We stayed in the 1 bedroom apt on the 3rd floor, will sleep 4 as the lounge has sofa bed . Very spacious accommodation and large private patio with superb views over the town , remarkably peaceful location. Air con in bedroom only and large floor standing fan for lounge . Pool is above and accessible via a few steps so very handy for this apt . David the owner very helpful. Bars and restaurants are a good 10-15 minute walk away and Mellieha is quite hilly so bear this in mind ! . Bus services are excellent and plenty. We used “oh yeah” boat for trip to blue lagoon €13 , excellent value . Took 101 bus to gneja beach for €2 again excellent value , overall a fabulous apartment no 16 , area quiet and safe , pool a plus as very hot during our stay 36 - 38 degrees every day .
We have just spent a week in Apartment 8, a 3 bedroomed apartment at The Horizon Apartments. We were 2 couples and 2 teenagers and we chose the location as we were attending a wedding at The Pergola Hotel.
Location wise, as long as you are good on your feet, it is great. It is at the bottom of a big hill that you must go up to get to the shops etc.
David had a driver collect us from the airport, 50 Euro for a 6 seater (each way) who was there to greet us as we landed (well worth it). As we got to the apartment, David gave us a guided tour of the building and then took 3 of us to Bottles and Bottles and to a local supermarket, I have read once that he charges for this but he does not, I offered to pay and he wouldn't hear of it.
The apartment has almost everything you need although it does state a hair dryer and iron, we found no hair dryer and the iron was a very light weight dry travel iron (not brilliant). The towels are dated but clean, the extra bedding (quilts) could do with an upgrade.
We had a few teething problems, we couldn't work the aircon in the living room as there was no remote but the aircon in the bedrooms is amazing and does carry through, there is also a fan. The oven tripped the electrics but David popped back and sorted it and it didn't happen again.
The rooftop pool of a small size, accessible at all times, there is a BBQ but its not great, you can buy disposable BBQ's and use them as long as you look after the area and tidy up after yourself. All of the guests seemed respectful of one another and got on very well.
There is a fully working lift, the building is very clean and tidy, maybe a little dated but that is just normal for the area. The views are outstanding, absolutely beautiful.
There are a few local shops that are not too far away, Bottles and bottles have great prices and will even drop you at the apartment with your shopping if there is a lot and if they are not too busy.
As you walk up the hill to the square (About 20 minutes walk), there are restaurants and bars, a few shops and a few hotels. Food is reasonably priced, about the same as in England.
You can hire a car either directly from David (Billy's taxi and hire firm) or we found another hire company at F.V Enterprises which were also very good. You can get a Taxi up to the square which would cost you around £3 in England, it is 10 Euro there. I think 10 Euro is the minimum taxi fee. The bus service in Malta is fantastic, it is 2 Euro each for 2 hours travel to anywhere, we all went to Valletta which took a long time but the the buses have good air con and it was well worth the trip.
We watched England beat Sweden in Billy's sports bar, the atmosphere was electric, drink prices are good, they serve food in there too which looked great.
We went to The Blue Lagoon, we paid 10 Euro each return on the Paradise speedboat and had the most amazing day in one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
Our friends went to Gozo on the ferry and loved it, we went to Popeye village and it was a complete waste of money. Half of it was shut, the pools were not even a fraction of the size shown on their website, we spent 2 hours there which was mainly having a meal, the food was good but that was all, save your money.
The area was not as busy as we would have liked, but suited us for the location of the wedding.
