“Took offer and loved the Golden Sands Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2007

Just returned from a week stay at the Golden Sands Resort and Spa in Malta. I found an offer online at dream holidays's website destinationmalta com and don't regret any minute. It's true we had to attend an almost 3 hours tour of the property but it was really worth it.

Excellent hotel and facilities, very friendly staff and the views are unmatched. Would definitely reccommend it to anyone and we look forward to visit it again next year.

My family and I spent four days at the hotel during the christmas months and we loved it! The decorations throughout the hotel were beautiful and all very original. The rooms were very spacious with fantastic sea views. The food does not compare to most other hotels. Breakfast was very nice, so was the food at Aglio Oglio (the pizzeria), Flavours (the buffet restuarant) and Essence (the a la carte restaurant). The bars had nice atmospheres and the staff were all extremely friendly and very helpfull! Hotel has got a supermarket in the island residence tower which is well stocked and you can even rent bikes nowerdays!!

Overall amazing stay and cannot wait to go back! Nothing to complain about, what so ever.

I was not really looking forward to this holiday. I thought it might be too hot and that we would be plagued by timeshare touts. However, although there was a timeshare presentation, it was ok. and they left us alone afterwards. As for the weather, it was warm and sunny, with a breeze - perfect! There was plenty of shade around the hotel, although obviously this was not the case further afield.

The hotel is wonderful - lovely spacious rooms - we had a sea view too, with all mod cons including effective air conditioning, The restaurants were superb, loads of choice and good value too. The quality and variety of food was excellent both for breakfast and dinner.

The pool was lovely, and although there was the usual sunbed hogging problem, the staff dealt with it very fairly and tactfully - in fact I never saw anyone wait for more than a few minutes before being found a sunbed - they really seemed to care about the guests welfare!

The staff are a tremendous assett to this beautiful hotel. They were all really friendly and helpful - although sometimes perhaps a little overworked. The only complaints I heard were at breakfast, where lack of staff meant that coffee and tea were often rather late arriving.

The spa and treatment area was also wonderful, the beach was great (apart from a few jellyfish that arrived one day), and we made use of the local bus service to see the island. Apart from Popeye village (waste of space), we had great fun exploring, and we enjoyed a trip to Gozo and a boat trip around the area, All in all a fantastic holiday.

  • Liked — top quality facilities, very spacious,
  • Disliked — sofa bed was not nearly as comfy as proper beds.

My wife and I spent a lovely 2 week holiday in Malta staying at Club Paradiso (9 suites at penthouse level which is part of a holiday club) in the Radisson SAS Golden Sands.
We stayed in a fantastic 92 square metres one bedroom suite which was individually designed and furnished to the highest standard. Unfortunately the front facing rooms were full so only had a partial sea view which was very peaceful. Our maids were very friendly and made sure the room was clean, tidy and changed towels and bedding every day.
We only eat at the hotel twice as we had a hire car and list of restaurant recommendations from the fantastic Lisa who we met on the plane. The first meal at the hotels buffet restaurant was fabulous but on the second occasion was disappointing in comparison (both around £35.00 for 2 courses with wine for 2). Restaurants we would recommend within 15 minutes drive were Half Way Inn (£25.00 for 2 courses with wine for 2), Il-Mithna (£35.00 for 2 courses with wine for 2) and our favorite Tarragon (again £35.00 for 2 courses with wine for 2).
The indoor pool located in the Spa was fabulous however the peace and tranquility was spoiled occasionally by children who ignored the signs saying they weren’t allowed. There were plenty of sun beds around the large pools and on the beach.
The hotel currently has inadequate parking which I am told will be rectified soon but at the moment this makes the main entrance a bit of a problem area. Otherwise the hotel staff were first class and we were not troubled once by the onsite timeshare sales who seemed very busy.
We visited Valletta – very busy and parking is impossible however the park and ride system was great, Mdina – not too busy and well preserved, Gozo – We went on a day tour for around £30.00 which was quite good however the ferry is only about £3.00 return. We visited the Meridian Vineyard which was interesting and produces wines of high quality although a little expensive.
Overall a great place for relaxing, excellent hotel, recommended.

