We had connecting rooms for us and our three young girls. The rooms are small and the beds aren't the best but they are very clean with friendly and obliging housekeeping. There are two pools and the one next to the playground is fantastic for families: a toddler pool, a 1m deep pool with goals and a larger pool attached which varies in depth. The playground is fairly basic and most of the time it is too hot to play here but our 2 and 6 year old had fun there aåearly in the morning before it got too hot. Most of the patrons were more grandparent age than families with small kids but this didn't matter at all as the children received all smiles and compliments. The food is varying and very good. Buffets are so easy with children. I would absolutely recommend this hotel for families.
PS my husband was disappointed with the gym

The hotel is situated in a quiet and beautiful place, amazing views from room window. 2 outside pools, 1 inside. Many bars. The best thing about the hotel is that it has a sandy beach, as well as a rocky. Sunbeds are free, just you must have your own towels. And the beach is right outside the hotel. The hotel is also near to the ferry terminal, if you want to travel to Gozo. Food in the hotel restaurant is delicious!! It has a very wide selection and everything is very tasty! Rooms are very nice. Hotel offers many interesting activities. Ideal place for holidays for the whole family!! I really recommend this hotel! :)

Just returned from a week at Mellieha Bay Hotel. We paid for a high room, and the views were stunning. The pool was lovely, loungers clean. Extremely friendly and helpful staff both on reception, in the bars and the holiday rep. My Mother became ill (not hotel related) and the reception had a doctor with us within 30 mins. The holiday rep also with no request arranged special assistance for the return flight at the airports for which we were very grateful. The rooms were perfectly fine. There are quite a few stairs so maybe not so good for people who have mobility challenges, but otherwise fine. The private beach and gardens (very relaxing and shady when hot), are an added plus as well as the watersports availability. We paraglided, kayaked, had a cruise to Comina which involved as an extra a highly recommended speed boat ride (awesome) and a fantastic swim in the blue lagoon. Entertainment was as expected, not West End level, but fine for holiday in all inclusive.
My only negatives would be that the shop is not open regular hours but a bit random, and a cash machine in reception may be an improvement, but all in all, really recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose one on a high floor to get full advantage of the stunning views.

My wife and our two children (aged 6 and 9) stayed here from 28/05/13 to 11/06/13, a stay of 2 weeks having flown from Exeter.
We have stayed in this resort in this hotel before about 5 years ago, so we knew what we were getting which is a good start.
The first thing we noticed when we arrived, particularly given it was late at night, was that the rooms had been refurbished and were really lovely.
Also given the age of our children, we were in a family room which had a double bed and bunk beds for the them.
The Hotel as ever was lovely, the staff couldn't be more helpful, the facilities including the pools, the bars, and the lounge were brilliant. Now to the food and drink.
Well this isn't where we run it down, no, as in fact the food is great too, and personally I'm a bit fussy about food, as were our children, but every morning and every night (as we were half board) there was always plenty of beautiful tasting food available. Breakfast was always our favourite meal here, as you'll see why when you stay, but I always started with coffee, juice, lovely yoghurt, and then a large cooked breakfast!!!!!
And as for the are, here's some hints and tips.

Either take the bus (any number bus) to the main Mellieha village by day for the shops, bars, restaurants, incredible Church and scenery, supermarkets etc, and by night the place takes on a completely different feel. It isn't noisy, but there's plenty going on in the way of bars, restaurants, lights etc. There is also a great supermarket at the Danish hotel complex, which is very close to the Mellieha bay hotel, and is for everyone's use.

if you fancy a walk, either walk across the bay, up to mellieha village, or half way there you'll also find some nice bars and restaurants. I would reccommed the Mexi(co) restaurant, great food and great service.
Alternatively, walk out of the hotel, turn right, and wander up to the Red Tower, as only 2 Euro's for adults, free for kids. Worth a visit.

