“Holidaying at Home”
Reviewed November 16, 2013

A truly relaxing place to holiday in Goa. Away from the hustle and bustle of tourist cramped hotels by the beach, Arco Iris is neatly tucked in a small cosy village, overlooking a lake and a riverside close by.The food is amazingly good and the caretakers are always happy to brew up a tea or coffee anytime. Always with a smile. The living room is such a lovely place to read, watch tv or relax.

Room Tip: Every room is different and unique.

My wife and I visited Arco Iris and we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. The property is fantastic, spacious and clean. Our hosts, Beni,Ganesh, Trusha and Trikaya were truly hospitable and made our vacation memorable. The home cooked food is excellent and gave us an opportunity to experience Goan cuisine.

Curtorim is a lovely quiet little hamlet and is a welcome change from the commercialized and crowded North Goa and is a short drive from several unexplored beaches.

We stayed at Arco Iris for two nights and then stayed at the Taj Fort Aguada for a night and our stay at Arco Iris was much more hospitable and enjoyable than at Taj.

Very well maintained place, in a lovely quiet nook of the world. Easy to get to the beach and to the hills / forests. The place has all the modern amenities, very clean and very well run. Extremely good service. Great food. But the best part was the way we become part of their family. The place is like an extended family - with Beni and Gani talking to us about our interests, and sharing theirs - while also ensuring it was not intrusive. Pointing us to other guests who might have a shared interest. And soon, its a gathering at dinner or breakfast. Our daughter did not want to go anywhere else - she wanted to just stay at Arco and be with her new friends.

Blind option on the web turned out to be the best!!
The place is absolutely cosy and fantastic hospitality. You never feel you are staying in somebody else's house. Beni and Ganesh are a great couple to make your homestay memorable . The home cooked food is just delicious. If you want to tuck away from the maddening crowd of those beachside resorts and inns, Arco Iris is the place. The ambeience and the food are the main attractions.

Highly recommended - our future stay in Goa will be nowhere else.

Fantastic experience and one of the best holidays we have had , far away from the madding crowd.
Ganesh, Benny, Trisha and Trikhaya are a family who with their old world hospitality live up to the old Indian adage " Athithi Devo Bava" . So much history in that lovingly restored old house. Curtorim is a little piece of heaven on earth . Sitting on the patio reading or just having a cup of coffee was the ultimate in a relaxed holiday. Will be back soon !!

It was a blind option out of many from the web sites and magazines. It is our third home stay and our expectations were set high in ambiance and food. It was a very serene place and glazed in rain to give a picturesque view. The house reminded my husband's ancestral home (Nalu kattu in tamil) with mutram(inner courtyard). The food reminded our morning routine but it gives the feel of "home". Our hosts were very friendly to make us more comfortable. It was my first visit to Goa so there were number of places in the list. But this home- stay is tucked in a village which is far from the places in my list(Beaches, Old Goa, Born Jesus Basilica). It would be better if you come by your own vehicle. Our hosts has abundant knowledge about the places to see, shop and enjoy the authentic Goan food. We hired their bike one day and enjoyed the monsoon rain completely(we were halted in almost 10-12 places to proceed our journey to Born Jesus basilica and it was quite a story to describe the experiences).Next day, we opted to hire taxi to move around. Our chauffeur was an excellent guide and made the day very memorable. A quite , fresh home-stay and lovely hosts gave us a unique experience.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Arco Iris means “Rainbow” in Portuguese, and was built on a sprawling, 1.5 acre terraced property which overlooks a seasonal lake. This supplements the water requirements of the surrounding paddy fields. The proximity to the lake and the Zuari, the abundant greenery in and around the property, ensure a picturesque Goan setting throughout the year. The house itself is styled along colonial Portuguese lines with a high plinth, imposing columns, high ceilings and offers excellent natural ventilation throughout the year. It has been restored, true to its heritage and without compromising the modern day amenities that have come to be associated with the changes in lifestyle since the early 19th century.During the restoration process, all efforts were made to preserve the original materials which had originally gone into the construction of the house by using them, at times, for alternate purposes. The end result is a house which reflects a judicious and tasteful blend of the modern and the traditional. With a built up area of around 7,000 sq feet, the house comprises an “entrada” (foyer), “sala” (living room), dining room, four guest bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a fully equipped modern kitchen. Three of the bedrooms open onto private balconies. It also has a “balcao” (balcony) in front and a courtyard at the rear. The “balcao”, is the most social part of the house where any daily activity, be it catching up with neighbours, reading morning newspapers, eating , or just plain lazing can be enjoyed. The “sala” or the high ceilinged living room is reserved for formally receiving and entertaining visitors. The dining room is dominated by the dining table which can comfortably seat 8. All bedrooms have been suitably modified to accommodate attached bathrooms with modern amenities. The bedroom colours have been chosen keeping in mind the colours of the rainbow. There is plenty of space to read in the lounges, the dining room, or outdoors in the verandah. ... more   less
