“Nice for Swan winery venue even if not into beer”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Like the grounds and how everything is situated, but a bit to "cafeteria" for my taste....however...tasting room was well presented and doing a glass and nibbles in the lounging area with plate glass views to the lake and grounds is worth doing.

“Has lowered standards”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

I enjoy going to the german microbrewerys and have been to the Duckstein before and had wonderful meals service and atmosphere, unfortunately today had to be one of the worst servicesI have had in any restaurant (including maccas).
The service was none existent for all tables we had to wait an hour before our order taken half an hour later no drinks arrived so we got our own plus water finally after a 2hr wait the meal arrived. We had to go to the bar which had a long que as everyone was tired of waiting for drinks
The manager did offer a free round to apologise which we declined to take as we again waited another half an hour for waitstaff to approach our table. The only good service we recieved was paying our bill (2 staff attending the register).
I advise everyone to avoid like the plague until new owners and managers come in.

“A Bit Seedy”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

As we arrived at the entrance to the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon there was a sizeable queue of people to be seated. However a table was found quickly. That's where the good news ended. The previous client's dirty dishes remained for a long time, our order took equally as long to come and the entire outdoor area felt in need of a lot of TLC. On the bright side there was a great couple singing which was helped take our minds off the awful surroundings.

“No longer a good place to visit”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Unfortunately this place needs a good clean. The owners obviously do not believe in maintenance. Noisy fans, broken light bulbs and generallly a very run down, greasy feel about the place.
A table of 24, we were served platters starting with german sausage - this was ok. The next platter served was barely heated party pies and sausage rolls - in a german themed restaurant??? Next platter was pizza - again in a german themed restaurant??? It continued next with battered greasy fish and prawns litterally swimming (drowning) in some sort of sauce. Honestly the food was terrible.
It is such a shame because with a little attention to presentation of the restaurant and serving german themed food this could be a great restaurant.

“Not Impressed”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Alarm bells started ringing when we turned up.....about four party buses were parked out the front and the atmosphere was loud and rowdy with what appeared to be hens/bucks gatherings. We were there for a birthday and had our children with us. We found our table which was outside not inside as had been booked. Being near the smoking area meant we got to breathe in cigarette smoke in our meal area which was disgusting. We asked to be moved to another table which didn't happen - they closed the plastic blinds instead meaning no air flow under the hot tin roof. On a 40 degree day this meant we were all sweating profusely and very uncomfortable. The waitress came to take our drinks order and took off before we had finished giving our order. We then tried to order our meals and were told there was no mixing and matching side dishes included with the meal - we had to have exactly what was on the menu and any other sides as extras. Once we had ordered our meals it took over an hour before the entree arrived and the mains and hour and a half after that. In the whole time we waited (and sweated) the atmosphere was intimidating with drunk yobbos and drunk girls on hens day parties. It was definitely not the place to be for a nice family lunch. The food was overpriced and average. The two piece band was lovely and they gave the kids colouring activities but would not recommend or be going back again. We used to enjoy the Duckstein but it won't get another chance to re-impress us.
