Mauna Lani was great - a 4.5 mile round trip from the Fairmont to the highway where you enter the resort area was a good workout with much of the first half being uphill. Runners also can venture from the Fairmont to the Mauna Lani beach club on the other side of the resort for a slightly longer run.

Families, couples, conventioneers, and everyone else can find much to like at the Fairmont Orchid!
