My friend, her father and I stayed at this hotel from 23 August to 03 Sept 2013 - whilst we found the hotel to be generally clean, the place was swarming with wasps; you couldn't sit at the pool or the beach area for them. Plus at the pool you couldn't swim if you wanted to for children jumping in on top of you and scuba divers swimming below you! Pool was far too small for the size of the hotel.

What can I say about the food - was ok, apart from the flies!! Definitely not ALL INCLUSIVE either only snacks you got were a packet of crisps; plus at the pool area the people at the bar looked at you as if you were stealing when you went into the fridge to get water or an ice lolly!

Beautiful location but too far away from anything. An additional recommendation DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use the City Sightseeing Malta bus from the hotel. Although you get the open top bus on the way into Valetta, on the way back you are piled into a small minibus with no air conditioning!

I have never written a trip advisor review before but this holiday was so bad I felt I had to warn other travellers - don't pay the amount of money that Thomson's Holidays take for a week at this hotel over £2000 for 3 of us - just not worth it!

Room Tip: Do not pay the extra that Thomson's charge for a sea view - only plus about this hotel is that a...

Have just returned today and have to say we were so disappointed with this hotel.
It was dirty, tatty, understaffed and should in our opinion be rated at a 2 T Hotel.
The food was of very poor quality, lukewarm or cold. Badly bruised fruit, tinned fruit salad and flies swarming all over the melon. Tired salads and dirty restaurant conditions.
The towels in the bathroom had rust stains and holes in them and were nearly threadbare.
We had no hot water for three days and rust was coming out of the taps.
Our bedroom had an adjoining door which was not soundproofed at all so we could hear
all the next room's conversations and more...
Toilets in reception and pool areas dirty and smelly.
Pool furniture old, shabby and uncomfortable. We also had to take our own towels as
they were none available. Corridors and communal floor areas very dirty.
Staff worked very hard in this hotel, they obviously are working under great pressure.
Views were lovely but we paid for a 4T hotel and did not receive this standard.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

We have just returned from a week's holiday staying at the Mellieha Bay Hotel. The location of the hotel is what makes this a 'gem'. Set in its own private grounds far from the main road the hotel boasts its own sandy beach, pools, sundeck areas with plenty of loungers/parasols, beach bar, dive/watersports shop (Aquaventure, with whom I dived), garden areas and stunning views across the bay. The staff are friendly, approachable and informative. The only people around are the guests at the hotel. The food is some of the best we have experienced for mass catering and caters for the English pallette. There is a high proportion of English guests here and we met several who return year after year. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to all inclusive basis for the best experience. All the rooms are Sea facing rooms so don't get conned into paying extra for a sea view! There is a more expensive hotel (Sea Bank) in the Bay but its location right next to a dual carriageway cannot begin to compare with the Mellieha Bay Hotel. Staying at the Sea Bank you have to cross this dual carriageway to get to the beach.
Mellieha Bay itself is just a short drive or bus journey (I'm talking less than ten minutes here)
from the ferry port for Gozo and Comino so makes an ideal base from which to explore these sister islands. The Blue Lagoon on Comino has to be seen to be believed. Check out images on the Internet.

Overall then if you are considering the Bay of Mellieha for your Malta holiday I would highly recommend the Mellieha Bay Hotel - you won't regret it!

I am staying at Mellieha Bay Hotel until tomorrow for departure home. The hotel is a little tired, and does need some attention here and there, and if I am honest, this is not to the standard of other Thomson 4 star hotels, more like 3 star. Having said that, and that is the negative out of the way, the hotel is mainly very clean, but it is the staff who really make this place, everyone is so friendly and helpful, nothing seems to much trouble. The grounds of this hotel are landscaped, and look stunning, everyday I seem to spot something new or different! The food here is amazing, always a good selection, and always something for all tastes! The evening entertainment is always of a standard, but the best nights seem to be when the video DJ's are on, they do seem to create a good atmosphere, and they always seem to get people up and dancing, I think one of them is called Michael! Overall though this was a good place to stay, it's private beach is wonderful and there really is very little to complain about.

Having read the negative reviews on here, I was apprehensive about what Mellieha Bay Hotel would be like, but I would recommend disregarding these reviews as I thought the hotel was lovely. We stayed all inclusive, which I would definitely recommend as it means you can get drinks throughout the day and meals/snacks too, it's definitely worth it.

The hotel was great and the staff were nice and friendly. It had a lobby area where you could chill out with a drink on the chairs/sofas with a TV showing sports/news etc and plenty of leaflets of the various attractions. We stayed in a superior room which was lovely (a bit like premier inn style), and all rooms had a balcony which overlooked the sea. The rooms were cleaned daily. The only thing I would say is that I believe all the rooms are twins rather than doubles, so although you can push the beds together it's not quite the same. Otherwise I had no problems with the room.

The gardens were beautiful and well maintained. They also had pools which were very popular, although we did not use these in our stay. All meals were provided as a buffet and there was a good range of food available.

The location itself is great as it's only a 5/10 minute walk to the nearest bus stop (which is also right next to the beach) and the buses run regularly across the island (although they can be quite busy!). The bus prices are good, $2.60 for a day ticket or you can spend $12 for a 7 day ticket, and these are valid across all of the buses. You're close to the beach (plus it has its own private beach and rockery area too), not far from Mellieha village and it's in an ideal location for both popeye village (7 mins away on the bus) and the ferry port for Gozo (15 mins on the bus).

I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a superior room if possible as these have been refurbed

I have recently stayed at the hotel on the first floor in a superior room, I am very impressed with the hotel, every morning you could see the cleaners going in and out of the rooms and they were very friendly. The meals were fantastic and so were the staff. The grounds were well maintained. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Pick a Superior room in the check out options. All rooms have a sea view so if booking through a thi...

Just back from my stay at the mellieha. The weather was fabulous, the views over the bay were breath taking . The food was good and provided a separate vegetarian menu for me if needed. The entertainment was fab though some of the acts did go on a bit. All the staff were pleasant apart from one on reception who was grumpy with me when I complained about the room.
It was tired and dated. It wasn't cleaned properly when we arrived and they promised to send the cleaner back tho she never came, (in fact it was never cleaned properly whilst we were there). Mould in between the bathroom tiles. The chrome work was rusty in the bathroom.
The dining room was also another area which wasn't cleaned properly, food splash marks on the walls, under the tables were filthy. Table cloths with stains on.
I'm sure it was the dirt that attracted the flies and Blimey there were loads of the pesky things. The bar area had a musty smell to it, which was off putting.
Can't comment on the pools as stayed and sun bathed on the rocks, which was nice and peaceful. Partner loved to snorkel. The surrounding gardens were very lovely and well kept.
All in all, had a great time at the Mellieha, just needs the rooms up dating, (like some of them already have) and cleanliness needs really attending to as these really do let the hotel down.
