We stayed at the Rivera at the start of September for an all inclusive family holiday. Overall, the hotel was excellent. Hotel was clean with two good sized swimming pools BUT very salty! Our room was lovely, cleaned everyday and spacious with air con, tv, wardrobe and dressing table. The hotel has a shop, 3 bars on site and one near the beach which is 1 min walk away. The food in the restaurant was really good, they had fresh fish everyday which was sooooooo nice and a good selection of mains, starters, puddings and sides. Food is aimed at adults but my daughter (3) still ate what was there and the staff will make children chicken nuggets and chips. They also had a new pizza place where you could have dinner. Not much selection there but nice for a change. Staff are so friendly, especially the man who waits outside in the main restaurant and the lady at the reception bar! All inclusive drinks were soft drinks, local beer & wines, 2 non alcoholic cocktails and 4 alcoholic cocktails and some spirits. My other half said the beer was nice but not exactly strong and would say the same about the cocktails. The entertainment was ok, singing every night, the guys who look like they cant sing for toffee were actually the best ones!! There was a kids club but all info about the club and the kids club workers were all German, so we didnt understand how it worked! There wasnt many children there and not very much for children to do. The kids club staff were friendly and i liked that they were based on poolside where parents could see what they were doing but the only thing I saw them do was colouring in which we joined in with once.
The hotel location is quiet, there is one more hotel along the road and the beach bay but thats it. The sun loungers by the beach are for use by the other hotel guests which was a bit annoying. But sunloungers for Riviera guests were a bit further along, just not on the beach. The sea is lovely - clear, warm and shallow!
We took the Blue Lagoon trip opposite the hotel which is cheap and about 10/15 mins away by boat. If you go here I would recommend you go early as it was absolutely packed. The sea is beautiful but there is not much space for the amount of people who were there. We also took the Gozo ferry which was 20 mins walk away, again very cheap - around 4 euros per person return. If you go there would recommend planning what you do beforehand (unlike us!) as there's not much at the other end near the port apart from a few restaurants. We also went to Selima for the day via bus. The bus stop is just outisde the Riviera and the bus was 2 euros 60 for return ticket for the day and free for children. If you get travel sick I do not recomend you take the bus, and then sit at the back!!!! Selima was nice, it has 2 shopping centres (which arent very well signposted, thank god for Google maps!) with plenty of good shops and cafes.