We were offered a special package for this hotel which included an obligatory 'Timeshare presentation'. Although I was a little concerned about other reviews and possible pressure tactics, my fears were totally unfounded. The hotel is really lovely and the service we received attentive and helpful although I must say if you haven't experienced five star treatment before I could understand how you might interpret it as slightly off hand, smiles did seem a little sparse form the reception staff. There are a couple of beach bars which offer lightly lower prices for meals but I would suggest the hotel restaurants are extremely good quality and about equivalent to the prices for a decent meal at home at about £6 to £8 pounds stg for pizza pasta or £14 to £16 for a steak meal. It is certainly not cheap if that's what your looking for, but worth the money in most cases especially the buffet breakfast! The beach is small and packed with locals in the evenings and especially at weekends, but it was great to be part of and the hotel has its own private section for residents. The timeshare presentation took 3hrs so be prepared, but there was no pressure and we were allowed to make up our own minds as to whether it suited us, which it didn't. We were then free to enjoy the rest of our holiday. So if you are thinking of taking up a similar deal I would recommend doing so, we loved it, great value for five star hotel.

Firstly, Everything the positive reviews say is true!! However we are STILL HERE (2 kids 3&6, two adults and there clearly is a big issue with the timeshare touts, the other 2 BUILDINGS ARE TIMESHARES! and those who book a regular holiday via travel agents! we met THREE couples who booked through first choice and paid £3k for two weeks with no mention of the COMPULSORY, (signed for in small print at check-in unwittingly )four hour incredibly tedious timeshare 1-1 'presentation'!!! On our allotted day we happily told the rep that we are not really interested but happy to listen to truncated version.... he asked us to wait and returned with a 'colleague' who read us the riot act in front of our children ending in '...if you don't do the whole thing we will charge you £125 per night for the remainder of your stay...'.. The rep was fine, just doing his job, but please note that 4 hours for the children to stay 'entertained' when there is no kid club or (its a room, UNDER 4'S, you must stay) . The service is dodgy prob 2 star the hotel is 5 star but a ghost town most of the time!

  • Liked — The hotel itself
  • Disliked — the service and the TIMESHARE!!!!

Once again my family and I have just returned from a wonderful 2 week holiday in Malta staying at the Radisson SAS Golden Sands. We were fortunate enough to stay there last year on the Island Residence Clubs timeshare deal, we loved it so much we booked to stayed again this year, I have to say in a year nothing has changed its stil a wonderful hotel, we booked a 1 bedroom apartment with a sea view, and wow what a beautiful view, we were on the third floor which was Fantastic, our maid was wonderful, she made sure the room was clean, tidy and changed towels and bedding every day, she was brilliant. We booked breakfast for the 2 weeks as we were self catering and ok yes to some it is a little expensive £400 for 2 adults & 2 Children, but its definatly worth it, the food is still very very good, there are 2 restaurants and 1 little cafe on the beach which sell food & drink alot cheaper (Munchies being the best), but the food at the radisson is definatley second to none. The courtesy bus runs every day unfortunatly the evening we wanted to use it we forgot you had to book it by 5.00pm never mind we know next time and it wasnt that bad as we had hired a car starting the next day anyway. The entertainment has improved a little but I feel it still needs more for families in the evenings, the Mocha Bar has a guitarist or pianist in the evenings and the Annimation Team do a Caberet show on a Saturday night, but this doesnt start until 10.00pm which is a little late when you have small children, that i feel is the hotels only downfall, apart from that its a wonderful place to stay, clean, the staff are very friendly and will do anything to please you, I would highly recommend the Radisson and cant wait for next year?
