“Nice resort for surfers”
Reviewed August 29, 2009

I stayed here for two weeks during august 09. I used to take a boat charter to the same location, most asked me how I liked the resort compared to the boat. I will say both have good and bad......
The resort is very comfortable and generally quiet. Rooms are nice and airy and use the natural trade winds for ventalation. (inside tip open the back gate of the bathroom area and the breeze comes right in) THe room has two ceiling fans and a floor fan which aided in the airy feeling. I had a very comfy king sized bed wich was remade daily and the room serviced daily. Nice black out curtains for the after surf naps.
Rooms are very nice for a surf hang out.
Food was quite good and they really had a varied menu, I dont think they had the same salad once and they served two a day. Staff is very friendly and cater to you needs.
THE SURF: some small days, some big days, some inbetween days and quite crowded one of the upcoming swell days. Don't expect to surf here by yourself on the premium days........but I did surf with very few people on 'off hours' tides.
the is no instant " i want to surf now!" at the resort, there is a 10 15 minute walk down the beach to the boat, the boat comes in, navigates the ropes, low tide, anchors, another 10 minutes and then finally out to the surf......want to surf a 8? leave at 7:30. boat stays out with you until you want to come in. ( not really a complaint just a reality)
on the charter you could be in the water in 5 minutes and you sat in the channel and could monitor conditions at all times and pick optimal moments to surf.
the left is always bigger than you think if you are checking from shore.
all in all the resort is quite organized, offers ping pong and pool table, volley ball and a golf pitch hole. Massage is great with either man or alex. and resonably priced.
you pay for drinks of any sort other than cold water.
The manager does a great job of keeping it all going and attends to requests very nicely.
All in all Nemberala Beach Resort is a very nice surfer hangout......

I have been to this place three seasons in a row and it has never been flat. Every time I went I surfed insane waves and quite frankly wished it had been smaller sometimes. The rooms are big, airy, and really comfortable with a king size mattress and crisp clean sheets. The boat service is awesome since it is a long walk on sharp reef or a long paddle at high tide if you do not have a boat. I would recommend this resort to anyone who can afford the luxury. Its well worth it.

It is a long journey to NBR requiring an 1.5 hour flight from Bali, an overnight in Kupang(very unpleasant place), a 2+hour ferry ride and a 1 hour overland bouncy bus ride. Only the most avid of surfers should consiter making this trip.

* Surfers be advised this area of Indonesia is prone to long flat spells and is always significantly smaller than Bali.

NBR is simple and astheically pleasing, however the perday cost of the resort is a bit much for the current level of service.

The resort has a pool, beautiful beach front bar, gameroom and the hotel offers massage. The food is basic and really needs to be improved ASAP. There are very few eating options in the surrounding village (& you have paid for food as part of pgk) so the poor food at the resort is a real downside to what has the potental of being a great resort.

The rooms are nicely designed but unfortunately not very private. Rooms are set up as duplexes so you share a common wall and noise can be an issue. The bathrooms are open air (& share a wall with neighbor) and do not have hot water.
The rooms do not have A/C.

Malaria is a problem here, take precautions.

NBR can be a great vacation, so long as you are a patient surfer who is not picky about cuisine. The surfing in the area has the potential to be very, very fun. This is the nicest place by far in the area and can be a comfortable place to get away from it all.

First let me say thank you for the constructive criticism that was posted by one of our sept. guests. As a small boutique resort that is only 2 years in existence, we are constantly trying to improve and better serve our guests. When we first started the hotel we made a commitment to our local village to only hire local villagers. So while it would have been easy for us to bring in seasoned pros from Bali or Jakarta, we are taking our lumps to better our surrounding community. I feel our food and customer service improve tremendously from year to year, but we will take this review into account to help the Nemberala Beach Resort be the best boutique resort in Indonesia.
