Stayed here from 6/8 for a week, what a lovely hotel, the accommadation we had was spacious and clean, we over looked the upper pool.We stayed B&B, the choice of breakfast was great and plentiful. The staff were incredibly friendly, very helpful and knowledgeable. We would recommend the hotel to our friends. The only problem we had was with Cosmos, the rep was of no use, she failed to supply us with info we had to chase her up, we were charged for a room that slept 3, but we only had 2 single beds (but the room was great), the transfer on our arrival was very hard to find, we had to find them and they then took us to and left us at the wrong hotel we did try to tell the driver but he did not listen, it took us longer to get from Valletta Airport to our hotel than it took to fly from Bristol to Malta to summarize we would love to stay at this hotel again but would never use COSMOS!!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking upper pool

Loved every aspect of our holiday. Welcomed to the hotel by Mandy who couldn't have been more helpful. We needed two rooms as we are a family of five and as she checked our reservation noticed how far apart the rooms were, one phone call to Sharon, the equally helpful manageress and another room was instantly found for us.
On checking the room one air con wasn't working so back to Mandy and within fifteen minutes a fan delivered to the room. By the time we returned to our room the next day the air con was fixed!
Highly recommend full board for families like ours, two eight year olds and one thirteen as we have found in the past that the majority of spending money goes on food.
Breakfast served till a very reasonable ten o'clock.
Our rooms were cleaned and towels changed whenever we left the tag on the door or our room no matter how late we left it.
The pool is fine if not a little small but rarely overcrowded and the Cave bar is a great little refuge from the blazing sun, The excellent Malta buses stop at the end of the street and at seven euros for a family day ticket you can get anywhere on the island or to the ferries for Gozo and Comino, no need for spending on excursions.

Room Tip: No problems with room 500, sea view, nice view of cathedral and well equipped for self catering.

Good place, near to the bay and buses stop. The hotel is beautiful, good breakfast.
in my opinion the rooms aren't so clean and comfortable for a 4stars hotel.
The receptionists are very kind, especially a boy called Joseph. He's very professional and help us in every way, with informations, with the language and his smile.

We stayed for 12 nights this August (2013). The Maltese people are very welcoming and friendly. The hotel was clean and rooms where attended to daily. We stayed self catering but used the breakfast buffet at a reasonable rate as well as the Pizzeria for take aways, all the food was very good and fresh. The main pool was often busier with teenagers and families so we did not use this area but over looked it from our sea-view balcony room. The smaller inner pool was quieter and more suited to families with younger children, it was also shallower! Our only criticism of this pool was the water clarity that was poor and got worse as our stay progressed. The room was well equipped for self catering, clean and comfortable with the exception of the air-con that was not very efficient and quite noisy, however portable fans where available on request. All very good on the whole though and a nice under-developed quieter part of the island, with quick easy access to a very nice local beach, I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and am sure you will enjoy a stay there.

Room Tip: Get a sea view as some of the rooms over looked a walk way or internal pool area.

On arrival the air conditioning was not working. Reported to reception, who inform us that they had had a problem with the air con in our room (room 8) prior to our arrival. Needless to say the air con did not work properly during the duration of our stay (10 nights). Added to this the fridge did not work correctly and was always producing water, meaning anything put in to the fridge came out soaking wet and it was never truly cold and milk would go off very quickly. Dispite numerous visits from maintenance and promises by the reception staff and the hotel manager that the fridge would be replaced, it never was! Not very satisfactory when you are self catering.
The bathroom floor was always wet when you had a shower and the shower tap is plumbed the wrong way round, i.e. hot was actually cold and vice versa.
There is a safe in the room, but it costs 20 Euros to use, with a 10 Euro refundable deposit.
The room is clean and the cleaning staff are excellent.
Pools:
The pools are small for the size of the hotel and one of the pools is opened to local residents two days a week. There is no supervision of the pools by the hotel staff, so dispite there being signs prohibitting jumping in, bombing etc it all goes on. The indoor pool is surrounded by carpet which is not in a good condition. You cannot stay in the indoor pool for long as the chemicals in the pool are too strong and if the jets in the spa pool are switched on the effect of the chemicals on your eyes is increased.
Gym:
The Gym equipment is in a poor state of repair with at least 50% of the equipments being faulty.
Food:
The food in the hotel is very bland and the restaurants seem to all serve the same menu which is pizza, pasta or burgers.
Lifts:
There are only 3 very small lifts (2 x 3 persons and 1 x 5 persons). Only one lift goes from level 7 to 0 (0 is the top floor and 7 is the bottom floor). The lifts are serviceable but they are not smooth. Lift 3 always smelled of fish.
Wifi:
There is free wifi in the reception area, which is slow but useable. I would not recommend getting wifi in the room as it is very expensive, it could be cheaper to use data roaming.
Entertainment:
They have a different solo singer 5 nights of the week, unfortunately they all sing the same songs just in a different order, and not all of them can carry a tune.
Location:
The town is built in the hills and so it you have to walk up hill to get to the shops, there is is a small shop about 20 metres from the entrance of the hotel which stocks a variety of goods, but it is only open for limited hours and does not open on Sundays. The largest food shop is situated near the top of the hill (about a 1 in 4 slope). It is not too bad a walk and soon get used to it. You have to remember you have to carry everything in your arms as they only use plastic bags that do not have handles.
Transport
You are about an hour away from Vellatta by bus, this bus is very popular and is nearly always packed, so be prepared to stand for the duration. Not all the buses have working air con. The cost of the bus is very reasonable at 2.60 euros for a day pass, do not get a single as this costs 2.20 euros.

