1 week from 13th Nov 2012 -Negatives -Poor weather and a very large group of what looked like local school children staying (with teachers to oversee!!!) for most of the week.We made good use of the indoor pool (when school children who were staying were not jumping around in there). Dining room did not allow men to go in for evening meal unless wearing long trousers but again the group of school children were overlooked as some went in straight from the swimming pool wrapped in a towel. Tired decor, leaked when we had a couple of thunder storms. Pillows were useless.
Plus points - views from the hotel excellent. Bus service good value. We did not stay all inclusive, but for the extra charge it would be good value as all bottles of water, draft beers, snacks etc included. It was our first and last visit to Malta, it may be that we just went at the wrong time.

Stayed 11th till 18th december, our room was on the 3rd floor with fantastic view over the bay, you have to pay extra for a balcony room, other rooms have a terrace leading into the gardens, gardens are lovely and well kept, room was very comfy and clean, other parts of the hotel need a refurb, broken steps and the ladies toilets near reception definately need a makeover, but the hotel is clean, i found the food good and a carvery every night, and the staff very friendly, couple of grumpy ones tho in the bar.
It was a very friendly hotel and there was entertainment every night, i do have mobility problems so couldn't get down to the indoor pool or the area surrounding it as there were too many steps and no lift down, which is a shame, all in all a nice hotel, and would go back.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a higher floor

I'm on holiday here now ! If I could get home I would ! It's an absolute nightmare of a hotel. Food is cold and not appealing at all the bar staff are rude and the lager is flat and by flat there's not a single bubble in it. The so called entertainment is some bloke on a bontempi organ whos only hope of getting to the judges houses on X Factor would be by breaking in !! hes Singing to lift music which is also the same tinny cd you get in the morning and at night in the canteen as you can't call it a restraunt the hotel is also in middle of no where so you can't nip to a local bar as there isn't any I'm on All Inclusive which is a waste as I've had nothing as I felt I'll after the flat Lager no way is it 4* it's 1 at a push and that's because of the view

This was an average hotel. The best feature is the sea view view, beautiful. The room we had was ok but nothing special. Food was ok. Staff were a bit abrupt, they didn't go that extra mile. If you have mobility problems would not recommend as too many stairs. Also would not recommend for a family holiday in December/christmas period as guests are 99 percent over 65 and they did not generally want to engage with us. It might be a better hotel to visit in the summer months, but definitely not for families in the winter months.

We have just returned from a holiday at the Mellieha Bay Hotel in Malta from 13th to 20th December 2012. To truly compare or give an overview I think you must be aware of all the information. I booked independently through Travel Republic, we flew from Bristol via Ryan Air (price extra), caught the shuttle (which we paid extra for) to the hotel and paid £250 each direct to the hotel for an all inclusive week. The shuttle transfer was good and efficient, we arrived at the hotel and our room was well-appointed, magnificent views over the bay and towards Mellieha town which was lit up at night, in fact, I don't think I have ever had a better view from any hotel I have ever stayed in. The hotel itself is at the top of the island and not far from the ferry terminal to Gozo, so you have to bus it if you want to get around the island, but with daily roamer fares at 2.60 euros each for as much use as you like you can't go wrong, you soon get the hang of the busses and the stop is only a couple of hundred yards down the road. Indicate clearly that you want the bus to stop and they will stop, if you don't, they wont! The hotel grounds are lovely, the pool is great and the indoor pool is good also. Food I would say is excellent, although some people will moan about anything, but I didn't find anything to moan about at all. There is a beach just down the road, supermarket, but don't be tempted to walk to the Popeye village as we did unless you are a hardened walker, as it is a long way!!! Evening entertainment is so, so, and the staff could be a bit abrupt at times, it is not one of these new classy marble shiny floored hotels, but to conclude, we had an excellent holiday, value for money, unsurpassed views and felt we could not have made a better choice. If you are thinking of going for a break in a nice hotel I don't think you can go wrong with this one!!!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have doors straight to the outside and a small patio-ish area outside, Rooms 101-15, 201-15, 301-15 etc, are quite near all the action in the main season so would be quite noisy outside. Higher the floor the better the view.
