“A very nice family break”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

The Riviera is an excellent Hotel. Bedrooms and all public areas are immaculately clean. The staff from management to chabermaids, bars and restaurent are all friendly and well disposed to the British. The reception staff were especially accommodating and helpful.
For the kids there was always someone from the hotel to play with and entertain them in the pool area.
on the down side, and this is not particular to the Riviera but probably to all such resort hotels catering for so many people, the restaurant whilst always having a good choice and range of foods to suit most europeans the quality was not what it might have been. Even things like the excellent home made soups were spoilt by being luke warm. Luke warm is a fair description of most of the food except for anything from the live cooking station which I think was always a pasta meal.
By far the majority of the guests were German but fortunately not the sun bed grabbing variety. Queing however is still a concept that elludes them.
Marfa bay is well off the beaten track with the only other hotel being the Ramla Bay across on the other side of the lagoon that serves as a small harbour. There are NO other bars or restaurants A life saver was a local man who had set up camp with his mobile emporium on the street outside the hotel. He sells everything imaginable, even cooked breakfasts. if he doesn't have something he will, if possible, get it for you.

Across the bay are the Blue Lagoon boat tour people. their speedboat tour of comino and the blue lagoon is both exillerating and informative and worth every penny. Not to be missed.

Dear Chrissie 20091969
I am happy to read you had a very nice family break at Riviera Resort & Spa. It’s great that the kids were kept busy with the animation team. Thank you for your very favourable comments regarding the cleanliness of the rooms and public areas along with the friendliness of the staff and management throughout the resort..
I am glad you took time to explore our sister Islands and found them exhilarating and informative. From the Pier right outside the Riviera Resort & Spa it is convenient to choose a trip that all the family would enjoy.
Regarding some of your other points concerning the Food & Beverage operation they have been discussed with our Executive Chef Daniel. I am happy to see that you enjoyed the good Choice and range of food that was on offer in the Mirasol restaurant during meal times.
Thank you once again for your warm comments. The team and I look forward to welcoming you back to Riviera Resort &Spa.
.

Best Regards.

Brian.

Just arrived back from a weeks holiday at this lovely hotel. We were looking for a relaxing spring break and this hotel ticked all the boxes. The spa is excellent with lots of choice of treatments. The outdoor pools have beautiful views of the sea. The food was very good with lots of choice,we ate at the pizza restaurant and bistro. The hotel is very clean and the staff work very hard to make sure that your holiday is relaxing and enjoyable. Special mention to Karen who works at the lounge bar,she couldn't do enough for you,she is a great asset to the hotel. We were upgraded on arrival at no extra cost to the penthouse suite. The views were amazing. Thanks to everyone at the hotel for a great holiday, cheers!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

We decided to have a mini-moon after our wedding- this was a last minute booking. The booking process was very smooth. On arrival, staff were available to help & check in was quick- although it was midnight when we arrived, Aneilya at Reception -was most welcoming. On arrival, our room was made up as a surprise. Staff are wonderful here, especially Karen (behind the bar) & Vicky in customer relations. Food was good, facilities were good, the spa was lovely- all very clean & functional.

Location of this hotel is picturesque- beautiful setting. There are very good local transport links (bus & boat) to get around the bay- very reasonable.

Drinks- spirits were local, but good.

Suggestions; wifi services are limited; Facebook for example was not allowed. This would be excellent if this was sorted.

Not all of the buffet food is labeled; this would be good if this was remedied.

Thanks for a lovely break.

Booked this hotel for a week in April.
What a great hotel this is. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very welcoming, friendly man who checked us in very quickly. Once we got to our room, we were again pleasantly surprised. The room was spotless, and the view was amazing- we had a sea view.
We went all-inclusive and very glad we did as looking at the prices, food/drink would've been expensive. The restaurant downstairs had a great atmosphere, and the staff were lovely (particular praise to Muhammad and Michael). The food was great each night- very fresh and of good quality.
Overall, the facilities in general were very good. The spa area was fantastic (however hot tub dirty). The outdoor pool area was also great, as was the bar out there. It is a lovely area for socialising and relaxing. However, pool far too cold to go in- would be better if it were heated!
Lobby area was also great and praise to Karen in the lobby bar who was always friendly and very efficient.
Only downfall with this hotel would be the wifi- which was terrible. The free wifi can only be accessed in the lobby area, and barely worked. It wasn't reliable and there's no point in trying to get access when there's a lot of people.
Overall, this hotel was fantastic and we had a brilliant stay. The staff were faultless and always smiling. Thanks for a great stay Riviera!

