Nice ambience direct on Harbour. Some Brit Ex pats go here and like to show off , ask for a table away from them.

Thank Stuart G

It's very rare for everything to come together to perfection in the resturaunt business, but sometimes, literally everything is way off the mark. That's the best way to describe Porto Vecchio. Service was unattentive. Presentation was nonexistent. Quality of food showed the chef to be an amateur.

Priced the way they are, one expects better... much much better... even a local like me who knows what usually passes for quality dining around here. But this place set new lows. "Pan seared duck breast" does NOT mean cooked through to being well well well done. Carpaccio is likewise NOT cooked with fire. And fish should NOT be garnished with an insect (kid you not).

Skip this place and you won't miss a thing...

I can't count the number of times we've eaten at Porto Vecchio in the past 3 years. At a guess it's an average 2+ times a month. In short, it just gets better & better. The Mgarr construction works were a test of endurance for even the most ardent fans of the place, yet the faithful followers, like ourselves, continued to patronize the one restaurant in Mgarr that apparently saw the makeover as an opportunity to surpass previous expectations & rise above the rest. Chef Matthew Sammut is constantly reinventing the ordinary & turning simple dishes into wonderful surprises. An example is a recent amuse bouche we were served, which consisted of a simple vegetarian ravioli. My husband adored it. Not bad for a canvivore & carb resistor! As for the staff, I challenge the experienced diner to look around & ask yourself: how many other successful restaurants in Gozo retain their waiters & waitresses year after year, after year? That's precisely what makes Porto Vecchio a cut above the rest, better than good & a solid gold, consistent place to entertain visitors to the island. Not many restaurants can keep them coming back for more, the way Porto Vecchio does. That's why we are back there again tonight for my husbands last supper before he leaves Gozo for New York - he's requested a main course of the vegetarian ravioli dish. We don't think, we KNOW Porto Vecchio is that good!

Cannot wait to return to this restaurant. Best bruschetta I have tasted in a long time. Main courses: my husband had mixed seafood platter and I had a mixed seafood pasta. Both fresh as the seas around Gozo. Deserts were cassatella, light yet full-flavoured and a creamy lemon creme catalana with glazed sugar [very nutty] on top but not over-hard as sometimes is the case. They both tasted home-made and devine. This restaurant is in the yacht marina in Mgarr harbour and the views are gorgeous. We ate on the patio under enormous umbrellas, which were needed, as it was a scorching day at the end of August. They also provided 4/5 large fans which kept us at a comfortable temperature. Jenny was the waitress, a charming and efficient Gozitan young lady. The indoors of this restaurant seems cosy enough for off-season but eating on the patio with the views is a really big draw. The prices are very reasonable as is the wine.
