“Great hotel in a great location! :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2011

My husband and I, our baby of 9 months and both of our parents stayed here for 2 weeks in the end of january. We all had a great time, even though the weather was cold and windy half the time! We had an apartment while our parents each had a double room. My parents lived in a double room right above our apartment which was really nice. Our apartment had a nice fully equipped kitchen where we all gathered in the morning for breakfast. The hotel's supermarked opened 7am every morning and had everything we needed, including fresh bread every day. The pool area was really nice, and the pool bar staff was really nice and funny and served great food!! We ate lunch and dinner there a few times and it had a really nice atmosphere in the evening! We never ate at the inside restaurant so I don't know what the food was like there. The location was great as you would walk down the road right on to the seaside promenade! My father has problems walking but had no problem walking both to Meloneras beach ( about 10min walk) and to the Faro lighthouse in Maspalomas (about 15 min). The promenade is beautiful and well maintained. The hotel is clean and beautiful but quite basic hence the price, so if we wanted some "cheap luxury" we just walked accross the street to the beautiful 5 star hotel Lopesan villa del conte. We went there for drinks and wached the live entertainment there one night, and had lunch there one day. The food is not much more expensive than other restaurants in the area, so I would recommend going there at least once during your stay as it is such a lovely place! However I would definitely stay at Cay beach again, as it is really nice and inexpensive. I would rather stay there and have enough money to spend on nice dinners, shoppping, sightseeing..and maybe a spa treatment at the Lopesan hotel! (although Cay beach actually has a therapist on site that offers massages and other spa treatments:).

We chose the Cay for a last minute one week break based on Tripadviser reviews. We were very pleased overall.

We stayed at the end of May/beginning of June and had our 21 year old and 13 year old with us.
We had a duplex (i.e. 2 bed) apartment.

We liked:
The modern, well maintained and very clean apartment
The space afforded by the upstairs/downstairs arrangement and private balcony
The effective aircon
The helpfulness of reception and cleaning staff
The condition of the 3 pools and associated jacuzzis
The quietness of the hotel for most of our stay (apart from 2 days - see below)
The short walk to the promenade
The quality of the local eateries
The mini market on site

We liked less:
The saltiness of the pools
Being there for a two day Canarian bank holiday made the pool area very busy with local visitors (towels reserving sun loungers from 8am etc. etc.)

Other comments:
There are several restaurants along the promenade about 10 minutes from the hotel. Leave via the back gate go straight down paved slope to the prom and turn right for 5 minutes. We tried 3 restaurants there - overall we liked Ciao-Ciao the best, but all were good.
For a busier dining scene turn left at the prom and walk for 10 minutes towards the lighthouse. Lots more to choose from here.
For late arrivals if the on site mini market is closed, there is a supermarket open till 10pm just past the Ciao-Ciao restaurant. The hotel pool bar may also be open late for snacks.

We had 3 great excursions - the yellow submarine trip (free bus pick up arranged via reception), Palmitos Park (great dolphin show), and a camel ride on the dunes.
We also had a hire car and toured the island's west coast and central pine forest. Note that the roads around Tejeda are being rebuilt/repaired and were closed so allow time for a lengthy detour.

All in all a great break based at the Cay Beach Hotel meloneras.

I stayed one week with my daughter and grandchild aged 2. We had an appartment with one bedroom for the mother and child and one sofa for me in the living room. It worked well. We pre-ordered baby cot and stroller and both were in the room when we arrived. We had a very nice appartment with ground terrace viewing the ocean (no 4031) close to the pools and reception. Pools did not open until 10:30 am, which was slightly late, they closed at 6:00 pm. The hotel has 3 pools, plus a shallow children's pool, jaccuzzy and water massage beds in separate small pools, plenty of sun beds and a fine little playground for small children. The restaurant served beakfast and buffet dinner. We tried the dinner once, but was not impressed. It was cheap though! The room service was as expected, 5 days a week. No change of bed linen during one week's stay. The cleanlyness was generally good. The Minimarket was open from 8:00am-7:00pm. The selection was limited and prices fairly high, but they got fresh bread every morning. Walking distance to the Meloneras center was about 10 minutes. In general we were very satisfied and may come back another time.

