Just got back from our first trip to Malta and our first stay at the Pergola. we were on a package deal so the trip from the airport took a little longer than we'd hoped for due to drop offs at other hotels. That was the only issue. The rest of the stay was excellent. Mellieha is a great place to base your stay on Malta as its less commercialised than some of the other resorts we visited but with plenty of amenities. Although we did do two organised excursions it is so easy to get around using the local bus service. The Pergola is a really nice hotel with good rooms, ours was a one bedroomed apartment with kitchen, lounge and bathroom with balcony overlooking the Cave Bar pool, and good value meals. We also stayed on a bed and breakfast basis which provided us with a great start to the day. Next time we go we'll be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: An apartment was good for us as we didn't want to eat out each evening and local shops sell good...

Had a wonderful stay here last year. The service from the staff at the hotel was wonderful. They gave us complementary shuttle service to and from the airport that was very helpful. The location is perfect as it allows you to explore all of Malta as there is a bus stop just down the road. There is also a tourist office near by where you can book excursions, I would definitely recommend visiting the island of Gozo. The 2 swimming pools are very well maintained and the bar area by the main pool, in the cave is a wonderful touch. Have nothing but good things to say about this hotel.

I stayed here around the end of May

First of all the hotel is spotless, fresh towels/bedlinen and pool area

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday Malta is the destination. It is so peaceful and quiet and the people are so friendly. Though I would say if you do not like lazing by the pool a weeks stay is enough

Also worth mentioning you definately need to get the bus to get around Malta, you can get a weekly ticket for 12 euro which is good value

My only criticism is there are a lot of steps to get up to the hotel by foot and we only found out on the last day that there was a lift, perhaps when you check in reception should inform guests of the lift

All the staff were so courteous and helpful, which really does make a difference to your stay

We did not use the spa whilst there. It is around 50 euros for a full body massage. Personally I can get a full body massage in Belfast for cheaper than that

We had lunch by pool one day which was also nice, however we mostly ate in the restaurant at the bottom of the street Maritim, I do recommend their pizza. yum!

Overall I would definately recommend the Pergola Hotel and would happily stay there again

Room Tip: Best to ask for a room with sea view. There are lovely views over the bay

Dear Guest,

We are very glad to hear that your recent stay at the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa was overall a very positive experience!

Indeed the Pergola is built along a very long staircase with its main entrance at the very top of the stairs. Through the hotel itself, one can use the exit at the very bottom of the steps, leading you to the centre of the village where one finds the main amenities including the nearest bus stop. Information about this exit is in fact listed on the key card presented at check-in, however, please accept our sincerest apologies if this was not verbally clarified, upon check-in.

The Da Vinci Spa offers a very wide selection of face and body treatments for the enjoyment of our esteemed clientele. Prices range according to treatment chosen however prices for a full body massage start from €40.00.

While thanking you so much for having chosen us in the first place, we very much hope to have you back on board any time soon!

Best regards,

We stayed for 10 days in The Pergola Club Hotel & Spa at the end of May. We found the staff incredibly helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble.
The main reason we chose this hotel was that they were also incredibly helpful prior to our booking, having responded to emails regarding available food options. One member of our party has coeliac disease and another is vegetarian, and we had to ensure that they could be catered for. Not only did they cater for both of these, but if we had any questions then the chef would come up and speak to us each night and offer to prepare something specially if we wanted. They even made different options for the children in our party. Over all the food options for both breakfast and evening meals were fabulous and the staff were great.
The hotel itself was clean and well maintained. The reception staff also helpful for information about the island and getting about.
Wifi was only in reception for free, which we weren't aware of before, and it was a little annoying, but we managed!
The cave bar was good in the evening, but only if you can cope with being outside! Although they did have the heater on, sometimes it was just too cold to sit outside, and the indoor bar wasn't open. I would recomend the country and western singer, although I am not a fan of Country and western, he was a great singer and entertainer!
Location wise it is approx 15 minutes walk from the beach, and it is all downhill, but is not nice to walk back up!!! There is a lift which takes you to the bottom of the stairs beside the hotel, which was a god send! Buses run up and down the hill regularly and they are fairly easy to catch. For 2.60 Euros you can get a daily ticket which covers the whole island, or 12 Euros for a weekly ticket. They are fairly scary bendy buses, which drive incredibly fast, but it is the best way to get about on the island.
Some of our party attended the spa for various treatments, and can whole heartedly recomend this too, they were very good.
I would definitly recomend this hotel to anyone, as they were just so helpful and friendly. Definitly prefered it to some of the bigger hotels in the area!

We've just returned from 2 weeks at the Pergola and have already booked 15 nights for next year, we obviously sounded like we had a good time as our daughter and her family have also booked a week. The location is central to everything, food is superb, have never met such welcoming and polite staff. The room was spotless! Cleaned thouroughly everyday, not a corner missed. Always sunloungers available, really can't think of a single negative. We had a nasty smell from the drain one day, reported it, within an hour it was sorted and didn't return. Only suggestion would be a clothes airer for the balcony. We had to lean the chairs up against swimming clothes and towels over the balcony to make sure they didn't fly over the steps! Counting down to next year!!

Room Tip: We had room 84 on level 0, although by the steps and could get noisy when people were arriving or de...

We stayed for 2 weeks at the Pergola. Best aspect: personable & responsive staff. When we ran into staff members elsewhere, like on the ferry coming from Gozo, they recognized us, talked to us, and made sure we got the right bus back. This wasn't done to garner a tip: it's part of why I liked visiting Malta so much & why I liked this hotel.

We started in a standard room which faced the upper pool. It was okay but we switched to an efficiency after a few days. The new room had a breathtaking view of the church, & we liked cooking in our room. Another benefit of switching was that we could finally get Wi-Fi in our room. If you're too far from reception, it doesn't work. Thus there are usually guests on iPads gathered in the lobby where it works.

I had a complaint about the weak blow dryer in our room. The installed ones they've got are useless if you've got long hair like I do. The front desk said they could do nothing, so I bought one at the pharmacist for 20 euros. I left it at the front desk when we checked out because I pack too light to carry one, & they said they'd lend it out. However, this was my only complaint with the hotel.

The breakfast buffet was good. I only ate muesli, yogurt, and fruit, but there was plenty for the meat eaters, and plenty of hot food, There were always enough tables, and the staff cleared the dirty plates quickly.

The Cave Bar atmosphere was just great. Drinks more expensive than off-site of course, but Derek is a great bartender, & it was a good place to meet other guests. I normally hate lounge singers, but they actually had musicians that I liked - Ernest in particular.

It's not a good hotel for people who don't like climbing stairs. There are elevators, but it's easier to take the stairs rather than wait for an elevator. I like exercise, so walking downhill to the beach (15 minutes), back up the hill (also 15 minutes), & up all the stairs to the Pergola lobby suited me just fine. I never did use the gym, but it's a plus that they have a workout room and a heated indoor pool, I preferred to swim in the Mediterranean.

I noticed another reviewer recommends renting a car. I'd never do that. I thought the bus system was excellent, and a plethora of buses stop right by the hotel. We went all over Malta, and to Gozo and Comino, via bus and ferry.

My husband attended mass every morning at the gorgeous church across the road. Then he bought produce from the produce vendor who sets up by the church. Most nights he made wonderful meals in our room, with that killer view of sun setting over the church. Then we often headed to the Cave Bar. It was a wonderful stay. I hope we can return to Malta, and we'd love to stay in the Pergola Hotel again.

Room Tip: Close to the reception desk if you're using Wi-Fi.
