“Malta and this hotel should be on everyone's vacation list”

I am a Club Carlson member but stayed at this resort though the time share portion. After staying in numerous Radisson Hotels world wide, I can tell you that making a reservation here is money well spent. From Danielle and Bernadine at the reception desk to Henri in the restaurant for breakfast, the hotel staff goes out of their way to make the guest feel important.
The facilities were very comfortable, the staff willing to offer suggestions on the things to do and see in the area. At Golden Sands getting around is easy as the bus station is close by and the public transportation very easy to use. There is a breakfast option which we bought--the buffet was excellent. The hotel is a distance from other restaurants but the choices at the hotel and the restaurants at the beach were very good and not overly priced (about what you pay in Chicago, USA). The public bus system made it easy to get around the island and to the ferry to GOZO. The reception staff-thank you!- excelled at marking maps so one did not get lost on the public transportation adventure. This definitely is a five star resort.

For those of you who book Club Select thru Diamond Resorts or through Intervalworld--think of this resort as a timeshare option--you will not be disappointed either as a hotel guest,Club Carlson member, or time share owner. We loved our Malta experience and this hotel!!

Room Tip: 1. Get a room with a sea view 2. if you are going to be at the hotel for several days-get the publi...

We stayed in a studio room, country-facing, for a week from 27th November. Service? Starting & finishing with the drivers who collected and dropped us at the airport, and continuing through the reception, restaurant and bar staff and the travel company and shuttle bus reps, we found everyone pleasant, friendly and ready with a smile. When we locked ourselves out of our safe, the man from "Security" came to help within 5 minutes. Food? Vast choice at breakfast. During the week a restaurant was open for lunch & dinner, a cafe-bar was open all afternoon and evening, we enjoyed every meal we had at the hotel. True (another review mentions a lot of fried food & salt) the vegetables were glistening with butter but they were cooked to perfection, they were tasty and I wouldn`t be surprised if you could have had them steamed instead if you`d asked. There was enough choice to eat healthily or to surrender yourself to the cakes, ice cream and oil/fat based sauces if you wanted. A large salad or pasta dish and a drink cost around 15 euros. Drinks in the lounge bar were around 5 euros each: comparable with UK hotels. I liked the red wine. Over the weekend, another buffet restaurant opened up and the hotel seemed well-used by the Maltese. On enquiry, the chicken was "brought up in a cage" but the beef was Aberdeen Angus. Evening entertainment? The musicians & singers were all worth listening to, it`s a pity there weren`t more guests to hear them, a dozen people applauding in the lounge bar felt a bit sparse but the indoor pool and jacuzzi were all the better without a crush. To do? We found table tennis, pool and table football in a games room. Tennis, cycling and horse-riding were bookable and a couple of free yoga classes were on offer. Rooms? Our studio was spacious, clean, well-equipped, well-decorated, everything worked. The wind buffeted the windows at night but our room was warm and quiet and a pleasure to come back to. The hotel shop and studio fridge meant we could have fresh milk and a mug of tea on tap. Sea facing rooms come with a wow factor, try and get one. Outside? Sandy beaches and suntrap terraces though, for our week, the weather was a mix of sunshine, wind and rain. The nature reserve next door is scrub on limestone, dotted with hunting shacks: we liked the coastal views and the smell of crushed thyme as we picked our way over it. Isolated? Yes but that`s the price you pay for sandy beaches away from the built-up towns and the madding crowds. Arriva buses stop outside the hotel and will take you over the island for 2.60 euros per day. On all but one occasion they were punctual, early if anything, but we witnessed a bit of chaos in the main bus station in Valletta and you might not want to rely on the last bus home. For 6 or more euros, you can use the hotel`s own shuttle buses which are quicker and guaranteed to be where & when you expect them. Having said this, we were out & about on the buses every day. Timeshare promotion? Two & a half hours of explanation with a mild push but no hard sell: the time devoted to it was a small price to pay for the 5 star value of the hotel. The free tour bus ticket was a good way to see a bit of the island early on. The free 2-hour harbour cruise was interesting as much for the modern working docks and yacht marinas, as for the views of the old-city and ramparts. To Beware? Bring hair conditioner, none supplied. Touts may cruise the bus stop and entice you into their cars on false premises (buses cancelled due to local procession) and promises. Despite the timetable, the no.44 back from Valletta left us at a local town, Mgarr, for another bus to take us the last 10 mins back to the hotel. Although this didn`t fail us, we never relied on it beyond 20:30 and it was a bit unnerving hanging around in the dark, contemplating a long walk home if that other bus didn`t show. Overall? We had very good food, service, accommodation and value for money:we`d definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view studio

