“A great holiday on a small budget!”
Reviewed October 8, 2011

Sorry, this is a bit long. 

Turbo club is a small complex of low rise apartments with two swimming pools, plus a small children’s pool and an outdoor Jacuzzi. We only used the main pool where the bar is, and it was very nice and clean. The water was warm, as the pool is in the sun all day. There is an outdoor entertainments area by the restaurant, but this was being done up whilst we stayed, so we didn’t get to play archery and darts…what a shame…not! LOL But by now, it will be up and running. The team still tried to entertain as much as possible, they are very hard working there.

The food is ok, nothing special, but then it is only a 2 key hotel. Neither of us got any type of tummy problems, that is usually the biggest concern when abroad, so they are doing something right in the kitchen;-)

Drinking is alright, we are not big drinkers so stuck to their equivalent of Tia Maria or equivalent Malibu, which were both very nice with ice in the evening. All spirits are lower in alcohol than what you usually buy here in the UK, but then it doesn’t really matter as it is all inclusive and you can drink as much or as little as you like. The beer is ok, the wine is a little bit rubbish…that box type stuff! And cocktails also come out of a box and taste like pop, so you can drink a few of those without getting too tipsy.

The all inclusive finishes on 12:00 the day you leave, regardless of your flight time. Our tour operator ‘Awful Cosmos’ didn’t mention this when we booked and it came as a bit of a shock. But then we did get to eat out on our last day, which was nice. But this should be mentioned when booking.

The rooms are very nice, they exceeded our expectations given that we knew we were booking a 2 key budget hotel. They are clean on arrival, well equipped, with kitchenette and fridge. We had a nice large balcony facing the pool on the top floor and even had a second balcony to the rear, which was great as you could get air to flow through from the bedroom to the lounge area. Unfortunately for ‘couples’ you get twin beds pushed together, it is always nice to get a double bed…but they were at least comfortable.

The entertainment is a mix of whatever they can get, and the usual: Miss Turbo club, karaoke, bingo. They did have snakes one night which was a bit different. A guy came with a couple of boxes and introduced three different snakes, ranging from small to large. Another night it was birds of prey, I don’t much like these sorts of things, but some do and you get the usual photo opportunities. One thing I would say is the entertainment team work their socks off for the kids, there isn’t much for children to do here, so the team really work hard to keep kids entertained.

You get a free courtesy bus which runs three times a day to the dunes. There is a nature reserve next to the dunes which was a nice surprise, there are lots of birds to spot if you like that kind of thing. The dunes are nice, too hot for us, but worth having a walk just to take photographs of the surrounding scenery. You can also book trips along the beach front, we were a little worried at first, but soon realised you save money by booking through the small ticket desks, rather than through your rep or hotel.

One trip not to miss is the jeep safari called ‘Zig Zag Jeep Safari.’ It was super fun!!! You get to swim in a lake, lunch and drinks are thrown in, also a camel ride, you get to see some of the island and learn a little more about Gran Canaria. The best part is at the end where they really do take you off road and almost kill you, well not quite, but you feel like you might dive off the edge. The drivers are crazy, but of course, good drivers! So don’t worry too much. Just don’t wear white like I did, my shirt was brown at the end…you do need several good showers to get the dust off yourself. But do this trip, you will not regret it. The guide Garry is excellent and all the drivers are so funny! You get a good crowd and laugh all day long. We bought the DVD, which was well worth buying, they video you throughout. So sit at the front of the jeep if you can, or you just see your hand waving through the roof.

Another good trip is a catamaran trip to see dolphins. You also get lunch and drinks thrown in with this trip, a banana boat ride (we managed to blag two rides.) You can also pay to do jet skiing, which is well worth doing, we loved it! You get a lot for your money with both of those trips.

Also don’t miss the water park ‘aqua land’, this is a great place for water lovers of all ages. There is also a small fun park close to the Turbo club apartments, @Holiday World’ this is good for a night out, there are a few places to eat there which aren’t bad either.

Gran Canaria…what a great place to visit! So much to do, we would love to return in the future to do all the trips we missed. I would probably want to stay closer to the beach next time and pay a little more, if just to get better food. But don’t be put off going to this hotel, on a small budget, it is spot on. We met some nice people, had heaps of fun, laughed so much and don’t have a single regret about booking this trip. Well, other than the fact it was through Cosmos. But I won’t bore you with that…I’ve gone on long enough. Teehee

Hope you enjoy this place as much as we did, holidays are what you make of them. You can’t say anything too negative about this hotel, just bare in mind the food is not that great, but everything else is just fine.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor.

