Arco Iris is run by an enthusiastic couple who want to give the best old world goan Portuguese experience in Courtorim, Goa. Courtorim is a quaint village with two fresh water lakes surrounded by patches of paddy fields. Arco Iris is on the bank of one of these lovely lakes. The location was idyllic and peaceful, the hospitality was unsurpassed. The rooms were tastefully decorated and one can see that no expense has been spared to get the best available material/ artifacts to provide the authentic ambiance. The property is close to a busy beach (Colva - 12 km away) where one can get to do the water sports like para sailing, speed boating etc; many smaller beaches that are adjoining Colva can provide a more relaxing experience. But Arco provides the counter view that Goa's beauty is not just its beaches.. its the people, architecture and the "art of the slow". A highly recommended place for families with children (and pets too)

Room Tip: Just talk to Beni the gracious host who runs Arco!

Hosts Bennita and Ghanesh own a beautifully restored Portuguese colonial villa called Arco Iris. Soon after we arrived their young daughters took us on a sunset walk around their rural village. By the time we had eaten a fabulous home cooked dinner with the rest of the family in their elegant dining room all memories of the English winter we had left behind had evaporated. Staying down here in South Goa is a million times better than up on the tourist crowded beaches of the north. The beaches near here are much better and the local area utterly charming as are the hosts, and the food is sensational. Only thing that could make it better would be a small pool to relax around in the heat of the day.

Situated amidst a peaceful and scenic landscape, Arco Iris is a charming home heritage in a tastefully restaured portuguese bungalow. Each room is different and beautifully decorated. A beautiful livingroom where we met in the evenings also contributed to the homely atmosphere. The owners, Benita and Ganesh, are very friendly and helpful, giving advice and providing maps and leaflets for the places to visit around. And their lovely daughters, Trusha and Trikaya, also have already this sense of hospitality and enjoy showing guests the neighborood. So if you wish to visit historical places, and relax in a quiet atmosphere, this is the place to choose.

Arco really is one of the most beautiful, tranquil and sceni places one can stay in. And the hosts, Beni and Ganesh, truly do make your stay a memorable one. But beyond the usual amenities of telling you where to go and arranging the transportation, they are up for any challenge their guests seem to post to them. I got into an accident while there and they came to pick me up, took me to the doctor and got me the medicines prescribed - I am not sure any hotel would have given me the same type of attention or help. And added benefit is that their kids are great explorers who would be more than happy to take you on one of their jaunts around the place.

Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to get away from the noise and clutter of city life.

Arco Iris was a great place to stay in Goa. With the Western Ghats in the background, this was a very different setting to the beaches that Goa are so renowned for. The service was excellent and our hosts were very friendly and made us feel right at home. For people looking for some peace and quiet this is a very good place to select.

If you are looking for a place which is beautiful and quite, but still near to all "happening" beaches of GOA than Arco Iris is the place.

Located in a small village it gives you a chance to experience real Goan culture and walk around country site. Living in a well restored Portuguese Bungalow makes the stay memorable.
The guidance given by the hosts in exploring some unexplored parts of Goa is commendable. We were quite thrilled to explore South Goa on bike. The scenery there was awesome.
Above all its a place for a quiet and romantic holiday.

Above all it was an experience to remember.

This is the perfect place for a retreat or to use as a base to see the historically interesting parts of Goa. It was a experience to stay in this beautiful house with the gracious family. I have recommended the place to many people already. I can't wait to go back there someday.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Arco Iris means “Rainbow” in Portuguese, and was built on a sprawling, 1.5 acre terraced property which overlooks a seasonal lake. This supplements the water requirements of the surrounding paddy fields. The proximity to the lake and the Zuari, the abundant greenery in and around the property, ensure a picturesque Goan setting throughout the year. The house itself is styled along colonial Portuguese lines with a high plinth, imposing columns, high ceilings and offers excellent natural ventilation throughout the year. It has been restored, true to its heritage and without compromising the modern day amenities that have come to be associated with the changes in lifestyle since the early 19th century.During the restoration process, all efforts were made to preserve the original materials which had originally gone into the construction of the house by using them, at times, for alternate purposes. The end result is a house which reflects a judicious and tasteful blend of the modern and the traditional. With a built up area of around 7,000 sq feet, the house comprises an “entrada” (foyer), “sala” (living room), dining room, four guest bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a fully equipped modern kitchen. Three of the bedrooms open onto private balconies. It also has a “balcao” (balcony) in front and a courtyard at the rear. The “balcao”, is the most social part of the house where any daily activity, be it catching up with neighbours, reading morning newspapers, eating , or just plain lazing can be enjoyed. The “sala” or the high ceilinged living room is reserved for formally receiving and entertaining visitors. The dining room is dominated by the dining table which can comfortably seat 8. All bedrooms have been suitably modified to accommodate attached bathrooms with modern amenities. The bedroom colours have been chosen keeping in mind the colours of the rainbow. There is plenty of space to read in the lounges, the dining room, or outdoors in the verandah. ... more   less