This is our second stay at the Radisson Golden Sands. It is blessed with a gorgeous beach and ocean setting, and stunning sunsets. That being said, we feel the hotel has declined since our last visit. You get the impression because of its beautiful location, the hotel feels like it does not have to deliver excellent customer service or provide edible meals at its restaurants. Many of the appliances in our unit did not work, including the vcr, the microwave and the telephone. Calls to remedy the situation were either ignored or took days to resolve. Also our keys stopped working twice during ours week's stay so I had to wait on ten minute lines twice at the front desk to resolve that. It seemed like our vacation was repeatedly infringed upon by resolving all these petty issues with the room, with no apology from the hotel whatsoever. The hotel is located in an isolated area, so once is pretty much reliant on hotel restaurants unless one is renting a car, which we were not. The room service was really good (except for the hamburger which was hideous) but the pizza/pasta restaurant had lousy service and food. The pizza was nothing like last year. It tasted like a salty cardboard pizza from the frozen food section. Even a hungry dog would turn his nose up at it. The hotel seriously needs to improve on its restaurants, since it is in such a remote area with limited choices. You can find yourself going hungry if you don't plan ahead. The hotel offers a Drifter shuttle service which was an excellent way to excape the hotel and see the island's attractions. The pools, hotel grounds, and the beach are very beautiful. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are clean and cozy. However, if you are looking for five star service you will find it lacking at the Radisson Golden Sands.

Room Tip: Try to get a seaside view if possible. We had one last time.

This hotel ticked all the boxes except for the evening meals in Flavours resturant which were always either warm or cold the sweets were very poor, I paid over the telephone for 4 Breakfasts & 4 dinners the breakfasts were fine, value for mony, the dinners were very poor once we had used my vouchers we used Munchies on the beach which was supurb quality and very reasonable the entertainment was very poor which was indicated by the poor attendence max 14 people any night over our 14 night stay, the drinks were very expensive but you did get a tray of nuts each night to chew if you wished.

Room Tip: This hotel the best, all except the evening meals in the flavers resturant the hot food was always w...

Lovely setting overlooking the sea with large pool area. We were on a timeshare exchange and were given a small but fairly well equipped room - there are much better rooms to be had - it is best to have a sea view if possible - the "countryside view" rooms overlook the car park and
a scouts campsite. Car hire is essential as the resort is fairly remote and difficult to access other sites unless hiring a taxi. We were self-catering so cannot comment on the restaurants. Overall a very pleasant weeks stay.

Room Tip: Sea view room if possible

Just returned from a week's stay at the Radisson Golden Sands resort in Malta - enjoyed our stay very much and can highly recommend this hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, the hotel itself is very well appointed and the rooms are very comfortable and clean with all modern facilities - the best thing being the beds - ours was THE most comfortable hotel bed I have EVER slept in absolutely wonderful to wake up every morning totally refreshed after a good night's sleep! The food in both the buffet restaurant (Flavours) and the A La Carte restaurant (Agliolio) was excellent and we ate in the A La Carte on 3 nights of our stay! Also can highly recommend the cocktails in the Swizzles Bar (especially the White Chocolate one and the Lemongrass Martini - delicious!) and taking afternoon tea on the Mokka Bar terrace watching the sunset - perfect end to the day!. Also, the hotel has a very handy shuttle bus service which is reasonably priced so you can get out and about and the local buses also stop just outside the hotel so easy to go exploring the island (recommend using the "Malta Sightseeing Hop-on Hop-off" buses). The hotel also has an excellent spa and indoor pool/jacuzzi which is recommended along with a very nice private beach, safe for swimming as very shallow. Would definitely stay at this hotel again and looking forward to re-visiting Malta!

Room Tip: We had a "country-side" with a partial side sea view which was nice in the Twilight Tower.
