This beautiful cottage is situated approximately 1.5 miles from the centre of St Austell, on the road out towards Mevagissey. Just off the main road, in an elevated position means the views from the lounge and kitchen across the valley and woodland are stunning. The bedrooms, one double and one twin, were beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with a vast array of cooking pans and utensils, a good cooker, microwave, 4-slice toaster and even a dishwasher! The fridge had an ice box but if you wanted to use a freezer or washing machine (which we didn't), there was an option provided by the owner.
The only thing I should mention, there are a lot of steps to climb to get to the front door.
I would recommend Holly Bank wholeheartedly to anyone wanting to stay in this beautiful part of Cornwall. Less than 5 minutes down the road is the pretty village of Pentewan, with it's gorgeous beach and a lovely pub. Across the road the White River runs down to Pentewan and you can walk along the river bank if you enjoy a good walk. And Mevagissey is always a must if you like a good fish and chip supper. As a base it is a pretty good location as Charlestown (Poldark) and the Eden Project are close by; Wheal Martyn is an interesting visit and if you want to venture further out we visited Port Isaac (Doc Martin) and it took roughly 45 minutes to drive to.
We would love to return to Holly Bank again.
The house is set in lovely gardens and has great views. Everywhere was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Our hosts were most welcoming and helpful. Although the house is approached by a very steep driveway and steps up to the front door (this was mentioned in the booking information) we managed fine and the location was ideal for us and our holiday plans. Thank you for being great hosts :)
