“Just for a meal”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

We were staying in Zaghra but travelling around the island and had planned looking at the San Andrea for a stay at Xmas 2014 so called in for a meal a few times during our stay in December 2013.

Well. What can I say. The first time we had lunch, just one course but it was amazing. We both had pasta dishes, one lasagne and one ravioli. Absolutely the best pasta outside of Italy we have ever tasted. We saw other meals being brought out and the presentation, service .......... everything was perfect.

We called on several other occasions during our two weeks and the standard was exactly the same and on the Sunday we were absolutely gob smacked at the queue which must have been continuous for about four hours. Most people were locals but some tourists. That is a clear indication and comment on how good the restaurant at this hotel actually is.

Ooooh and not to forget THAT view..............

If you are anywhere near Xlendi you HAVE to have a meal here.

We spent another Christmas at San Andrea Hotel. The family that own and run this hotel have certainly got it covered...
Its a clean, friendly environment with plenty to offer couples, singles, business and families. Nothing its too much trouble at San Andrea. Christmas festivities are also the best with gala dinners being organised and these are very reasonable in price.
The hotel has everything you need to complete any kind of holiday, free wifi, car hire, day trips, money exchange everything has been thought about to make your holiday easy and hassle free. The hotel restaurant Zafiro is one of the best on Gozo, every thing is fresh and tasty and there are good vegetarian options. I would suggest a booking as it can be popular with tourist and local people. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.......its is consistently brilliant!

Room Tip: Sea view, balcony.

Xlendi is my favourite place to stay, and i have been there 4 times in the last 12 months, so i was looking forward to my pre xmas break. Not stayed here before so even more excited. Reception very small, and not at all private, which was not helped by very rude receptionist. Had booked a sea view room. Room was tiny but clean. Never stayed in such a small room. No tea and coffee!!! This was an extra at 3 euros!! No seperate bar, drinks outside, cool at xmas time. Dinner at night time was good, except for the kids allowed to run wild, no chance of the romantic evening i had hoped for. Lots of small things made this stay very disappointing, and not at a cheap price either, 100euros for the night.

Room Tip: look at room before accepting it.

Three of us stayed a week over Christmas 2013 occupying two bedrooms; one with a sea view and one looking across the street to the apartments opposite. First advice: book a bedroom with the tremendous sea view. This view was beautiful on sunny days and spellbinding on stormy days. The bedrooms are small but well appointed and spotlessly clean. The residents' lounge and balcony on the fifth floor also offers an excellent sea view. Drinks or snacks can be ordered there by phoning to the bar. Internet (10 to 15 Mbps) comes from routers on every floor. If connection proves difficult, contact reception and ask for the router to be re-booted.

The most memorable part of our stay was the excellent service from all members of the staff. We arrived late at night and were guided to the dining room, leaving the registration formalities until after. It was obvious that great attention has been paid to training the waiting staff: tables were beautifully set; service was friendly and efficient; regular checks were made to ensure that we were happy with our food and service.

Breakfast is normally continental, including cold meats, cheeses, fried eggs and beautiful Maltese breads. Over the Christmas holiday, cooked breakfasts, normally extra, were served as part of the package. The set menu for half board evening meals included a satisfactory choice of starter courses and main courses with the option of switching to the extensive a la carte menu, paying the cost difference. Wines were available by the glass, half bottle or bottle. The local Maltese wines were excellent value. On Christmas Eve, our dinner was a full five course, three hour, Christmas feast.

Proprietor, Jason, showed a tremendous hands-on dedication to customer satisfaction. His success is borne out by the number of local dining clients and Maltese guests, as well as those from abroad.

Room Tip: Book a room with a sea view.

San Andrea Hotel is a 3* structure beautifully positioned in Xlendi Bay - you could also get a room with a view... The hotel is nice and tidy, but spaces are a bit tight and my bathroom did not have a window, or a fan...
Restaurant is OK.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony in front of the bay (ending 6 or 7)!

My family and I enjoy every minute staying at this welcoming hotel. The rooms are in excellent condition and very well kept. They are also a very good size for a family, (parents and two children). The food is delicious and sure you will have a great breakfast. We look forward for another stay. Comfortable, genuine food and great staff.

Room Tip: Excellent for parents with children.
