Sorry, this is a bit long.
Turbo club is a small complex of low rise apartments with two swimming pools, plus a small children’s pool and an outdoor Jacuzzi. We only used the main pool where the bar is, and it was very nice and clean. The water was warm, as the pool is in the sun all day. There is an outdoor entertainments area by the restaurant, but this was being done up whilst we stayed, so we didn’t get to play archery and darts…what a shame…not! LOL But by now, it will be up and running. The team still tried to entertain as much as possible, they are very hard working there.
The food is ok, nothing special, but then it is only a 2 key hotel. Neither of us got any type of tummy problems, that is usually the biggest concern when abroad, so they are doing something right in the kitchen;-)
Drinking is alright, we are not big drinkers so stuck to their equivalent of Tia Maria or equivalent Malibu, which were both very nice with ice in the evening. All spirits are lower in alcohol than what you usually buy here in the UK, but then it doesn’t really matter as it is all inclusive and you can drink as much or as little as you like. The beer is ok, the wine is a little bit rubbish…that box type stuff! And cocktails also come out of a box and taste like pop, so you can drink a few of those without getting too tipsy.
The all inclusive finishes on 12:00 the day you leave, regardless of your flight time. Our tour operator ‘Awful Cosmos’ didn’t mention this when we booked and it came as a bit of a shock. But then we did get to eat out on our last day, which was nice. But this should be mentioned when booking.
The rooms are very nice, they exceeded our expectations given that we knew we were booking a 2 key budget hotel. They are clean on arrival, well equipped, with kitchenette and fridge. We had a nice large balcony facing the pool on the top floor and even had a second balcony to the rear, which was great as you could get air to flow through from the bedroom to the lounge area. Unfortunately for ‘couples’ you get twin beds pushed together, it is always nice to get a double bed…but they were at least comfortable.
The entertainment is a mix of whatever they can get, and the usual: Miss Turbo club, karaoke, bingo. They did have snakes one night which was a bit different. A guy came with a couple of boxes and introduced three different snakes, ranging from small to large. Another night it was birds of prey, I don’t much like these sorts of things, but some do and you get the usual photo opportunities. One thing I would say is the entertainment team work their socks off for the kids, there isn’t much for children to do here, so the team really work hard to keep kids entertained.
You get a free courtesy bus which runs three times a day to the dunes. There is a nature reserve next to the dunes which was a nice surprise, there are lots of birds to spot if you like that kind of thing. The dunes are nice, too hot for us, but worth having a walk just to take photographs of the surrounding scenery. You can also book trips along the beach front, we were a little worried at first, but soon realised you save money by booking through the small ticket desks, rather than through your rep or hotel.
One trip not to miss is the jeep safari called ‘Zig Zag Jeep Safari.’ It was super fun!!! You get to swim in a lake, lunch and drinks are thrown in, also a camel ride, you get to see some of the island and learn a little more about Gran Canaria. The best part is at the end where they really do take you off road and almost kill you, well not quite, but you feel like you might dive off the edge. The drivers are crazy, but of course, good drivers! So don’t worry too much. Just don’t wear white like I did, my shirt was brown at the end…you do need several good showers to get the dust off yourself. But do this trip, you will not regret it. The guide Garry is excellent and all the drivers are so funny! You get a good crowd and laugh all day long. We bought the DVD, which was well worth buying, they video you throughout. So sit at the front of the jeep if you can, or you just see your hand waving through the roof.
Another good trip is a catamaran trip to see dolphins. You also get lunch and drinks thrown in with this trip, a banana boat ride (we managed to blag two rides.) You can also pay to do jet skiing, which is well worth doing, we loved it! You get a lot for your money with both of those trips.
Also don’t miss the water park ‘aqua land’, this is a great place for water lovers of all ages. There is also a small fun park close to the Turbo club apartments, @Holiday World’ this is good for a night out, there are a few places to eat there which aren’t bad either.
Gran Canaria…what a great place to visit! So much to do, we would love to return in the future to do all the trips we missed. I would probably want to stay closer to the beach next time and pay a little more, if just to get better food. But don’t be put off going to this hotel, on a small budget, it is spot on. We met some nice people, had heaps of fun, laughed so much and don’t have a single regret about booking this trip. Well, other than the fact it was through Cosmos. But I won’t bore you with that…I’ve gone on long enough. Teehee
Hope you enjoy this place as much as we did, holidays are what you make of them. You can’t say anything too negative about this hotel, just bare in mind the food is not that great, but everything else is just fine.