Room Tip: Eat at the Maritim, 50 metres from the lower exit of the hotel. The food is of a higher standard and...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time and sharing your recent experience at the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa.

We are extremely saddened at learning that a number of aspects may have hindered the enjoyment of your stay especially when considering that you were accommodated in one of our most well appointed units, enjoying beautiful panoramic views of both the village and the bay.
Please rest assured that each and every aspect mentioned was well investigated, with relevant action taken where deemed necessary. Meanwhile, for the benefit of our esteemed TripAdvisor Followers, we wish to clarify that throughout the warm months, the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa has four different food and beverage venues, all open simultaneously, offering a different type of cuisine. It is also worth highlighting that our main restaurant also offers daily different buffet themed dinner experiences.

While thanking you once again, please do accept our sincerest apologies if we were not proactive enough when you brought to our attention any matters arising.

Yours sincerely,

It was our first time in Malta for 19 years and we were looking forward to it. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome and given our room. The room was a 1 bedroom apartment, very spacious, very good condition and had everything you would need. We went half board and we're impressed by the standard of food. however our son is quite a choosy eater and we were a bit anxious about him not eating. Upon bringing this to the attention of the staff this was no problem we just had to ask for a meal that we knew he would eat and it was there within 10 mins. A big thank you to all the staff but personally to Steve,Mariette,Doreen,Amoris, and Andrew who kept us all fed and Derek who kept us watered at the cave bar. And not forgetting Paula who kept our room Lovely which with all their combined efforts made our stay such a pleasurable one. We would definately recomend this hotel

Room Tip: choose a sea view it's worth that wee bit extra

Booked a promo room and got lucky to find we'd been given a room with a balcony overlooking the upper pool as opposed to one of the internal rooms with no views that some people have had.

Room was clean and spacious, bathroom also a good size. One complaint was that the aircon was not so good, it didn't really cool the room down much and we resorted to sleeping with the balcony door open to allow air to circulate in the room. Luckily our room didn't suffer from any external noise issues even with the door open.

Hotel organises plenty of evenings for guests to enjoy, but we took advantage of the hotel location to visit the restaurants nearby for our evening meals. The beach at Mellieha is also worth visiting (but use the bus to get back as the walk home is a steep hill).

The staff were friendly and helpful and it was nice to receive a visit from the guest relations manager to our room one morning just to check that everything was ok and whether we had any questions she could answer, a nice touch.

The hotel is located nearby to the bus stops for trips to Valletta and getting around Malta using them is really easy.

If you're not a fan of walking up hills and steps this might be an area to avoid as it is hilly, but with such great views it's worth it!

Room Tip: Room 76 overlooks the upper pool area, nice and quiet in evenings, aircon is not great though and we...

Dear Guest,

We are glad you consider the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa as a very good hotel!

True, the Mellieha village does not come very highly recommended to those that have mobility issues, but yet the panoramic views are to die for, while the public transport to other areas of the island is very convenient. We trust that our quaint village of Mellieha will lure you back, anytime soon!
