“Enjoyable 30 day winter stay”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

Stayed from 16 Jan 2013. Room was much larger than we anticipated and was comfortable with very good storage space, seating for two at a small round table and a settee that was well and truly lounged upon (a bed settee which was not used as such.) The room was cleaned to an acceptable standard and the hotel as a whole has high standards of cleanliness.
The indoor swimming pool is invitingly warm and encourages lazy relaxation rather than lightning lengths. It is small but perfectly formed.
The food ( breakfast and dinner for us) was fairly varied and always well cooked and tasty. There were a few occasions when some dishes were very good. We particularly liked the breakfast bangers - they were pork - absolutely no suggestion at all of even the faintest whinny!
This hotels biggest asset is its staff. They are a credit to themselves and the hotel itself. It is clear that the management insist upon very high standards which are delivered in a warm, friendly and efficient manner. They made our stay a very pleasurable experience. Thank you.

Stayed here at the beginning of Feb. I found the location in the centre of Mellieha to be excellent, the hotel is clean, well run and the room was large and well appointed.

As a previous reviewer has noted, there was a problem with hot water around this period, but this was quickly resolved as far as I can tell. The B&B cost of this off-season stay was less than any UK Inn/Lodge that's bed only, and hundreds of times better specified. To complain about this 4* hotel at this price would be ridiculous. Campsites can cost more! Overall - recommended and I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Room numbers starting with "2" are in the adjoining complex, and while an extra minute'...

My friend and myself stayed at this hotel for 3 weeks from 3rd week Jan to Feb.20013. Our rooms were at the back of the hotel and were nicely furnished with a small balcony. Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels daily. Cleaning of rooms was a bit hit and miss. We stayed on half board basis - the breakfast was the same every morning - not a great choice and not always hot. Evening meals were quite good - if there was nothing you fancied in the hot buffet you only had to ask the waiter and the chef would make something else for you - Carmel one of the chefs was lovely and always asked if we were happy with the meal he had made for us . All the staff were polite, helpful and friendly - especially Mariaska (not sure spelt correctly) in restaurant. Overall for what we paid it was value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of hotel are quieter.

Would like to be positive about this hotel as the staff are fantastic especially Amanda and Derek who were knowledgeable and welcoming .
We booked back in June and as the break was cheap did not have great expectations . We arrived to a busy reception and a mix up with the rooms. Sent off the the key to the luggage store in the basement as our rooms were not ready as we came back to reception we were told it was a mistake our rooms were ready, back down to the basement back up to return the key and back down again for our rooms.
Both rooms smelt strongly of damp and had a very small thin window at the top of the wall . Unable to be reached with outstanding on a chair. It become apparent why the room smelt damp it was below street level the window at the bottom of the pavement . The bathroom had a window with a broken lock beside the bath and when opened lead to a lift like shaft.
During the night people's feet and cats passed the window . I opened the window at one point to air the room and was joined by two cats.
There was no hot water for 3 of the 7 days and we showered in the pool area. Staff tried to resolve this but with limited success . There were many other issues but all minor and not worth a complaint .

Dear Guest,

We thank you for sharing your recent experience at the Solana Hotel & Spa with our esteemed Trip Advisor Followers.

We are pleased to note that you found our Team to be knowledgeable and welcoming but yet remain very much perplexed at learning that your accommodation experience was a negative one, especially when our records indicate that when our Guest Relations Team sought feedback on your well being, this was in the affirmative. Hotel Solana was very clean and welcoming we had a room at the front of the hotel which was very nice and had everything we needed the only issue was it was very noisy because of traffic and its all through the night, we would recomend a weekly bus pass as you can go any where on the island and they run till late at night, there is a lovely restaurant called master wok next to hotel is is very very nice. Would happily go back again.

Room Tip: try to get a room at back of hotel

When we arrived at the hotel we where greeted with welcome drinks which I thought was a lovely welcome. But was put in a room at the front and the traffic was so noisy! But I complained and the staff where great they moved us to another room. But unfortunately the room was damp and quite mouldy. But we decided to stay.
The beds where comfy and lovely to sleep in. Breakfast in the morning was freezing complained and the next day it was the same again was not happy with the breakfasts overall.
The room was cleaned when we wanted it cleaned. But one of the days I went to switch the light off and the switch flew off the wall it scared the life out of me. I thought this would of been very dangerous if a child would of done this.
Overall I don't think I will be back, mellieha was too out of the way and the food was disgusting.
But the weather for January the week we got was really warm which most definatly made it enjoyable!

Dear Guest,

We thank you for taking the time in sharing with us your feedback, following your recent stay at the Solana Hotel & Spa.

As witnessed by your good self, our Team constantly aim at offering a quality holiday experience to our esteemed guests, and hence, please rest assured that we shall be thoroughly investigating any maintenance issues being brought to our attention.

For the benefit of our esteemed TripAdvisor Followers, where Mellieha is concerned, this remains one of the most picturesque, typical villages in Malta and while it has a lot to offer, it all depends on what the client’s preferences are. If the client’s holiday preference is to enjoy typical Maltese village life, very much in the near vicinity of Malta’s largest sandy beach, surrounded by unspoilt countryside and a mix of very good restaurants, then Mellieha remains one of your best choices, when holidaying in Malta!

Yours truly,

Lovely modern & clean hotel which was perfect for our weekend away. It is close to all of the local bars & restaurants and the bus stops were right outside. The view from the top of the hotekl was beautiful, looking over the church & the bay. It was our first time in Malta & gave us the perfect base to go exploring. We stayed as B&B and can say the breakfast was lovely and so was the food in the restuarant.
