Paradise Bay Resort Hotel
Ranked #11 of 12 Hotels in Mellieha
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Do not take any notice of the negative comments about the Paradise Bay Hotel. This is a comfortable 4* Hotel. Chose a standard room preferably on Floor 3 in the main Hotel and you will not have any problem. The Staff are pleasant and helpful and will sort out any problem.
Although the hotel is in an isolated position the local bus service is more than adequate. The cost of a 7 day bus ticket is 12 euro which allows you to travel on any bus all day with the bus stop directly outside of the Hotel.
We stayed on a half board basis and the choice and quality of food at breakfast and Dinner was Excellent.
The indoor swimming pool is heated salt water with plenty of loungers around it.
Entertainment is provided each evening but it is a bit mediocre.
All in all we had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. And do not forget Malta is Malta.

Room Tip: Choose a room on 3rd floor with seaview (309)

Had to wait over two hours before being allowed into my room, which was by far the worst 4* rated hotel room i have ever seen. I had single occupancy and being my first experience of going on holiday alone was too timid to make a complaint. There were ants in my room, a cockroach in the bath, foul smelling drains, bathroom windows that wouldn't open and a very depressing institutionalised old yellow painted bed, wardrobes and units. My room saw early morning sunshine then shade for the remainder of the day. After my first night I found that I had several insect bites over my body. I stripped the bed covers off to investigate the cause and Once pillowcases were removed dirty sweat stained pillows were exposed. Even the corridors to the 'annex' where British Holidaymakers were housed were covered in old worn carpet. Never again!!!!!

Room Tip: Learn to speak German and be bold!!

Dear Madame,

The clients remarks; having to wait for two hours for your room to be allocated is so, if the flight time chosen means you arrive early this would be so, the room was allocate 1 hour in advance of check-in time. Whilst being too timid to complain in house the internet seems to bar all timidity.
Ants and other insects in the rooms are normally encouraged via foods such as sugar and if reported we would spray. I have just inspected the room allocated and all drains have U bends to stop foul smells arising and there are no bad smells in this room. The bathroom window does open very easily, one must unclick the lock on the handle. The lack of sun in the room was due to the booking of an economy room if a standard bay view room is booked you would have sunshine from early morning to the sun goes down. The pillows having slight yellow stains are so we are in a hot climate, hence the pillow cases on the pillows, they are also laundered regularly as required.
U.K. residents are not solely accommodated in the south wing which are all economy rooms it depends on what grade off room is booked by the client and when one compares a standard room to that of an economy room there is big difference, hence the budget rate charged for economy rooms. We have 276 rooms and run with some 600 clients and have a contract for 150 to 200 Germans at any one time so they are not the majority of clients, the British are.

Malcolm Howe

We arrived at 2.30 in the morning with 2 very sleepy kids and was allocated an economny seaview room that seemed to come with something thrown in for free, a family of huge ants living under the fridge, the room looked like it had not been touched since the 70's....seriously, so the next day we decided to pay the 135euro to move to a more modern, cleaner room which was a lot better. The staff were mainly civil apart from a few who really could'nt be bothered answering any questions we had,the guys in the bar were nice, and the young lad at the beach bar was so helpful so he deserves a mention.Food was mainly ok.We had a BIG problem with our lock on the door, our keycard kept on failing to let us in,we came back from the beach one day and our door had been left ajar, and eventually the whole lock had to be changed, but the worst was that some of our clothes went missing and when we reported it to reception the lady/miseryguts who delt with it just rolled her eyes, shook her head and said i dont think so sir, then they suggested we had lost the clothes,a guy called stefan was supposed to be coming to see us but he sent his messenger instead (I hope this guy was not any kind of manager because his customer service skills SUCK and i didnt even meet him.)so all in all we made the best of a crap situation, the hotel is in a great place for the ferry to gozo, the buses on malta are great and cheap, the weather was beautiful and the pools at the hotel are very relaxing and great for the kids, but there is nothing at all around and about the hotel apart from a really great little cafe at the bus station. Would we go back to malta................No.

