My wife and I stayed at the hotel from the end of January 2013 until mid February. As we had previously lived in Malta we were aware of the hotel and had heard only positive reports from guests that we encountered prior to our visit. We noted a few negative reports on Trip advisor but that's often the case. This is definitely a 4* Malta hotel. Claims that it was 'old and tired' are grossly unfair. This hotel is open all year and has permanent maintainence staff to deal with the obvious wear and tear of guests. It is run professionally and all requests are attended to with a minimum of fuss. This hotel is not for those seeking the 3 or 4 am finishes of St Julians and Paceville. Nor is it suitable for those travellers seeking an active 'night life'. However, for all those (including families) who wish for a good base, extensive amenities, considerate staff, a high level of comfort and decent food then this could be the ideal hotel. If a guest wishes to travel frequently to Gozo and yet have ready access to northern Malta the Paradise Bay is ideal. (You can also see when the Gozo channel is calm for the 25 minute crossing). As the Arriva bus service has finally begun to achieve a degree of credibility in Malta then guests can use this service to explore the island (cheaply) and know they have a relative haven of comfort to return to. You will not be pressured into Timeshare here! The entertainment (as usual in Malta) is adequate but within a short bus journey the villages of Mellieha and St Pauls Bay are easily accessible with regular bus returns until 11pm. (Don't trust the last scheduled bus to turn up and avoid white taxis). From this base many parts of 'hidden Malta' can be found and the location ia an ideal base for walkers. There are a good few beaches nearby (BIg and Little Armier, Golden Bay, Ghaan Tuffieha, Gnejna, Ghadira and Mellieha Bay) offering a diverse range of activities and scenery. The hotel does have a few polystyrene tiles remaining (so does half of Malta) but in general the standard is high. Check out the area first on the web to ensure that it suits you and if so you will not be disappointed. I noticed that (particularly on Sundays) a lot of Maltese and their families go for a midday meal. There is also a high degree of return visitors. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Standard seaview. In winter facing Paradise Bay, in summer facing the Gozo channel

I stayed in this hotel last summer and beleive me when I say it was the worse experience ever. The room was very very very old fashioned with the furniture being very old and ugly and sprayed with a beige paint which I would never ever expect to find in a 1 star hotel, let alone in a 4 star hotel. It was very hot and during night time the air conditioner was not working, i called the reception and they told me that at night time they switch them off. I complained in the morning and than was told another version that it was not true that the ac is turned off during night time but that I had problems in mine. Still the next night the ac was not working and I had to borrow a fan from a friend who lives close by.

The breakfast was decent but the restaurant tables were scary......not all of them, but some were just very old and rusty and they weren't even covered.

The only positive thing about this hotel is the large pool areas which I admit is very nice.

About cleanliness it was very bad too.

I than complained again, and honestly I never complained in a hotel before because I'm not that complicated, and the manager gave me a complimentary weekend break which had to be used till December, and was promised a nice room. I called several times to book this weekend supposidly in a nice room, but i was constantly told that the hotel is fully booked. I also explained to the reservations that the voucher will expire if I will not use it till December, but still the lady kept telling me that the hotel is overbooked. So i didnt get to use the complimentary stay.

I really would like the tourism ministry to check into this hotel because its an embarrasment to Malta and to the other 4 star hotels.

We thank you for your comments on Trip Advisors and agree with your comments in relation to the hotels facilities; however your overriding opinion is yours. The hotel does have a South Wing that offers 14% of our rooms as economy / budget rooms to our guests. These rooms are dated in comparison to the standard rooms within the hotel but they do still offer the same facilities of our other rooms.

The air condition is a central system that runs throughout the 276 guest rooms and public areas and is controlled individually by each rooms blower and by the hotel, the warmer the weather the more chillers are switched on and for longer periods to supply the services to the hotel. Had your room not had been cooling at all then it would have been a problem with your blowers in the room to which maintenance would have seen to, these are air conditioning units in your room, not chillers.

I am sorry that certain elements were not to your satisfaction and that you had to bring it to the attention of the management to which we apologised for at that time and you accepted a complementary voucher, this not being able to be used within 6 months I am sorry to hear as there were many periods where we had vacant rooms available, when you were informed that the hotel was fully booked on a certain period you should have asked for an alternate date to which we could cater for. I further wish to inform you that representatives of the Malta Tourism Authority do check our establishment quite regularly and that we do meet the standards that are set to us.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 28 nights in Jan / Feb for the second time. As before everything was perfect. We found that the staff were extremely helpful and polite. We had a couple of small issues and they were sorted straight away. Although the hotel is at the north of the island busses pass the hotel regularly. You can purchase a weekly ticket priced 12 euros and you can travel any bus anytime as often as you like for that. The food at the hotel is very good and plentiful with a good choices. We will be going again next year, hopefully.

Room Tip: Must have a bay view room in the winter months as they face south for the sun

Local tomatoes - next to the Gozo ferry .Good selection of music /Great choice of tv progs. Only drawback god distance from a local pub - Ideal for honeymoon.

First visit to Malta & Paradise Bay Hotel. Had budget room in the South Wing. Decor was in line with what we paid and had sea view (plus the car park). Nice quiet area of the hotel. Service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. When any faults were reported they were attended to almost immediately. All the staff were very helpful, spoke fluent English and (contrary to some reviews) had plenty of smiles! Evening entertainment was good and varied. No local bars or clubs nearby. Very large indoor pool. No changing rooms but robes available for hire, if you preferred to change back in your room. Very wide range of food at breakfast and evening meals. Choice on every course plus a vegetarian option. Loved the soups and tasty meat. Hotel in ideal position for ferry to Gozo and for local buses. At far northern point so about an hour or so by bus to south of the island. Buses cheap, on time & frequent. All round great value for money holiday. We'll be back!!

Room Tip: South wing economy rooms. Comfortable, quiet and value for money.