While here, take either the 41, or 42 bus to the capital city Valletta. it is a sight to behold, and there is so much to do, if you stayed here alone for two weeks you wouldn't see it all. So much history, art culture, museums, churches etc. At 12 noon everyday there is a canon fired by the british soldiers acorss the bay at the upper barrakha gardens. Definitely go in the Grand master's palace, and definitely definitely go into St John's Cathedral, as in there you'll see Caravaggio originals on every surface of the walls and ceilings, including the original 'beheading of john' and 'jerome'. Whilst there, go to the market, take a horse and carriage ride (don't pay over 20 euro's!!!!) take the water taxi to sliema for a wander about the modern shops.
As for eating out in Valletta, eat outside at 'Café Cordina', a quite posh but lovely inexpensive outdoor restaurant, that 4 could eat and drink out at for 25-30 euro's. They also have the most amazing ice cream! As for wine, drink the local maltese wine. it's unbelievably cheap, and is quite good. We stopped at a lovely wine bar on merchant st in Valletta, wife and kids had a drink, I had a bottle of wine and bill came to 7.50 euro's! it was very hot, and yes I had a bad head after, but still very nice! haha.
If staying at the Mellieha, don't pay a fortune and take a boat ride from Sliema or Valletta, walk to the jetty in the hotel, and we paid 30 euro's for a whole day out to the Blue Lagoon near Gozo, 1 child went free, the other and us we paid for, very cheap, and an incredible day! make sure you swim off the boat in the blue lagoon, you'll never forget it I promise!!!!!!!

if you're used to 4 or 5 star hotels, then this may not be for you. It says 4 star but it isn't, but that said, we'd still go back again, like many of the people you'll meet in the hotel, some have been going there year after year, one couple 18 times, another 22 times! I kid you not.
Take a chance on this place I say, and you'll love it, as will your kids.

Oh one more thing, when you arrive, buy a bus pass for a week or 2, it'll save you a fortune! don't hire a car you'll regret it, as parking is a problem, and they drive like they're been on the meth's! have a good one.

Room Tip: We stayed in E38, on this floor instead of a balcony you get a terrace which means your outside spac...

I've read some of the critical reviews and can't believe we're talking about the same Hotel. The Hotel is well situated, South facing and all rooms appear to have a sea view across a pretty bay to Meliah itself. There is a private sandy beach and ample sunbeds there, by the pool or overlooking the sea. The rooms were clean and we received clean towels everyday even when we didn't require them. The bath was a bit "tired" but nevertheless adequate.
There was plenty of choice of food both hot and cold in the standard Mediterranean style and the staff were friendly and attentive.
The bus stop is about 200-300 metres away with frequent, cheap services to Valetta and other surrounding towns.
We enjoyed our stay and whilst not one to revisit holiday destinations, (there are so many places we would like to visit) we would definitely consider staying here should we re-visit Malta.

we have just come back from here today and rate the hotel very well, we went on a DB&B basis not all inclusive. meant we spend more but did not have to wear those awful plastic wrist bands. go for a upgrade room with a sea view, fantastic views, the food was of a high standard every day and the staff lovely. Malta was good for us this was our first visit and good research and trip advisor helped us make an excellent choice of location This is the only part with a beach and I have to say that we travelled this island a little and a lot of the other places are concrete so pleased we chose this bay it was peaceful but with plenty of water sports to keep you active if you needed it. swimming was fantastic, take your goggles so you can see the clear bottom and the fish, the trip to Comino bay is good value at 12 euro each and we swan all thought the caves and took a trip on a speed boat which was great fun. Mdina is a joy they call it silent city as no cars are allowed and the small road train takes you on a good run around so you can see where you wish to walk back to, next time we will go again at night as going back to the airport at 4.30am this morning we could see it all lit up and it looks amazing. Enjoy Malta

Room Tip: Sea view is worth the small extra views are stunning.

Just returned from this hotel after two good weeks. This hotel doesn't t pretend to be something it isn't, I felt very comfortable here. The view is amazing! The food is delicious could do with more choices of vegetables though and the beds were a bit too hard for me. The hotel is spotlessly clean the staff are friendly and cheerful. If you are half board you get a card from reception to put money on so no need for a bill. The only thing is it is not suitable for someone who needs a wheel chair and cannot walk there are steps everywhere. Also the 'nearby bus stop' was too far for my husband to walk to. We did manage to get out but found the bus drivers are rude and unhelpful and one driver pretended he didn't know where our stop was to get back to the hotel ,others put us on the wrong buses. Also didn't realise how hilly Malta is, some areas you need to be a mountain goat ... We went on the Comino boat trip ok if you are going swimming otherwise you have 3 1/2 hrs sitting on a boat waiting to go back. Would we come back. No, purely because of the access problems.