Well, Paradise Bay have done it again for us, given us a fantastic relaxing break. We return to Paradise Bay hotel each November for three weeks, very reasonable prices for a great hotel, with a lovely atmosphere, great service, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, food is great, a wide variety to choose from, always a full salad bar, always fish available, great puddings! including cheesecake and apple crumbles! Also a well stocked shop with everything one could want on holiday. We always opt to book a 'bay view room' but know people who prefer the 'sea view side' which is the side where the Gozo ferries come and go. Hair driers, iron, ironing board, fridge, all available at no extra charge. The double rooms are exceptionally spacious and comfortable. Single rooms I believe are smaller of course. Rooms are cleaned every day, fresh towels every day. Three pools to choose from, indoor and outdoor. The hotel is away from hustle and bustle. However, bus stop is situated right outside the hotel, there is a very regular bus service and one can reach any part of the island, including the capital, very easily. 2.60 Euros buys a return ticket to anywhere on the island, and one is able to use that ticket to hop on and off any bus during that day, at anytime. We return again and again to what we feel is the little bit of paradise we have found in this crazy world.

Room Tip: Our preference is for a 'bay view room' these rooms are excellent, completely modern, spac...

returned yesterday from a weeks break at this hotel, only wished we'd booked for longer was what we said all week. a quiet location with this hotel being set on it's own and really good value fof money. we stayed in budget rooms with a sea view, but for budget rooms they were very pleasing with good draw space and a good size bathroom which was very clean. staff were pleasant particulary with my friend and a gluten free diet was catered for ,except she got tired of jellies for a sweet as she can only tolerate certain foods . food we thought was really good with a wide variety , an help yourself dining area which is huge and very pleasing to the eye due to it's layout was always kept running smoothly by the many staff romoving any used plates etc: i would recommend this hotel especially for it has 3 pools and an indoor pool which again was well looked after and roomy.i couldn't understand though when a couple of guests were complaining of toilet paper being of poor quality, get a life people and appriciate what the hotel does have, like a bus stop across the road along with the ferry to gozo and another stop outside and excellant value for money.a full 4 star hotel it may not be but it comes pretty close on my book but then again i didnt expect the full monty for what we paid. buses quite frequent and a hop on hop off fare is 2.60euros the ferry to gozo is just over 4 euros return if you board on foot and you can travel on the arriva bus service with the same price tag on gozo. weather was comfortably warm and we only wore light clothing so take in this lovely island, steeped in history with the paradise hotel being in a position away from the crowds , if its lots of company you want then thats only a bus ride away but you can have the best of both worlds if you take on board the comments of travellers views on trip adviser. roll on i will be going back for longer next time too.

Room Tip: we had room no: 397 but all rooms have the bonus of sea or bay view due to the build of this hotel m...

.This was our second visit to the hotel, the last was three years ago. When we visited three years ago we were allocated a room in a new extension ,the room and the furniture were of a high standard and i made a request for a room in the fourth floor extension at the time of my booking however we were given a room in the original build and it was certainly not the standard expected of a four star hotel. The furniture and fittings were old and tatty. The TV was a small portable one which was dusty and had parts missing, we have thrown TV in better condition !!!!
The air on was not working well. However the room did have a fan, so that helped
In all other 4star hotels we would expect to have the bed linen changed at least once during a weeks stay but this did not happen. The cleaner left us without towels on two occasions. The quality of the towels and bed linen was poor, the sheets were faded and thin, the towels were grey not white
We were provided with coffee and tea sachets for one drink each, after which time we were expected to pay for additional supplies. The same applied to the shower gel and soap in the bathroom. The supermarket on site was not stocked well, very little options for soft drinks , it looked as if it was about to close down.
The swimming pools were fine. The indoor pool had a jacuzzi but again there was a charge to use this......not acceptable. The sauna was locked at all times, you needed a card from reception to access this area
The dining room was satisfactory but some staff were unfriendly. The breakfast was basic, but okay.
We would not return to this hotel unless it was refurbished to that of a 4star standard......lots of work to do.

Room Tip: Rooms on the fourth floor are new rooms, better standard, we requested a room on this floor but didn...
