“Great!”
Reviewed October 13, 2011

I spent two nights in early October 2011. Highly recommended. Really a very good hotel! My very large room was one of the less expensive and therefore it had not to be the best one, but it seemed to be a mini apartment with a lounge and sofas, very well furnished, cleanliness and new. The Staff is strongly helpfull and friendly: they gave me a lot of information I had still not requested.

Spent 2 nights in this hotel. Unfortunately our first day and night was to our disappointment ruined by loads of water seeping from under the tiles in the bathroom and faulty air condition in our room (actually the a/cs of the whole block weren't working) We spent the first night in terrible heat and awake! Our room was changed in the afternoon the following day upon our several complaints. However they downgraded us to an inferior room since none were available. This downgrade and our troubles were compensated with a bottle of wine and a complimentary dinner at the hotel restaurant. Despite this, nothing can compensate our bad experience for the first day and a half. I would not be returning to this hotel.

Grand Hotel’s Management and Staff value all our guest’s Comments.

Unfortunately unforeseen incidents tend to arise from time to time. Certain mechanical issues beyond our control sometimes occur. Our obligation in these circumstances is to deal with the problem as expeditiously as possible. On this particular occasion the air conditioning unit had become faulty during the night and once it was brought to our attention of course our main priority was to repair this as soon as possible. Since this A/C unit could not be repaired in time we offered another room of the same room category.

We have never provided any downgrades to any of our clients. The room type booked and paid for has always been provided. In this particular situation a superior sea view room was booked and provided on both occasions. These luxurious rooms offer breathtaking views of Mgarr Harbour, Comino and Gozo channel from their large private terraces or balconies. These rooms have their own lounge area and coffee/tea making facilities.

Once again, we would like to emphasize that our company appreciates and values all our guests’ comments whether these are positive or negative. This is our standard policy and this is how we run the hotel, and we would like to communicate these policies to other travelers who might be contemplating to visit this 4 star hotel in Gozo, Malta.

Our ultimate goal is to provide all our future guests with wonderful and memorable experience here in Gozo.

The Grand Hotel literally one minute from the harbour at Mgarr overlooking the marina, and Comino. Staff are very friendly, attentive and always available. Very clean, and always a good choice of food (different menus available and separate Thai restaurant). Weather dependent food served on the Terrace. The gym is small and could be better maintained, but overall as a solo traveller I found this hotel excellent and I always felt comfortable there. I would say in high season when it's full the pool area will not be ideal. Regular Arriva bus service throughout the island. There is a great bar about one minute from the hotel down toward the marina area called Horatio's. It's frequented by the locals and if you want to get to know Gozo and the people there then this is an excellent bar to feel welcomed and included. It is so good because it isn't overrun by tourists. It is generally open from about 8.30 and will get busier around 1030-11ish once everyone finishes work. A fantastic little place!

The hotel can arrange for transport around 30euros from the airport but you could get there easily either via airport bus (about one hour 15mins).

The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, with a nice selection of fresh hot and cold buffet items.

Unfortunately we had a non-sea view room, which basically means an internal room with no external windows. This meant that our room was very dark, even in the day time, and had no fresh air. We wished we had asked to swap rooms whilst we were there. We wouldn’t return to this hotel unless we had an external room.

The purpose of our stay was for the scuba diving, which was excellent (we didn’t dive with the hotel but booked independently) . Gozo is a very pleasant, quiet island so would probably not be enough to entertain us for a whole week without the scuba diving. The buses are easy and cheep to use but often run earlier than scheduled so always arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes before, just to be sure!

Room Tip: Ask/pay for a sea view, the internal rooms are dark day and night!

We stayed for five nights in September. We enjoyed the Grand - good location, good food with south facing views of the harbour, Camino and Malta. We had one of the older rooms with a terrace that we liked as we could sunbath on the terrace in private. We had a few problems initially but these were quickly sorted out by the general manager and George, our Malta Direct rep. We booked our holiday through Malta Direct and recommend them as we do the Sunflower Guide for walking and touring.

We used the Green & White hop on / off bus tour to get a feel for Gozo and thereafter local buses. Arriva have recently taken over the buses on Malta and Gozo. They service on Gozo is good but not on Malta.

We found Gozo interesting and friendly. We particularly liked the Citadel, Xlendi and walking along the coast. However, the island looks depopulated with many unoccupied, unsold and derelict properties

Room Tip: South facing rooms have the views. Terrace is worth the extra as it is large enough to lie out on.

We stayed only for one night. We had forgotten to book a cot. We checked in late at note. Housekeeping was very helpful and they still found us a cot fast. Reception staff very nice.

Breakfast experience and cleanliness was average. waiters could hv been more friendly.

Parking a bit crammed..hotel could do with a refurbishment

All in all, we enjoyed our stay as despite shortfalls, the staff did make it quite special.

Lovely staff , loveley view , big nice and clean room ,but the mattress in the bed was much too hard. Lovely local people , and good food.
Went on a boattrip which was super , and the hop on/hop off bustrip was great.
