Our second wonderful stay in the capable hands of Sue at Cadair View Lodge, perfect for us to recharge our batteries after a busy Christmas and New Year.

Nice and cosy, excellent facilities, a great welcome pack and the effortless booking / paying online combined with the stunning location and a great pub a short walk away for wifi, beer and lovely food made this a perfect place for the middle of January!

Room Tip: Use soft bags rather than suitcases to stow them under the bed.

This was our one trip away this year and from start to finish it was a disaster. Sue never returned emails or phone calls unless she was badgered and this was for a booking in early September when the kids had gone back to school. Goodness knows what it might be like in the holidays.
We should have seen this as an omen. On the surface of it Pine Tree Lodge looked OK but once your eyes adjusted to the gloom the filth and stench started to grow on you. Apart from the lack of working lights, no working grill or electric fire, the sink hadn't been cleaned for an age, the bin stank, the oven gloves we threw out, there was no tea towel and there was crumbs etc all over the furniture. The drawers had attraction leaflets from way back and we even found a till receipt in the drawer from 1999!
The bathroom contained other guests used hygiene products, the shower was disgusting, the toilet mat we threw out due to the stench and the overall filth behind the toilet was beyond being missed for a week or two, it was years old.
If we hadn't brought our own quilt and pillows and the location being 3 hours from home we would have gone home there and then because the smell of repeated use and lack of cleaning of the provided bedding was beyond reproach. We put it in the spare bedroom and shut the door but unfortunately the mattress on the double started to breed the same smell when it got warm from our bodies.
Overall I would advise anyone thinking of falling for the customer service statements on their website think again. The have no idea what customer service is. This has been validated as we have heard nothing after our complaints. No apology nothing. Cadiar view Lodge is the worst holiday break we have ever had, e could have forgiven it's bric-a-brac appearance but there is no excuse for a lack of cleanliness. I will of course be looking for recompense by other means.

My wife, Springer Spaniel and myself have just got back from staying at Cadier View Lodge cabin 62. Our special offer 5 night stay for £250 was great. The cabin was clean, cosy and perfect for 2. Fully equipt kitchen was a big bonus and great decking outside the cabin door where we could let out dog run about on his own. The weather was great and we used the new table outside for breakfast and dinner. We did lots of driving about to beaches, towns and Snowdon and were ideally located. The bedrooms are small but this made it cosy. Bathroom had shower only that was a very tight fit. I would definatly return but for 4 adults this could be a tight squeeze! Website says sleep 6! no chance!!!

We spent a long weekend at cadair view lodge with our dog in cabin 62. Fantastic place to stay- the cabin was very clean, warm and cosy. The beds were comfy, and good amenities in the cabin- flat screen tv, digital tv and dvd player. It was a brilliant base for our weekend of walking, and was especially nice to come back to when we got thoroughly soaked!! The information that Ray and Sue had provided in the booklets was very useful as well about nearby places to eat and good walks. The nearby pub is nice enough, but we found a lovely pub called the saracens head in a village called Beddelgert, which is about half an hr drive away and worth the drive. We would definately return to cadair view lodge!!

We stayed on a bargain Sunday to Friday break in cabin 63 TY Coed and we were pleasantly surprised. When we arrived there were candles lit and music playing - a lovely touch, there was also a basket with bread, milk, tea and coffee. The cabin was quite compact but very well equipped, with a great freesat TV, DVD player and CD player, books, games and all kitchen equipment (although the cooker seemed quite old) the bathroom however had been recently refubished. The views from the enclosed verandah over the Rhinogs are stunning, this gave the cabin quite a remote feel. It was great to have breakfast overlooking the views.
If we had one complaint it would be the size of the bedroom which was only slightly wider than the double bed, so rather cramped.
The location is ideal for walking and mountain biking being only 3 miles for the Coed y Brenin forest with great mountain biking trails.
We had very unsettled weather and did not manage to climb Cadair Idris or the Arans as we had planned, but there are plenty of shorter walks and great biking in the area. The Mawwdach estuary is a fascinating area.
We will definitely return but only if we can get a bargain break, we would have been more critical if paying the full price.

We stayed at the bungalow next to the pub at the top end of cadair view lodges. We had 4 adults and 5 teenagers staying for the weekend and thought that we might be a bit squashed. However, when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The bungalow was very well equipped and moderately spacious. We brought a lot of things from home, for the kitchen, but found we didnt need them, Archie, from the pub next door, was also very welcoming and gave us a few tips and ideas. The views were also amazing and would recommend it to anyone.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2011

Just had a week in cabin 62, which was the same one as the previous people who left their review on 9th August. We booked a last minute break for the family (2 adults and 2 teenage boys and our cocker spaniel). The booking arrangements were easy. Sue was lovely on the phone and gave us lots of ideas to do when we arrived. The cabin was small but almost perfectly formed, it was a little rough or should I rustic around the edges, and for a week with the 4 of us it was getting a little claustrophobic towards the end. Our double bed was fine, but my husband had to climb over me to get in an out as you can only get in on one side. The boys did find the bunks somewhat uncomfortable, the mattresses are probably fine for younger children but a bit thin for older ones, they ended up sleeping on the sofas in the end. The location of the site is brilliant, very central for visiting the wonderful sights Snowdonia has to offer. My husband and the boys went to Go Below (they do not take dogs so I could not participate, but I had a nice time wandering around Porthmadog instead) and they really enjoyed this, it is quite an active trip so not for the unfit but great fun. We all managed Snowdon, including the dog, going via the Miners Track, that was quite an achievement and the cream tea at the top was very much appreciated. Would we go to Snowdonia again, a definite Yes the scenery is stunning, would we stay at Cadair agaiin - yes we would. Although it was small everything was provided for and well thought out and we had no worries with the dog (who appreciated the treats left by Whiskey in the provisions basket on arrival).
