“Total relaxation with service second to none”
Reviewed May 26, 2011

Our fifth stay at Ta' Cenc. Although the hotel is going through some refurbishment it is totally unobtrusive and hasn't affected the level of comfort or service. ALL the hotel staff can only be described as wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and all our requests were dealt with efficiently and with a smile. Total relaxation was our aim this time and that is exactly what we achieved; if you are looking for bright lights and nightlife then Ta' Cenc is not the place to go. The restaurant has a very varied menu serving excellent dishes, cooked to perfection.
The "Wellness" Spa is worth a visit, an experience not to be missed.
Overall it is paradise on Gozo.

I stayed there 5 times since January 1996. 3 times with spouse resp. a few friends, zwice with groups - in May of 2010 with almost 50 in the group, in May of 2011 with 30 people. The first times we stayed between 2 and 5 nights each; the last two times 6 resp. 11 nights. The secluded location set in wonderful nature with views on the sea, on Malta and Comino is a 6 star value. The always, always friendly service is definitely 5 star! Come here to expect mediterannean hopsitality, local and international cuisine (we alway enjoy the wonderful breakfast buffet and the great dinners) in a setting which is authentic, real, inspiring. Also: the transport within Gozo and especially to and from Luqa airport and to and from la Valetta are great value, on time, friendly drivers. So, i and we will definitely come back again - especially seeing how each year more amenities, more "updates" and yet more improvements are made, without compromising the unique charm of Ta Cend. Thanks You Rose, David, Charlie and the owner, Mr. Borg! Wulfing von Rohr, Austria

Our 7 day stay at the Ta Cenc was a lovely and peaceful experience. The staff were all professional, friendly and very, very helpful. The food was excellent with a very wide choice at the buffet style breakfast bar of both English and Continental quisine. The weather however was not quite what we expected with temperatures around 17 / 20 degrees C and a bit breezy this meant that neither of the two outside pools were used BUT the heated indoor / outdoor pool of the "Wellness centre" was brilliant as was the jacusi and the steam room.
The site itself was generally well tended , particularly the front. There were however signs of some refurbishment / new build going on but it was low key and we never heard it or did it a cause us problem. The only niggle that we had was with the hotel mini bus, it was a bit basic and the seat belts would not go round the more portly figure but it was very useful for the 15 minute trip into Victoria as parking there is not very good.
The grounds of the Ta Cenc are extensive with walks to the spectacular Ta Cenc cliffs one way and paths the other way giving great views inland and to the sea.

The town of Sannat itself was a sleepy place with very few shops but had a beautiful church which we visited and joined in with the "Our Lady of Sorrows" procession.

The Ta Cenc is a good base for touring the island of Gozo if you hire a car and within easy reach of the ferry terminal.

Would we go back to the Ta Cenc ? Without a doubt YES we loved it!

Room Tip: Poolside rooms may get a bit noisy during the day

The hotel is stunning and blends incredibly well with its surroundings. Every member of staff is friendly, helpful and will go out of his/her way to make your stay more enjoyable. The location is ideal for those who enjoy peace & quiet, nature, walking and relaxing. The hotel spa is small but very peaceful with its indoor/outdoor heated pool in particular. The rooms were great (we stayed in refurbished rooms) and included lovely patios overlooking the pool. Every meal we had was delicious and the whole experience was pure bliss!

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

Last time we stayed in 2006 we swore never again due to the run down state of the hotel at the time. We were persuaded to re-visit the hotel by a friend who knows it well and we were pleased to find improvements. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished Junior Suite right by the pool and spa which was well equipped, roomy and with a very good quality bathroom.
Breakfast was considerably improved , the Orange juice was fresh (last time watered down squash) and we had very nice poached eggs to order. The range was still a little limited though. We only ate in the Hotel Once in the evening and would say that the offering was improved although not good value for money in relation the the local restaurants.
The lunches at the Terrace bar were very nice and have always been a feature of the Ta Cenc, salads pastas and Grills.
The service as ever at the Ta Cenc was friendly ,charming and unobtrusive.
There are still some areas that require improvement, in particular the gym is starting to look dated and the spa is getting shabby.
Overall We enjoyed our stay, and will visit again as we like the peace and quite of this Unique and very discreet hotel,. We hope that the management continue to make further improvements so that the hotel keeps up the standard that it needs to for the prices it charges

My husband and I spent a night at the Ta Cenc hotel after reading online reviews and after visiting the hotel's website. We were VERY disappointed!! The hotel website gives a very fifferent impression of the hotel. The only good thing about the hotel is the indoor/outdoor heated pool. We hardly enjoyed our stay and we were eager to go back home due to the following reasons:

When we arrived, the only available receptionist led us to our room and from there on, we were completely forgotten. The staff are nice, but jack of all trades, receptionists and barmen/waiters acting also as porters, wouldn't expect that in a 5 star hotel. The hotel is OVERPRICED. We normally visit another 5 star hotel in Gozo at the same price but there's a HUGE difference between them!!

We were assured that our room was a refurbished one. The room itself was quite ok, the outside door makes so much noise when opened and closed, that it definitely needs some oil! The bathroom was a different story. There was no hot water in the sink and a dated painting on the tiles confirms that the bathrooms are at least 20 yrs old.

At the SPA, we were told that we had to get slippers from the hotel reception!! How stupid... I ended up keeping my wet slippers for the length of my stay as I couldn't imagine going to reception in my bathrobe and wet slippers each time asking for my slippers to be changed!! When we asked at the SPA if we could have our bathrobes changed because they were wet, we were told that there weren't any available at the SPA and we would get new ones in our room in the morning, which we didn't. Our pool towels were changed reluctantly. When it was getting dark, most guests left the pool area but my husband and I decided to stay. The pool area was only partially lit. The spot we were in was left in the dark and when my husband asked them to light it, another area was lit so we had to change sunbeds. The indoor/outdoor pool WAS LEFT COMPLETELY IN THE DARK!!! We couldn' t believe it!!

As regards Breakfast, there is not much choice... an omelette/ egg must be ordered with the waiter and arrives around 10/15 mins later!!

We will NOT be going back unless some serious work is done on the hotel. We tried to make the best out of the situation but we were VERY DISAPPOINTED. We have gone to other 5 star hotels in Gozo and Malta and so far, this is the worst one. It is definitely not a 5 star hotel at present, maybe it was a few years ago. It must be rated again as this 5 star rating is misleading!!!

We reserved judgement from other reviews and we were delighted with what we found. We were pampered from the moment we checked in!! Our room had recently been refurbished and was extremely comfortable, it was very quiet just what we needed. The Restaurant facilities were very very good a new menu every evening with plenty of choice for all tastes, the chef is very talented and imaginative. Everyone on the staff were very helpful nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly be going back the whole ambience was just what we were looking for and we found it. The best thing about my stay was…
The Spa and heated pool especially this time of the year when its not warm enough for the outdoor pools
