We stayed at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel last year and have thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and the grounds. The room (we got upgraded to a Partial Ocean view) was very comfortable and spotless. Every staff member we interacted with was extremely friendly and helpful. The snorkeling at Makaiwa Bay is excellent, the visibility was pretty good the majority of the time we were there, the corral is beautiful and there is a multitude fish. We even saw a white tip reef shark. We'll definitely be back.

We stayed at a different hotel on the Kohala coast prior to arriving at the Mauna Lani. Wow...what a difference! The Mauna Lani staff have been outstanding, the property is beautiful, and the room is clean and relaxing. What a treat!

Room Tip: An ocean view room is well worth the cost.

We stayed here 5 of our 7 nights (2 nights at volcano village lodge) .the grounds are expansive and beautiful. I liked the relative quiet of this resort. The room (beachfront corner) was just a tad dated but are being updated currently, I'm told. Very comfortable , clean, and pleasant. Just need to have a little more bang for the big bucks( which I assume is in the works) It was a good location for walking 5 min to snorkel at fab makaiwa beach area. I enjoyed the hammocks and the cover-able chairs at ML beach. Nice staff, very very helpful. Stay here for a classic Hawaiian resort experience. No disappointments!!

Room Tip: I liked the top floor , wouldn't pay extra for corner again, tho, probably.

Went here on recent conference. This resort was fabulous! Rooms were well appointed and meticulously clean. Hotel grounds had interesting places everywhere including small rivers and ponds with multitudes of tropical fish. Every sitting area was a different beautiful scene. Many free things to do including bicycling, ukulele lessons, lei making, historic walking tours including royal ponds and petroglyphs , snorkeling with tropical fish, swimming with large turtles right off the beach, Hawaiian culture/language lessons, fish feeding, tropical palm reed basket making, hula dance, Hawaiian shows, etc. Danny Akaka of the Cultural Center is very knowledgable of the Hawaiian culture, friendly, and he makes you want to experience more. There was so much to do I did not have a chance to play golf nor take advantage of the spa. There is also free transportation to the Shoppes on the property, free wifi, and a free laundry complete with detergent and fabric softener sheets!
The food at the receptions and awards functions of our organization was great, which is not what one expects from a free buffet. The hotel staff, down to each maid and valet, were exceptionally friendly and really made you feel a valued guest.
The beauty of this place is breathtaking and I would come back here in a heartbeat. I hope our organization considers a return conference in the near future. I cannot say enough good about this hotel.

From the moment you pull up and step out of your car it becomes obvious that you are someplace special. The friendly guys at the valet stand took care of our bags, and car while we walked into a beautiful open air lobby and we seated at a desk to check in. As part of the check in process you are presented with leis, a cool towel and a glass of tropical juice. At check in the provide you with a resort map and a calendar of all the activities offered.

ROOM: We had on ocean front room on the second floor and it was fantastic, yes, the view is just like the website. You could see some wear and tear on the room, but it was well appointed, extremely comfortable and clean. (I can't wait to see the rooms after the big renovation). One of my favorite things about the rooms at the Mauna Lani are the large lanais. They are very spacious and include a table, two chairs and a lounger. Perfect for relaxing and watching the sun set. Bathroom was a nice size with double vanities and a separate water closet, perfect for the two of us getting ready to go out. They also have a mini fridge which is great for snacks and drinks (you can stock up at the market up the road).

GROUNDS: The best part of the Mauna Lani is the fantastic grounds. You could spend your entire stay here wandering around and enjoying all of the wildlife and beauty. The beach out front has some great snorkeling (swim out past the yellow buoy) and is great for some fun cooling off. I loved the fact that they have complimentary cabana chairs on the beach. We never had to wait for one to open up. They also provide drink and food service on the beach as well. We didn't use the pool (beach was too great), but it looked very nice and also provided plenty of seating.

SERVICE: The service here was great! Everyone we came into contact with was warm and friendly and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. I really enjoyed chatting with a gentlemen who worked the valet stand about Ukelele Music. We were here for our anniversary and the management sent a nice card and bottle of sparkling wine to our room the first night and it was a great treat to enjoy as the sun set on our balcony.

ACTIVITIES: The hotel offers great variety of activities. We went on the Hawaiian Cultural tour with Danny and loved it. Learned about the history of the area, the Hawaiian Islands, the fishponds and the petroglyphs.

The Mauna Lani is a terrific place to stay. The service is great but not stuffy in any way. You can be as active or relaxed as you want. We took some great walks on the shoreline trail, snorkeled, enjoyed the sea turtles and beautiful sites. I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are awesome!
