“Staff seriously need retraining”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

ok so it's an old hotel, that's not the problem because it's well kept maintenance wise. The real problem is the staff, who need some serious training. House keeping skimp over the room leaving blatantly obvious problems uncleaned, such as the hair stuck to the bathroom tiles that was there when we arrived and still there when leaving a week later. Bulbs blown in the room, it's pretty obvious and housekeeping should report such things, not ignore it.
Being an equipment salesman for Hotels I have stayed in hundreds over the years, and breakfast is always my favorite part, but not here, the choice was truly awful, using poor quality ingredients. It changed slightly each day, such as changing fried eggs for poached etc, or replacing bacon with fried potato?, no imagination whatsoever.

We tried the indoor pool, which has NO changing area, just toilets. They have a type of fake grass around the pool which is really dirty, you certainly wouldn't want to walk on it barefoot.

There isn't really anywhere local to eat, you are pretty much stuck with the hotel food unless you get a bus or hire a car, it's poor quality and over priced. I ordered the homemade burger and chips, it was pretty obvious it was NOT a homemade burger, but a mass produced one, full of rusk. We ate in that bistro another two times, each time the waiter messed up the order.

Bar staff and waiting staff seem to grate against each other, and to bicker in front of guests is appalling, why does it matter which dept has the most cheese sandwiches??, the staff seem to think it's a matter of life or death.

I seriously couldn't wait to leave, I know some people have loved it there, but it's pretty poor, and the staff really let it down. I can't recommend it at all, spend a bit more, and get somewhere that at least has nearby restaurants, just incase you don't like the food.

Room Tip: to get a good room.... book at another hotel.

Do not take any notice of the negative comments about the Paradise Bay Hotel. This is a comfortable 4* very clean, nice Hotel! Although an old Hotel, it is kept in a good condition and is being re-furbished. Perfect location, next to the ferry to Gozo and in front of 2 perfect diving locations. The staff were always really friendly and helpful and will sort out any problems you may encounter. I booked an economy room with sea views and on arrival was given economy room with bay views, EXCELLENT! the room was cleaned everyday and bedding was changed regularly, it was a really good value for money. I stayed on a half board basis and the choice and quality of food at breakfast and Dinner was excellent.
Although the hotel is in an isolated position which is clearly stated in the brochures, the local bus service is more than adequate. The cost of a 7 day bus ticket is 12 Euros which allows you to travel on any bus all day with the bus stop directly outside of the Hotel, there is also a day return ticket costing 2.60 Euros. Both tickets will take you to anywhere on the island.
People have suggested that paying for the WiFi is a bit much, but I found it to be a reasonable price. If all you need to do is send /check emails or just search for things to do whilst on the islands then the wifi is free in the reception area, so you can surf the net and enjoy a drink.
The indoor swimming pool is heated salt water with plenty of loungers around it. The outdoor pools are also sea water filled but I did not use these ( a bit cold this time of year).
All I can say is …. Thank you for the nice stay and I will be back soon!!!

I am not one to complain but i feel this all needs to be mentioned for the customers sake very very unhappy with the treated i received!!!!I stayed at Hilton prior to this hotel-how does this hotel deserve a 4 star rating this is ridiculous....very misleading website - only good thing about this hotel is the view and grounds, why do the higher floors receive a more modern lift yet the lower levels have to walk a bit to even get the lift which is like an old service elevator...

....the lower economy levels (rooms) look like steerage rooms from the Titanic 3rd class customers only in these rooms, yes i know you get what you pay for but the website is very misleading to the customer-sink or swim, personally i would like to swim, the tv in the rooms was like one i had thrown out around 20 years ago and on the website are cleverly hidden behind a vase with flowers -there are no flowers in the rooms also the bed frames look like a bad diy job with dated mattresses, room decor is dated, bits of paint missing off units frames walls, toilet doesn't flush very well and bathroom is dated, unable to get bath after 10.30pm as no hot water, the list goes on....maids don't clean the rooms correctly-dirty floors for days, maids forget to replace toilet rolls, left dirty cups etc.... also outside the lift were numerous used glasses, which were just left there, corridor carpets tatty honestly the rooms only deserve a 2 star rating-stayed in lower class hotels elsewhere which provide a service they advertise.

Breakfast-full english i say not....bacon every other day,hot dog style sausages, orange juice watery,no teaspoons, limited variety!!!!!!! again website is misleading....

Staff in restaurant were hospitable also the food was good but at breakfast not so good.....

I will stay in a Hotel that deserves my custom next time e.g The Hilton or Valentino-these don't mislead the customer and fully deserve their star ratings.....

Come on Management/Owners you need to up your gain-stop false advertising(very cleverly photographed roomsand to all customers who stay in economy you will get a very basic dated room at the most.Pictures i have taken show exactly what you will get if you book a lower level room.

Room Tip: book a real 4 star hotel like the valentino....

