We booked our stay at Marley Beach Bungalows for a few reasons, the price was reasonable for Raja Ampat at 350,000 Rp per person for a fan room which included all meals and an en suite bathroom.
We had some difficulty arranging the booking via email at first and after various phone calls and email requests we managed to get a confirmation a day before we were scheduled to fly out.
We asked to be picked up from the boat dock upon our arrival however no one was there to receive us. After several phone calls and an hour and a half later a car came to pick us up, the cost was 200,000 Rp. (the actual price is usually about 100,000 Rp)
The property at Marley's is beautiful with a nice dock, however the beach is not really a beach only water access. If you are expecting a paradise beach you will not find it here.
The bungalows were built recently but are poorly designed and not well maintained. There are several small hornet nests on the ceiling of the bathroom and bedroom, but seemed harmless for now.
There were no mosquito nets, or proper bed sheets, a large towel was used as a blanket. The bungalows have not been cleaned for a very long time. Our "en suite bathroom" was very dirty with sand on the floor, a plugged drain and dirty water in the mandy splash basin which happened to have little creatures swimming in it.
The toilet was on a bucket flush system. The cold bucket baths wouldn't be so bad if the bathroom was actually clean.
Our meals were ok, the breakfast was our leftover dinner. The staff was friendly however only one could speak some english.
The staff concentrated on raking and sweeping the outdoor space and didn't really think about cleaning the bungalows themselves.
Our main point of contact was the manager who lived in the nearby town, who was very helpful. There was nobody on site that could help us arrange dives or activities. After spending two nights at Marley's we decided to relocated to a guesthouse in town. We felt the conditions were subpar in our opinion and arranging dives was too difficult with no one around to help us on site. During our stay we were the only guests.
I believe that this place has potential however it requires staff on site who are dedicated to making it a success. Just a few improvements, such as cleaning up the bathrooms, a mosquito net and better bedsheets would make a huge difference.
We wouldn't recommend this place at the moment.
