We stayed here for a few days this past August. The Fairmont Orchid is a beautiful, if not large, hotel. Our room was modern, and out marble bathroom was enormous. The staff is helpful enough, and the Fairmont has plenty of activities, such as stand-up paddle boarding and morning yoga. Additionally, the snorkeling is amazing, with sea turtles everywhere.

You will need to venture outside of the hotel for dinner, although Brown's Beach House was very good (although on the pricier side).

This Fairmont has a large pool and a decent-sized sheltered beach (no waves). However, space at both the pool and the beach fills up quickly, so make sure you get out and claim your spot fairly early.

Overall, a nice Hawaiian resort, but a little pricey.

Fairmont resorts and hotels firmly believe in responsible tourism, they go to great efforts in preserving historic landmarks which add to the beauty of each location. That being said, Fairmont is continuously using culture as the inspiration to their essence in every hotel. The Fairmont Orchid located on the Kohala Coast of the breathtaking island Hawaii is no exception. The moment you enter this extraordinary place you are immediately welcomed with an “Aloha” and your extraordinary experience begins. I had the privilege of experiencing this unique resort. The moment you walk through the doors, the aroma of Hawaii embraces you. Countless adventures are offered to anyone through activities such as hikes to historic landscapes, paddle boarding, kayak fishing and outrigger canoe paddling. As well, the resort includes a 36-hole golf course with world class tennis courts and the ever so popular Keiki Aloha children's program, so the little ones may create their own memories at this exciting location. Of course you’ll want a satisfying meal after such an exciting day. Choices for dining experiences include Brown’s Beach House, which is an AAA Four Diamond Award winning restaurant, and Hale Kai is the ever most famous casual family restaurant. Both are only a slight selection of what is offered at the Fairmont Orchid. The resort is complete with a perfect view of a glorious Hawaiian sunset to welcome the moon to a new Hawaiian night on the ocean breeze. That is of course the night does not end without the Ali’i performing the nightly sunset torch lighting ceremony and blowing the Pu (conch shell) to the four winds. They’re often seen in the early evenings running the resort perimeter with giggling children tagging along behind them, concluding a perfect day. The Fairmont Orchid is appropriate for any traveller, whether it is for a romantic Hawaiian sunset wedding, a business conference in the relaxing atmosphere the resort offers, or a adventurous family vacation you'll remember for years to come. I encourage anyone and everyone to choose Fairmont Orchid so that you may not only have a wonderful Hawaiian vacation, but an excellent guest experience as well.

This was a great trip to spend time relaxing and some low key surfing. Because of the way the waves break across the entry to the bay you actually get a very long ride into the beach. I booked one of the instructors for two sessions during my stay and he was really helpful in learning some new techniques. Hotel is really nice and centrally located to be able to get up to Waikoloa or down to Kona. However on the downside if you are going to spend a lot of time in Kona and south, it is a lot of driving. Nice hotel, and spa would definitely recommend.

Not, quite as nice as Fairmont on maui. I did like it better than the Hilton on kona It was quite busy with conventions so a bit overcrowded and cost a bit more as not as many rooms available. Weather was awesome. Oh, had to change rooms 2 times they were overbooked and first night given room with no view next day at around 3pm we had to make the move it was worth the trouble of moving. first room was back by maintenance with no view.

Room Tip: ocean views

Aloha and thank you for your review.

We are happy that you were able to enjoy the Kohala Coast's amazing weather where our resort is bathed with sunshine nearly 365 days per year and is one of the state's driest regions. Please accept our apology for the inconvenience of having to change rooms; we are pleased that you were happy with your new location. Thank you for choosing to stay with us, we hope to welcome you back one day soon!

We stayed at The Fairmont Orchid as an anniversary celebration destination, and we opted to stay on the Gold level. That made our visit a total delight! Stacy and Stephani, our concierges, were so welcoming and so extremely helpful. They made our visit on the Big Island delightful, both with their great personalized attention, and their recommendations of things "not to be missed" away from the property. The resort grounds were impeccably maintained, making it pleasant just to walk around and enjoy the abundant blooming yellow hibiscus, the calm and inviting views of the ocean, and sunset. The staff was incredibly hospitable, and we were always greeted with a smile and a cheerful "aloha."

Breakfast on the Gold level was exquisite, introducing us to treats such as pickled lotus root, ono, along with smoked Scottish salmon and plenty of fresh island fruits The pineapple was the best we'd ever had. The evening offering of hot hors d'oeuvres was truly a treat, with fresh sushi and other interesting nibbles available before heading out for sunset and a walk on the beach before dinner. The torch lighting ceremony was a magical thing to witness. A bit of Hawaiian culture blending with gorgeous sunsets made the days memorable. After dinner it was wonderful to return to our room to find the bed turned down and pleasant video about Hawaii on the television. Our only direct contact with the Housekeeping staff was with Lilian, who was so sweet and charming we wanted to ask her to join us for the day! She too, was concerned that we wanted for nothing to make our stay more pleasant. From our first contact with Tim, our bellman, to our last contact, Hugh, as he brought us our rental car, we had a most wonderful week. It was our first visit to Hawai'i, and we came away with the feeling that "Hawai'i must be heaven, and if it isn't, it will serve as that for us!"

As we boarded our plane to leave, we felt truly refreshed and happy, and we now know the true meaning of the spirit of Aloha. Yes, we will return to the Fairmont Orchid! Aloha!

Room Tip: Stay on the Gold level - it is worth every penny. Our garden view room had the sound of the waterfal...

*valet engaging with a BIG Aloha greeting

* check-in, was already checked in before we hit the desk and the bellman whisked us to our room

*rooms clean but could have had a better cleaning, missed some small spills here and there

*Beach & pool perfect

*Dining - in room dining perfect, Deli still good, beach service lunch and drinks, fast and tasty- Nori's big change, from good to excellent service and food. Thank you chef, the menu changes are what were use to when dinning at a Fairmont!!!!!