  • Liked — Quiet, family friendly, good atmosphere, nice temperature in the pool
  • Disliked — Walking distance to shopping and beaches

Just returned from a lovely week here. room was pretty basic but fine enough. clean and relatively modern. needed air conditioning fixing but once it was worked v.v.well! pools were nice, especially the one by the bar. poolside bar was lovely; fantastic food, good value and lovely staff. place was set in a good location- bout 10min walk to sandy beach which was beautiful. shop on site was pretty gud tho not the best for value. no wifi which would have been appreciated but internet facilities available. staff at reception very helpful. overall a great place; a nice place to stay on a fantastic holiday to gran canaria.

Me and my young teenage kids stayed here for a week in April 2008 and had a great holiday. Apartments are run-of-the-mill inside and could do with a wee bit of updating / decorating, but otherwise comfortable with nice outside space. Good shop on site. Pools very good and poolside bar staff very friendly. Poolside snacks good - don't recommend the food in the restaurant though - tried it twice and glad we were self-catering. Set in pretty quiet suburban area, but seafront only about 10-20 mins pleasant walk away, depending on how fit you are, where there are loads of nice restaurants to try - including italian, chinese cuisine, etc. Maspalomas centre, lighthouse and huge sandy beach only another 10-15 mins walk along the lovely seafront promenade. Good value and somewhere to stay if you don't want to be amongst the "crowd." I hired a car and we went up into the mountains but the roads were very narrow and twisty with speeding locals coming head-on around sharp bends - not for the faint-hearted, even if you are used to this sort of thing, like I am.

we booked ourselves - saved a fortune!
These apartments look stunning, really beautiful multicoloured buildings. Swimming pools, jacuzzis, crazy golf, communal areas etc, were all well kept.
There are a couple of swimming pools at the bar area of the complex, there is another near the bottom. This is a big pool. Our apartment was here. We couldnt of asked for a better room. We opened our patio and there the pool was. The complex was very quiet, our kids had the pool mainly to themselves. (especially with it being school easter hols)
We only hired downstairs, this was o.k for 8nights for our family of four, it would of been nice to have hired the whole duplex though.
The snack bar was o.k, but one morning we paid for breakfast, yuk!!! not again.
The supermarket was o.k too and there was a small games/ internet room.
The entertainment was on about half the time we were there but we didn't go , so we can't comment.
The only moan we had was the beds, In the twin room where my husband and i slept, the beds were very uncomfy. The bathroom could of done with a bit of a re-vamp.
Out of our 8 nights we got our beds changed once, on the last night! The towels were changed every 3 days, and the room cleaned 6 times.

The resort-
If you turn right at the seafront, you get to a small beach, a few places to eat and a few shops and also a shopping centre that is mainly empty.
If you turn left you have a lovely walk to the lighthouse, going past loads of places to eat, a shopping centre, a designer shopping area, a few supermarkets and then more shops inland.
This resort is the most expensive we've ever been too. English people seemed the minority in this resort. We were told it's locally called Dusseldorf, the German resort.
The 19th hole was good to eat at, and also a steakhouse in the shopping centre on the seafront.
At night the resort seems to be lacking in atmosphere. There are no English bars, nowhere to sit and have drink etc as a family. There were loads of couples listening to guitarists etc, but it wasn't family orientated. There are no facilities on the beach e.g pedaloes.
At the lighthouse is the start of Maspalomas. The sand dunes are brill. Inland is tacky and in need of doing up.
We went to Playa de Ingles' in taxi. Not to be recommended. We also went to Puerta Rico, that wasn't much better, both looked like they had seen much better days. We went to Amadores beach that was nice. (taxis are cheap)
We are going back to Puerto Mogan in October we'll see what thats like.
We had a good time overall!

  • Liked — no fight for sunbeds!
  • Disliked — the bed!

We have just returned from a week at the Cay Beach and cant wait to go back again. It far exceeded our expectations, the accomodation was very spacious although our bathroom was in need of an update as the walls had chunks out of them and there was mould around the bath and shower screen. We were at the far end of the complex and it was very quiet and peacefull. There are 3 pools and lots of sunbeds at one point there were only 7 of us around the bottom pool. There is a shop which has a wide selection and is not too expensive. As we were self catering we did not eat in the hotel and the bar was down 2 flights of stairs and was small and dark. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the town which is a short walk away. Our favourite was the Grand Italia which overlooked the sea well worth a visit. They make their own ice cream which was to die for.

Overall a great and very relaxing holiday in a good location.
