I'm not sure I stayed in the same hotel as other reviewers! The Mellieha Bay is in a great location and it is good for a cheap and relatively cheerful holiday but...

Room cleanliness: I believe that I picked up as much as the housekeeper's long black hair each day as she did my short brown. Also, I had to ask reception (not the friendliest bunch) 4 days out of the 7 I was there for a bath mat. It may sound picky, but I've never had these problems before, and I don't take expensive holidays.

Child friendly: from some reviews, I expected a more mature client base. This was not the case in the week after Easter; there were plenty of children. (An observation, not a complaint.)

Food & diningroom: I was on half board, and the food was adequate for what I paid. (Damning by faint praise...) It seems like the diningroom refurb had been completed, but I would say they need to rethink how they use their staff. Drinks service there was fine, but staff spent a lot of time drying cutlery and glasses (surely there are machines for this), leaving tables uncleared for long periods of time. Also, there were sometimes long waits to be seated after 7:30pm.

Room tip: yes, all the rooms face the bay, but be aware that if you book through Thomsons and don't like to be a passive smoker, you must pay their balcony supplement. Otherwise, you will end up on the ground floor, and especially in B block you are very near the smokers' gathering plces outside the diningroom and bars. And...if you want the blocks (D & E) on the "far side" of the hotel with much nicer grounds and are going with Thomson, you apparently have to sign a waiver but can get them. I would certainly recommend checking this out; they haven't been refurbed yet, but the whole feel of that part of the hotel is nicer.

Would I go back? If there was acheap deal going and I could be guaranteed a room in the block of my choice, possibly.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the bay, but be aware that if you book through Thomsons and don't like to be...

This hotel is situated near the bay in a quiet location but not too far from mellieha itself, a bus, car or taxi drive away. The staff are friendly, the rooms a bit dated but clean and tidy. There is a private small beach type area very close to the hotel. The bay is very pretty at night

I chose this island & hotel as a last minute get away to try out my new hobby, scuba diving.

WOW! What a find.....

Hotel = fantastic, clean, fun & placed beautifully overlooking the bay.... There is an improvement programme underway, so expect some works, although this in no way affected my holiday, it is so well controlled & if the new look is anything to go by it'll be brilliant when it's completed, very contemporary.

Food = among the best I've ever eaten, Superb with great choice...

Staff = extremely courteous & professional, many thanks Danko, Joseph, Paul, Mario(s), and all the staff in the dining room & bar, you are a credit to the hotel....

Scuba school on the premises, thanks AquaVentureMalta Lee, Paul & Ian.....

Would I stay again - HELL YEAH!

And so should you...

We had 3 nights half board at the Mellieha bay Hotel on our way back from time in Gozo. This was a last minute, cheap stay thro 'On the Beach'. It was fantastic! The room was well kept and clean. The facilities great - 2 great outdoor pools, one indoor and a lovely stretch of sand just down from the hotel gardens - all beautifully kept. The food was fresh, varied and plentiful. Although there were plenty of guests (Easter hols), it didn't feel packed or under pressure, very laid back and calm. But the big plus for us was the staff. Really friendly and helpful - definitely the right people in the right job! And we know that rude or indifferent staff can ruin a holiday...... We didn't expect a lot and got everything!
We'll definitely be back. Thank you!

Room Tip: We always have a top floor room. It was good because all the rooms face the bay and have good views...

Stayed here 4 nights in april. The restaurant is fantastic, food superb, dining room sparkling clean and new. Full buffet ....great. The rooms are great as well. The hotel is arranged away from road against hillside so every room has sea view. The staff were friendly and helpful. Pool area and seafront area lovely...all in all....excellent hotel

May be good when all the refurb and building work is done, because of closed areas in the hotel everywhere was overcrowded. The bus service on the island is very cheap and made exploring a real pleasure.

I know this is a little late as we went in June last year for a family wedding. The age range of our party was from 6- 71 and we all had an amazing time.

The hotel is in a beautiful spot on the island and is just a stroll away from the only sandy beach in Malta. The beach is great for children to as it is shallow for quite away out. The bus stop is by the hotel and for a couple of euros you can pretty much get to any part of the island.

The hotel was clean and rooms were a good size and everything you would need for your stay. No it dose not have a kettle in the room so if you like tea/coffee in your room then take one with you. The food was great, lots to choose from, even with a very fussy eater and two children in tow! The staff are amazing and work very hard. Also very good with the children making funny jokes at the bar to asking if there would like something else to be cooked for the in the restaurant. Some people have said that staff are rude and not helpful. Really did not see anything like this happen to anyone while we were here, they made everyone feel welcome and relaxed just as you should on holiday. We all loved this place and are going back this year and will use it every time we go.

Room Tip: When booking do not pay extra for a sea view as they all have one.
