Staff very welcoming. Food was nice. A nice place considering its in Ware. Good selection of Ales and Food. It was quiet considering it was a Friday lunchtime in the Summer holidays, maybe because of the Olympics. I will return again once school holidays are over.

Just visited The Tap Bar for lunch and what a disaster. Our order was pretty basic (chicken salad baguette with onion, chicken stripper wrap, side of chips, a coke and a coffee) Our food arrived before we got our drinks and the food that did arrive was wrong - received a sausage baguette and some chicken strippers without a wrap, so we sent it back. We then had to wait for more drinks to arrive as the original coffee had gone cold. The 2nd time the food arrived the chicken salad baguette was still wrong - just chicken and onion in a baguette!!! But we had lost the will to live by this stage and decided to just eat it. We were charged FULL price for our lunch, with only a half hearted apology from the manager - who happened to be eating her lunch whilst processing the bill. We would normally go to The Vine for lunch, but thought it would be nice to go somewhere else for a change - won't be making that mistake again.

We stayed at the Tap Bar for one night when we were attending a wedding party at the adjoining Priory.

There is adequate parking next door (Pay and Display) which is free after 6:30PM and on Sunday.

The welcome was very warm and we were shown to our room when we were ready (we had to be dragged away from the scrummy cakes on sale)

The room was adequate: clean, enough space and well equipped. I would describe the decor as a bit jaded and in need of a bit of a brush up, but all in all the room was good value.
One aspect that seems to be rare is that it had thick curtains. So many hotel rooms seem to have transparent curtains these days!

For me, the bed was too soft, but my wife thought it was fine. One other point: the lighting was too subdued for my wife to do her makeup. Luckily it was still light outside when we were getting ready.

Though not included in the price, the Tap Bar serves a very good breakfast and excellent coffee.

We would definitely choose the Tap Bar if we visited again.

This is a place we go for a girls lunch. Service is always good and I like to sit in the covered courtyard. Arrived for lunch at 1pm the other day and it was empty, seemed strange for a lunchtime.

If the management read these reviews please get the jet washer out and clean the courtyard area floor, it is desperate for it. In the evenings this obviously cant be seen but during the day it is yucky.

I visited the bar with friends on several occasions in November, December and January for lunch and the experience ranged from great to poor. The food is moderately good and reasonably priced. We had sat in the front bar area with well-behaved children on two occasions but the third time were told children were not allowed and were packed off to the rear of the building with the other 2nd class citizens (parents). The inconsistency is what I object to. Service in the rear area was poor - presumably because they can't see you. Then there was a bit of a scene regarding free coffee refills - the menu says free refills (plural) but the waitress tried to say it was one only and charged for extra coffees on the bill. We queried it and it was corrected but in a rather ungracious way that made us feel like staying away in future - and we have.

Before I start I think It's important to point out that The Tap bar is NOT A BED AND BREAKFAST OR A GUEST HOUSE. It would be wrong to review it as anything more than a pub with accommodation.
My Colleague and I booked a twin room at the Tap Bar as we were working at Glaxo Smith Klein. The Tap bar is within walking distance so we were swayed heavily by this. In fact the Tap Bar is in an excellent location, slap bang in the middle of Ware. The building is grade two listed, a 14th century coach house and if you look closely, some of the original features are still there to be seen, especially in the Wagonway in the courtyard. The history of the place is amazing.
Upon our arrival the Bar staff were polite and friendly. The stairway up to the room was a little musty and in desperate need of a lick of fresh paint. Silly little things that cost nothing but improve a first impression.
We were given a family room and I was pleasantly suprised when I opened the door. The room was very spacious with a double and a single bed, slimline television on the wall, full size wardrobe, a fireplace (maybe or maybe not original, I'm no expert) writing desk, two chairs and a table (and still room for a game of 5-a-side football), working Sash windows that open up to overlook the HIgh Street and church.
Fantastic.
It all goes a little bit downhill from here because the only word to describe the en suite bathroom is 'unclean'. It became clear as the week went on that the only part of the bathroom that got cleaned was the toilet and the sink, but what about the shower? the floor? the tiles? Luckily for us, the job at GSK was very dirty indeed and we were able to use the shower facilities at work rather than shower at the Tap Bar.
It's a real shame about the cleanliness because everything else is in place to make the accomodation side to the Tap Bar business a real success, the bar itself is quite a popular place to be and there is a LOT of competition in Ware, there's over 20 pubs in the local vacinity and some lovely restaurants including a Greek taverna, Indian, chinese, Italian, Turkish, all tastes catered for. The Punch House is great for good quality pub grub but beware, If you're from anywhere north of Watford, prepare for a shock when you order a pint in any of the local pubs, two pints of Becks came to £7.60 in one pub, i nearly passed out...
To sum up, the Tap Bar really is a tale of 'Beauty and the Beast'. The potential is phenomenal but sadly lacks a little bit of pride and attention.
p.s, the Tap Bar is alledgely haunted by a14th century Abbot who was murdered there. If you see him, ask him to clean the bathroom while he's there.

The room was fine on the surface, however the cleanliness of the room was a little below average. It would be helpful if all the rooms were numbered. I observed that there were only 2 numbered rooms. The manager should learn to deal better with customers. Her attitude was seriously lacking and unprofessional. Customer complaints can be frustrating but are usually for the management to look at how things can be improved and not a personal attack. Walking off on a customer is a sure sign of an attitude problem.

Room Tip: Always check that your room has all amenities before getting unpacked!
