“fantastic food,service and location”
Reviewed June 23, 2009

first time in gran canaria & couldn't have picked a better hotel. Room was great, was a family garden suite on the ground floor and was spacious & clean. Kids loved the location, right on the beach and the pool and gardens were lovely. Usually like to eat out most nights but this holiday we decided to go half board. Was a great decision as the food was wonderful. Lots of choice and good quality, definately will return. Hotel a little dated but with location and food it didn't matter.

Second visit to this hotel and it would be a pleasure to return again. The food is good and plentiful, facilities are a little dated - but so what! Hotel is very clean and well maintained, service is excellent and staff helpful and friendly. Bedroom and bathroom spacious and well furnished, with lovely views across the garden towards the sea.
Complimentary sparkling wine for my birthday - icing on the cake!

Although this hotel is a little dated there are lots of plus points for this hotel.
The location is fabulous if you like the beach, you just walk straight out onto the beach from the back of the hotel.
It is a 5-minute walk to the shops, bars & restaurants, in a better location than villa del Conde which is where we stayed the year before, which is quite a walk out.
The food & service in the restaurant is outstanding & is also better than the Villa del Conde.-it is the best food I have had in any hotel in the Canaries. The only critism is that at breakfast there is not an omelette station, like in most hotels I have stayed in but if you ask they are more than happy to make you one.

The grounds of the hotel are lovely & you can shade under the trees. The swimming pool is dated, basic but clean & if it was done up this would be an excellent hotel.
I also like the fact that Riu hotel bedrooms are carpeted & thus helps to reduce the noise.
Overall a great hotel in a great location with excellent food & service.

The hotel looks like a 1960's municpal car park. The overall look is dated and needs a huge over haul. The gardens are lovely and well cared for. We had to change rooms as the first room had water dripping from the air conditioning unit overnight and also had black mould growing both inside and outside the AC unit. The hotel were reluctant to move us to another room, and only did so because we refused to stay in the original room. Some staff were aloof and the Maitre D rude as we refused to pay rip off prices for bottled water. The cleanliness of the hotel was good. The choice of food good, but often only just warm. The only way to guarantee hot food was to get items just cooked! We will go back to Maspalomas, great resort, but not back to this hotel. Not really a 5*, more 4*

  • Liked — air conditioning not noisy. Lovely view
  • Disliked — hard beds and pillows.

We visited this hotel in the beginning of August. A very traditional hotel..not sure if it deserves a 5 star rating though however, it has great service and the staff is always willing to help!

We were upgraded to sea view on arrival which was a very nice surprise and the view was really lovely! They took into account all the requests we made when making the booking.

The hotel has a very strange layout and the pool is in the opposite end to the beach. There is also a lovely garden on the way out to the beach with lots of sun beds surrounded by palm trees (great for shade). There is also a Jacuzzi in the middle of the garden.

The staff do come round offering drinks which can be very nice.

I do suggest going for the HB or FB options as the food at the hotel is absolutely outstanding! Good variety and lots of sea food! However, at breakfast time the buffet is very overcrowded.

There is entertainment in the evenings and some activities during the day but all in all it is a very quiet and relaxing hotel.

  • Liked — Great food and very attentive staff
  • Disliked — Strange hotel layout

This is our 3rd time at this hotel. It is a lovely hotel and offers a good standard of accomodation. 2 good size pools and close to a modern town with good resturants.

The hotel has changed management this year and seems more focused on older clientel without children. The advertised Kids club was not running and the facility was very small anyway.

The guests were mostly German and Spanish and little english was spoken by the staff.

Food was good and a large Buffet selection was offered. However, after a week it starts to get rather dull.

Rooms are good and cleaned to a good standard. Furnishings now look rather tired compared to other 4* plus hotels which is where this hotel is pitched.

Speciality resturant is not child friendly.

Suites near the lower pool are the best place to stay.

  • Liked — Excellent location near smart town and porximity of accodation to pool side
  • Disliked — lack of english spoken by staff and food gets a bit dull after a week

First time visit to Gran Canaria and a Riu Hotel. Doesn't look that great but the hotel ticks all the boxes if you want a relaxing holiday in a situation near to a great beach with acres of well tended gardens to chill out in. Played tennis on good courts and meals were very good. Night time entertainment was a bit amatuerish but passed the time to have a coffee and brandy with!

Concierge parking of your car welcome as public parking spaces somewhat limited. Visted Puerto Mogan and did Yellow Submarine trip which is recommended.
Of all of the Canaries , preferred GC to all the rest.
Guests are mainly German, we were one of perhaps only three Brit couples in the hotel. All guests very polite, with no replica football shirts or baseball caps in sight. Heaven.
Not recommended for families with young children, try one of the mega hotels at Meloneras instead.
