Check-in: Very efficient, and always done with a smile. I also like the nice touch of a glass of champagne on arrival.

Rooms: I stayed here twice. The first time in an enhanced room and the second time a lovely corner suite. The rooms are all modern and very stylish.

Location: The hotel is located on a golf course, which means there is peace and tranquility.Though Gran Canary's night-life is only a short taxi ride away.

Spa/Pool: I love the infinity pool on the top of the hotel - especially the fact that you can be in the water while sipping a cocktail. The SPA also offers great services and I have taken advantage of it on both occasions.

Overall verdict: In addition to a great infrastructure and hardware, what sets this hotel apart from its competition are its people. There was nearly two years between my stays but staff still remembered me. Guess it pays off being nice to hotel staff in the first place. So I can't wait to plan my next visit to the Sheraton La Salobre.

If you want a great place to relax then this is it. the resort is large but has an intimate feel to it. There are a variety of swimming pools to use and the sunset bar is a great place to go in the early evening. We had half board and I would thoroughly recommend this. Breakfasts catered for all tastes and the buffet meals in the evening were very good.

Just got back from the Sheraton Salobre - beautiful hotel the bedroom/bathroom was amazing, very clean, beautiful views. However, it was VERY expensive to drink etc there and it was a bit remote. There was a courtesy bus which we did use every day to go down to maspalomas where we found a very nice irish bar and good choice of restaurants. Breakfast was VERY good, lovely waiter (think he was a manager didn't get his name) but he was very pleasant and helpful. I feel that they should have a bit more going on in the evenings there - there wasn't much atmosphere and it was a bit boring. There is also a lovely walk outside the hotel - we walked every morning followed the pavement round and the views from the top of the hill were wonderful. For a nice chill out holiday with lovely weather and views it was wonderful.

Room Tip: We were on the 8th floor overlooking the golf course with views down to maspalomas.

Just returned after spending a fantastic & relaxing 6 days at the Sheraton. The resort is in good shape, but you can see elements of faded glory. The Spanish economic has had its toll in the form of chipped paint or small leak here and there - but these are mostly cosmetic. We stayed in a premier room on the 10th floor. We booked directly with the Sheraton and they gave us a good deal on a half board. In reality they are more like 4.5 stars rather than 4.

The good:
1) The resort is far away from the maddening crowds of Maspalomas and has access to 2 golf courses at its door step.
2) There are plenty of pools around the resort and you are never really far from one. The best obviously is the infinity pool with terrific views of the sunset.
3) We ate breakfast and dinner at the Gofio. The food is diverse and has a good spread. There can be queues for eggs/omelettes at Breakfast, but nothing too onerous. Evening dinners have a theme e.g. Italian, Arabian etc; they also had a couple of belly dancers one evening. They do carry a very wide spread of desserts at dinner, so save some space.
4) We had complementary use of the Spa and it was terrific.

The not so good.
1) Kids/young families.. The resort is designed for the love stuck, however, i suspect the economic situation meant that they are now trying to cater to a wider audience. There is small paddling pool on the solarium for kids. It is very small and gets unbearable in the sun as it has no protection. They also have a small childcare facility run by a lovely Spanish lady, but is only open between 11 and 3 and Tues-Sat.
2) Some have mentioned about the glass door; it can be a bit of an embarrassment if you are travelling with a young family or are not too keen to know more about your golfing buddy. However, such doors are not uncommon in Europe, but what was uncommon, was the fact that the showers did not have thermostatic control!!! So one minute you would be enjoying a hot shower, but the next minute you will be hit by a blast of cold water.
3) Internet access is a bit sketchy. Wifi is available in the room for a charge, but is very unreliable. Unless you want to do some computing, skip this and use the public internet access computers on the first floor. There can be a queue to use it, but is much better than the wifi.

Local transport
1) You generally don’t need to leave the resort, but if you are interested in golf, then there is a pro shop within the resort. However, It is better to hire the buggy from the hotel – it is 20euros and you can use it ALL day, and not just for golf.
2) Most people have already mentioned the free bus transfer between the resort & the beach hut. We found it useful during our visit to the beach

Rooms: We stayed in a premier room and is pretty spacious. They put an extra bed for the kid. The views across the golf course from the 10th floor are stunning, and you can catch the sun rise from the balcony. There is NO fridge to store anything, but there is drinks dispensing machine. The hotel also provided us with a kettle to warm the baby food. There are limited English channels on the telly, with no English kids channels like CBBC. However, our kid enjoyed watching German cartoon – even though he does not understand the language.

The best thing about the resort were the people we interacted with. From the booking team to those who work in the various restaurants and bars. They work long hours and have constant smile as they go about their work. Also the guests were mostly locals or those who have upgraded away from the ‘package holiday crowds’.

Our verdict: If you are looking to get away from the Maspalomas crowds and find some solace then Sheraton ticks all the boxes. It is tailor made for young couple as there is plenty to do. For those with young kids, it is a bit more tricky, but nothing that cannot be managed. If we are back in Gran Canaria, then Sheraton will be our top pick – even if it for just the smiling staff.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Premier rooms or rooms on the higher floor - basically as far as possible from the restaurants & pools.

Stayed here early October, the location of the hotel is amazing, snuggled into the surrounding hills and mountains, yet only 10 mins from Maspalomas, it's a beautiful looking resort. Check in was adequate, nothing to write home about, it was clinical, not overly friendly. Once checked in that's when the joy of trying to locate our room began, in what can only be described as the most confusing and annoying layout of lifts which you have to move between to get to your desired floor. It really takes a day or two to get to grips with the layout and location of lifts and which lifts go to which floors.
The rooms are spacious and spotless and the views from the balcony were fab, the bed is super king and amazingly comfortable, but the wafer thin feather pillows were just too flat offered no comfort or support, more were requested and received. The window from the shower area to the bed area won't be to everyone's taste but we found it amusing, and quirky.
The food : buffet breakfast seemed frantically paced, but the selection was fantastic, enough to fill up for the day , fresh baked goods, fruits , hot food, fab, can't fault the breakfast selection. Evening meals however were hit and miss, in the buffet resturant , some evenings, the food was first class, in taste and flavor, other evenings it was not good at all. Even eating in the other resturant ( reservations required ), it was one excellent evening where the food was super and one not up to the same standard at all.
One or two staff members stood out , were very friendly and went the extra mile to make you feel welcome. But in the main, front line staff were not very friendly, they were professional and functionally efficient, but there was a serious lack of warmth or friendliness that one would expect from a hotel of this standard.
There are good things to say about this hotel, location, views, and the building itself are lovely, the rooftop pool and sunset bar, with stunning views is to die for, perfection. The hotel is spotless I mean really really spotless. It's a relaxed environment. Its a lovely hotel, with a few niggly little issues with layout, food quality and service issues as mentioned above, but these are small issues and I would still recommend this hotel to anyone as a beautiful location for a switch off and chill out sort of holiday in Gran Canaria.
