RIta and ROdrigo, the owner are very friendly people. They are doing a totally home made breakfast, DELICIOUS! They are full of help and information, because they really love their island and love to welcome guests.
The location is great, 5 min walk from the noise of the main street. Monkeys which come to say hello during breakfast cannot be wrong!
The room was nice, clean, with everything you need.
THis is the best place to stay in the island for sure.

Firstly Rodrigo and Rita are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet - they really made us feel at home from the moment they came out together to meet us at the gate - they chat to you over breakfast like you are family friends and are full of useful information and tips about the island and what the options are for beaches, hikes etc.
The pousada itself is in a peaceful setting with a patch of the forest for a garden where you can sit in a hammock, listen to the river (or howler monkeys!) and watch the hummingbirds or marmosets which come to visit. The room was very comfortable with a fan and fridge to help with the sometimes humid climate. Breakfast is excellent (great cakes guys!). Location is towards the back of the town (hence the forest) but it is only 5 minutes to the restaurants / 7 minutes to the beach and pier. HIGHLY recommended!

Room Tip: It was nice facing the garden at the back where you could hear the river and spot wildlife.

Rita and Rodrigo are great hosts. So friendly, kind and warm and always on hand to give tips and advice, but with a lightness of touch that I felt looked after, but never intruded upon. I really felt at home at Ouro Verde. The rooms are clean and cosy and the whole pousada is the kind of place I was happy just to relax at. It's well located, just a few minutes from the main town, but tucked away in the forest enough to be much quieter than the main drag. The walk there from down was like a little adventure every night: through gradually-narrowing vibrant streets, over the little bridge that crosses the river and into the jungle where there pousada is located. And the breakfasts are lovely. The freshly made bread and Rita's cakes are worth the stay alone.

Booked this place based on reviews here and on other sites. As a group of four we were looking for an ensuite quad room at a reasonable rate in a nice pousada and we just really liked the look and sound of Ouro Verde, we weren't disappointed.

I've marked the room as 'average' based on the fact that it really wasn't any more than that. It was a decent quad room but not very big - the set up with a double bed and then a bunk was more suited to a family than 4 adults sharing but it was adequate. The bathroom was also small but perfectly adequate with toilet, sink and shower. The shower cubicle was a generous size and the shower itself was great if a little hit and miss with hot water - although to be honest with the temperatures in the 40's most days a cold shower was mostly just a treat!

The service was, at all times nothing less than perfect. Rod and Rita are excellent hosts and seem to take a genuine delight in making everyone feel welcome to their home. On arrival they were practically waiting at the gate to welcome us and check us in. They provided advice and information about places to visit on the island and how best to get around and can book trips for you as well.

Breakfast is AMAZING!!!!! Everyday there is homemade bread, cake and juice. There is also a selection of fresh fruit, pancakes, cheese and ham not to mention the best coffee I have ever drunk in my life but hey this is Brazil right!

Rod was highly entertained by the reaction of guests to the breakfast cakes which Rita makes fresh everyday and was laughing as he told us how many people mention the cake in their reviews ...... what can I say, it's really good cake! The best was a lime drizzle cake we had one day which was so good my friend ate three pieces and then couldn't move for an hour afterwards. Mmmmmm, cake for breakfast just one more thing to make it worth the trip to Ouro Verde. Breakfast is served on a decked area to the side of the property so every breakfast feels like a picnic in the jungle.

Ok, enough with the cake, how about the setting. Its just beautiful. Nestled in amongst the trees once you walk in through the gate you could be a hundred miles from civilisation. There is a stream that runs alongside the property and there is a little waterfall which runs into a still pool, the perfect place to sit and cool off in the heat.

The boring - sorry I meant practical stuff ..... It is a bit of a trek up from the village. 'A bit of a trek' is very subjective so I'll try to quantify that. Walking up from the village when you arrive with your luggage (and its 45 degree heat and humid as hell) is not fun times. The pathway up is mostly concrete, smooth in places and cracked in others, it is mostly a steady gradient but with some short steeper stretches. If you have mobility issues or a serious heart condition then this probably isn't the place for you, however, having said that you don't need to be a hiker to make it up the hill to the best Pousada on the island. Take me, a bit overweight, a smoker, not fit or particularly active .... and I made it. A few reviews we read before we booked almost put us off because we thought it was going to be much more of a trek than it actually was. Going up with massive bags wasn't fun but the rest of the time it was just a pleasant (if slightly sweaty) 10 minute walk. You might want a small torch for walking back up in the dark, parts are lit but bits of it are quite dark.

Getting to the island - there are a few options depending on where you come from, we got a Greentoad bus and boat package which I wouldn't recommend - once you have booked Rod will email you the best way to get there and I recommend you take his advice, it would have been better for us if we had.

It's hot, it was particularly hot when we stayed even by local standards and its humid so expect everything to be a bit damp and being the type of accommodation that this is there is no aircon although I would be surprised if you find any accommodation on the island with aircon.

My stay here was 4 days out of a 3.5 week trip to Brazil and Argentina and it was, out of the 6 places we stayed, by far my favourite place out of the whole trip. I would definitely stay here again and I would recommend it to friends and anyone else who will listen to me.

Apologies to Rod and Rita for the delay in posting this review, it is in no way a reflection on how much I enjoyed my stay.

We booked pousada ouro verde because of the wonderful reviews on trip advisor and our stay certainly lived up to expectations. The pousada is set back into the rainforest but an easy walk to the centre of the little town. Rita and rodriguo were fantastic hosts, made us feel extremely welcome and gave us amazing tips about what to see and do on the island, as well as where to eat some wonderful local dish of the day.

The rooms were basic and very clean. Amazing value for money. Rita and rodriguo clearly take pride in their pousada. My only more negative comment would be that they are slightly damp but as it is a tropical island covered in rainforest this would be the case anywhere.

Breakfast was absolutely delicious - homemade and served on the outdoor terrace with star monkeys coming to say hello. Definitely recommend this pousada.

If you're looking for a quiet small hostel in the middle of the jungle with an amazing breakfast you're at the right place. The hosts are very helpful and will answer any question or doubt you might have. The best thing was definitely the quiet terrace where you will enjoy a great breakfast and where you can observe little monkeys and even feed them if they are hungry.