Went for a weeks break, and to rest up after a injury. The hotel was clean and fresh bedding and towels were supplied through out the week, they were two pools with life guards who carried out aqua aerobic classes for those who wished to join in. The children entertainments put on various things through out the day with a disco at night to entertain the children, within the bar it hey were entertainment in the way of a band and vocalist. The hotels buffet offered various dishes and sweets to temp anyone's pallet and I found it very easy to have a good meal. The rooms were very comfortable and on the night of our arrival we never reached the hotel until after nine and on entering our room I seen that the hotel had arranged for a tray with various cold meats cheese and salad with refreshment were put in our room which I really enjoyed after travelling. The hotel sat right on the sea and across the water you could see Gozo and the sunset was lovely.
There was a bus stop just outside the hotels Thor transport to various places on the island, despite being a bit out from the town centre I found it really easy to get into and out of the different places throughout the day, at night I opted to take a taxi home which only cost around ten pounds.
Found this hotel to be good and enjoyed my holiday very much. Despite not having a late check out we were offered the washing facilities with the spa on the day of departure and our cases we're keep in a locked safe area that could only be entered accompanied by a staff member which was great has we a a late evening flight home

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a lovely view of Gozo and the sunset

Dear reviewer,
I would like to start off by thanking you for your kind comments posted above. It is very satisfactory to hear that you found our resort a place where one can rest and relax after some troubled times. We have recently taken part in an exercise to ensure that our resort is easily accessible to guests with special requirements.
Thank you for mentioning our room cleanliness as our house keeping team are very keen to keep the hotel up to the best standards.
Our animation team and attending musicians also strive very hard to update the weekly programme, including that for children, to keep our guests entertained.
As you have mentioned our staff can easily accommodate a comfortable arrival or departure outside normal hours.

We have just got back from the Riviera Resort and Spa hotel, Marfa Bay, Malta
9th to the 16th April.
This is a good hotel, it has 4 stars and tries very hard. The staff are all courteous and polite unlike some of the visitors. It has a mainly German clientele, as it is advertised in brochures through the German equivalent of Thomas Cook.
The food was excellent, it was very varied and plentiful. The kitchen staff work hard to ensure everyone is well fed. There are 3 restaurants to choose from. If all inclusive the trattoria is included but the al a carte is 25% off.
Rooms were spacious and very clean.
Everywhere was very clean!
My only gripe was the noise levels in the bars and main eating areas and that was simply down to the size of the rooms and the fact that they are marble which reflects sound.
Great bonus was the carpeted halls which meant no clickety click of suitcase wheels, fantastic!
Marfa bay is away from any shops, clubs etc so this is not the place to stay if you are looking for night life and bars, but for just relaxing it is perfect.
Trips to Gozo and Comino are available and a little tip is book though the hotel consessions as they are cheaper.
The hotel is out of the way and to get to anywhere means a trip on a bus. Or hire a car.
The animation team tried really hard to engage with the visitors and senior management are seen throughout the hotel in the day and evening.
Spa treatments are fun and reasonably priced.
All in all this is a GOOD hotel. Perfect for romantic couples and those just wanting to get away from the pace of life.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room which we got. It had a land view and a balcony.

Thank you for mentioning the hotel’s cleanliness as it is one of our top priorities.

My wife, two daughters and their partners are just back from a weeks holiday at the Riviera . The building looks impressive as you approach it and the foyer is quite impressive. Our rooms were quite spacious but the furniture and fittings were a bit worn and looked tired. All the doors to the balcony were unable to be locked and the showers had frequent water flow problems.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were half board and all the meals we had were of a good standard and lots of it. The choice for vegetarians was limited and most of the food was heavily laced with garlic, a problem for me and several other members of the party.