I thank you for your response on Trip Advisor to which I must respond accordingly. It is not appropriate to compare the 5 Star Hilton Hotel (business class) with our 4 Star tourist class hotel, this is ridiculous. All lifts in our hotel go to all floors and not just our new lift to the 4th floor inferring the our higher floors have superior rooms as all of our standard rooms are on all floors, the budget rooms are located in the south wing of the hotel.
These discounted rooms are sought after by many clients who are on budget, they are dated in their appearance but they offer the same facilities as with all rooms in the hotel and the room service is the same. You have stated that you found the budget rooms not to meet your satisfaction, yes you did mention the defect of the spring in mattress to which it was disposed of but I have no other record of any other dissatisfaction whilst you were in house to which we may have been in a position to rectify an issue as we do strive to operate with a correct standard of service in all department irrespective of the room type booked.

Two economy rooms booked for the Christmas week. It would be fair to say that you get what you pay for and this hotels economy rooms rooms were old, scruffy and extremely disappointing. We are regular travellers and have stayed in accomadation ranging from a yurt to 5 star city hotels. The four star rating that this hotel boasts must have been awarded for the range of facilities on offer and not for what they actually are. If you like to use plastic stirrers for your morning coffee, walk on stained dirty carpets to your room, watch various members of staff sit on the fountain walls smoking, need muscles like Hercules to open your patio doors, have sheets too small for the beds, sleep on non existent mattresses, have flat boards for bed bases, drink various flavours of squash as juice for your breakfast, play tennis on courts where the ball disappears in the vegatation growing inside the court, watch the most fourth rate entertainment program, drink in a hospital waiting room bar served by disgruntled and miserable barman, pay extortianate prices for WIFI, send your children to the play room with broken pool tables, watch the cleaners throw the bed together and wipe round the bits that show with dirty cloth cloths and dirty water, be told by the general manager that you have booked economy and thats what you get, then book this hotel and get in the words of the management 'what you paid for'. PS- it is possible to 'upgrade' at a cost of 20 euro per person per day but probably better to have booked another hotel in the first place.

I thank this client for stating "you get what you pay for" we offer some rooms that have not been refurbished to the clients who wish to obtain economy rooms and yet still have the use of the hotel facilities. These rooms are not our standard rooms or junior suites but they offer a base for the tourist who wants a room on a budget, they have the same fixtures as all the rooms but are dated in their appearance, our standard rooms are large and modern. It is unfortunately the case that when one is dissatisfied then one exaggerates other contents, if the beds have a soft mattress ask for it to be changed, the sheets on the beds should have been the correct size and not small neither were mentioned whilst in house. Entertainment is an individual matter as we all have different tastes, some 400 plus guests were in the main satisfied. I am sorry but the bar prices and Wi Fi are not expensive Euro 1.85 for a beer and Euro 3 for 100 minutes (no time bar). Yes should a client wish to upgrade then there is a charge.

Enjoyed our two week half board stay in a superior sea view room.

The hotel was very clean, staff were friendly and food very good. The hotel facilities kept us entertained when it was wet and windy. Good location for travelling to Gozo.

Stayed in April 2012 (only just got round to reviewing!)

Booked a superior dbl seaview room, were given a Twin room (for a young couple not ideal :s) that looked far from "superior" i dread to think what the standard rooms looked like- with a view of diggers and concrete, workmen, flashing cones, anything but the sea!!!

Asked to move and were told it would be a charge (an extra £100 odd quid) to move to the other side of the hotel overlooking the pool (the hotel was dead- it was before summer season so they had spare rooms!) the only free room we could move to was above the main entrance to the hotel, still could see the diggers they were now just a bit further away. Reception woman was so rude, only one smiley friendly girl but didnt speak any english so couldnt really explain anything to her.

Main pool was empty, the other outside pool was empty, the only pools usable was the childrens pool and the indoor one which had a funny smell to it, was full of kids (as the outside one was too cold) and pretty dirty.

The shop and bar outside the hotel were closed as it was April. Only place to eat was the hotel restaurant which had a very limited menu. Pasta or something with chip. I had fish and it was like something you'd give a child! My partner had the pasta, and whilst he got alot for his money, was sick all through the night.

We had to rent a car on the second day just to get out of this hell hole- there was nothing to do at this time of year around the resort, Private beach was shut also.

Evening entertainment was absolutly terrible, wouldnt even call it entertainment.

The only good thing this hotel provided was the breakfast- such a big choice of food (however cutlery was dirty and had to ask several times for it to be cleaned)

Sent a complaint as soon as we returned, have tried to contact through the company we booked also and not heard anything back.

This was far from Paradise. I sincerely hope this hotel has improved and that all the roadworks are complete, since our stay in April- would hate for anyone to have the experience we did.

Room Tip: If the roadworks are complete im sure the ones facing the sea are fine, however i would pay the extr...

You did book a standard sea view room and all markets have twin rooms, doubles are allocated on request and against availability. Your wish to have a south facing bay view room does have a surcharge as you have stated but alas you did not wish to pay, it was your choice. All standard rooms are fitted to the same concept and are of a good standard.

Our reception staff do converse in six or seven languages and all do speak English, I am sorry to hear that you apparently had met some dissatisfaction. All pools and public areas are cleaned daily as we operate to a good standard. Our Bistro Menu is varied with grills, pasta, pizzas, salads and many other items so I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations in so many ways, and yet I have no record of any dissatisfaction from you whilst you were in house.
