Not a typing mistake. We were in apartment 2 which is at the top of the hotel. A splendid view across to Gozo, probably one of the better views in the hotel. The main room was spacious with good furnishings, the bedroom small with two metal frame beds, but comfortable. My gripe- being woken once at 6.30 and once at 6.45 by the big extract fan on the roof or nearby. The fan and motor seemed to be associated with the operation of the kitchen/ main restaurant air extract system. It was actually turned off during the day at intervals, and generally we were out somewhere, so no great problem. However, sometimes it was not turned off when we went to bed, and I can say that with the booming noise it was impossible to sleep. (even with earplugs in).
On two occasions at 23.30 hrsI had to contact the reception to have the unit turned off (once I had to ask twice). Another time, I went down to reception in my pyjamas at midnight to request the fan to be switched off.

We were offered an alternative room on the second day but unfortunately this did not have a similarly splendid view, in fact it faced a big yellow crane. So we opted for the view and the noise.

Perhaps the esteemed manager could arrange for the noise level to be reduced, perhaps by redirecting the exhaust of the fan away from the apartment roof. If that is too expensive, then perhaps by issuing an instruction to all concerned that the relevant equipment be switched off when it is no longer needed.

The guests don`t like the noise, nor the money they pay for the electricity to keep it running.

Dear Guest,

We very highly regret to read that an element of noise has hindered your overall experience, during your recent stay with us. At the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa we value all forms of constructive criticism and hence, we have taken the time to investigate what could have led to this disturbance, with the aim of possibly avoiding a repeat performance. We are now in the understanding that a plumbing related malfunction has in fact contributed to this situation.

Unfortunately this situation is now in the past and cannot be taken back, hence, please do accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused. Meanwhile we very much trust that albeit this, you will still consider re-visiting the Maltese Islands in the future and will not hesitate to once again trust us with your self-catering accommodation. Should you indeed consider this option, please do not hesitate to contact myself personally where I shall ensure that your stay with us will be as enjoyable as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Elaine Cutajar Debono

We stayed in Pergola Appartments in the first week of May, 2013. If you want to explore Malta, it is advisable to have a rental car available. Otherways, you will have to travel by bus, which is a good alternative. We had a 2-room appt with sea-view. Lots of space, very clean and a beautiful view on Comino and Gozo. Rich choice in breakfast (buffet). Employees are very kind and helpful and the housekeeping do their work in a very good way.. Darkening curtains for those who want to sleep a bit longer. However, there is some noise from outside, because the apps. are very close to the town center. In this center you will find perfect restaurants. We would advice this premises to all our friends

The Pergola is situated in quite a good location in Melliha, close to the mainstreet with a lot of restaurants and a few shops and if you are making use of the buses on Malta it's perfectly situated since it's really close to the bus stop.

There is A LOT of elevators in this hotel! We actually needed to use three different elevators to get from our room to the pool!
It takes a while til you get the hang of it ..

The rooms/apartments are acceptable in standard accept the bathroom, we had problems all week with the flushing and with water pouring out on the floor when we used the shower. The AC is hopeless, neither the heat or the cool really work. The beds are okay as far as comfort. The kitchenette is really good. WiFi didn't work at all in our apartment and that was a big problem for us, we didn't have any connection on any if our 4 units! The tv is a joke, there was about 4 channels and all of them had really bad reception. It's really badly soundproofed so if someone is talking in the corridor you get really disturbed.

Breakfast is quite good. The pools are okay but lower pool needs cleaning badly. The cave bar by the pool had acceptable food for light lunch but the system they have with the bartender running back and forward to the kitchen to get the orders was absolutely ridiculous!

The staff was nice and helpful.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your recent experience at the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa.
At our hotel we strive very hard at offering our esteemed guests an overall positive experience and hence, we are doing our best endeavors to investigate various less positive aspects mentioned in your review.

For clarification purposes, the cooling system is regulated according to the weather conditions and it being still early in May with the evening temperature not any higher than 16 degrees celsius, to meet the overall expectations of the guests' in-house, the system was maintained at a moderate pace throughout the duartion of your stay.

While trusting that the Pergola Club Hotel & spa will have a future opportunity where to re-win your trust, please do not hesitate to contact us directly should you deem this necessary.

Yours sincerely,

Just back from a short break staying at the Pergola. The room was spacious clean with a beautiful pool view. The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. The food in both the resturant and pool area was lovely and great value for money. Overall a beautiful friendly place to stay and I will definitely be back

Nice hotel, excellent service. The hotel truly is a maze, but at arrival the receptionist gives you a map, and it´s pretty easy finding your way. Nice, and very authentic maltese entertainment... I liked it alot.

I found the hotel to be excellent and the staff helpful and friendly. The choice of food was excellent again. The rooms were very clean. I will be going back next year and staying longer. The fact that the hotel is non smoking is an added bonus.

Room Tip: They are all good.

The Pergola is a wonderful hotel, well kept and clean outstanding value and in a brilliant location close to the town with a lovely walk to the beach. I would highly reccommend a stay here. We stayed for 7 nights on a half board basis, there was always plenty of food available and the soups are outstanding. The Cave Bar is the highlight of the whole hotel, it is such a relaxed and enjoyable place to spend your evening - Derek the bar man is great fun and brilliant at making cocktails! The only down side we found this time is that the housekeeping in our room was very slow at times.