I went with my partner for Xmas 2009 - Going back in Nov 2011. Great Hotel, clean rooms, pools fantastic. Rooms are a decent size and situated around the 2 pools nicely.

Xmas dinner looked good although we didnt have it as we were trying to avoid Xmas all together :) The food in general was good, not excellent but if I was after excellent I would be going 5star. You get what you pay for and overall it's not bad at all.

We also like a bit of peace and quiet so were lucky when we found the second pool away from the bar and noise of the main pool. We then made that part of our daily routine. It's not too far away so OK to get drinks but just enough for a good relaxing day.

The hotel is a bit out of the way if you are looking for big nightlife scene but as we werent after that, the short but sweet entertainment and all inclusive drinks were perfect - the on site supermarket was also great for cheap after bar drinking.

We also had a free bus ticket to the beach with our stay although we didnt actually use it. Hiring a car is fun but be careful, they are not like UK drivers - you can hire a car at reception. All staff were friendly and good with English.

Overall it was a great holiday, hence why we are now counting the days until we go back again. I would and already have recommended this hotel and the area to others - Check it out for yourself :)

We are due back at the Turbo Club in November for a week, which is our 3rd visit. For a cheap break it is ideal. Holiday in the Sun.
Having just had a fortnight away ( August ) in Lanzarote with our eldest daughter and our grandson who is 8 we both said, " where can we go cheap and cheerful to chill and relax and go out for a couple of cocktails in the evenings to some nice bars". Guess which one gave us the best value for money. The Turbo Club.. Cannot beat the price to Maspalomas for the 2 of us all inclusive. Last Year we enjoyed ourselves relaxing by the pool, a couple of days at the beach. Cannot see the point in paying £1000 for the week for the 2 of us when we paid less than £700 for the 2 of us with On The Beach.
We are not fussy eaters. The drinks tastes fine to us. Rooms are lovely. Staff have always been pleasant. We love the walks to Maspalomas and Playa Del Ingles. Love The Yumbo Center. And never had any problems with the Gay people, not even at the Turbo Club.
Blimmey , i'm all excited now just talking about it.
See you in November Turbo Club ;) Oh and a visit to Mogan (little Venice) so pretty. Ferry from Puerto Rico to Mogan is fabulous and you might see the Dophins like us x

A decent enough complex with good sized rooms with kitchenette and fridge. All have good sized balconies or terraces. The rooms are clean on arrival, but they do not get cleaned much throughout your stay. We had fresh towels twice, beds made once and the floor barely mopped twice...very disappointing after reading reviews which stated the rooms were cleaned daily, this is not so.

The staff are appalling and unfriendly. We always remain friendly, even when met with indifference. But these staff don't speak much English for a reason, they hate them! It is mainly German and Spanish holidaying there, so be prepared for the towels at dawn!

The hotel is in a quiet location, but near Holiday World which is fun on a night out, you can also get a decent meal there for very little when you get sick of the rubbish they feed you at the hotel.

The food is as bad as most people say it is in reviews. You can usually find something to eat, but it gets so boring, not worth staying there all inclusive.

If you have a night flight on your last day, they won't so much as let you pour a glass of water without jumping on you saying” no all inclusive...all inclusive finish!" Oh they are awful staff there!!!!

I wouldn't say to people "don't go" but I would say avoid it if you can. There are many hotels in Gran Canaria, if you don't have to book this one, don't! It can be disappointing at times and at other times pure infuriating with the level of rudeness of staff. The entertainment staff are friendly, but then they need to be.

The entertainment is the usual rubbish, it doesn't start till at the earliest 21:30, then it is low key and pretty boring...like bingo and karaoke. Also they try to shut anyone up when speaking loudly late on, hush hush man will get you if you so much as wear stiletto shoes or laugh out loud.

Families should avoid this hotel at all costs, it is full of gay people, which is fine, but you get the chav version here with most people and you don't want to see the ex-rated show they put on in the pool...it is vulgar!

Overall, you can enjoy what little you get for your money, but if you want a great holiday, pull out a few more quid and book a better hotel. This one is tiny, they can hardly cope with a half empty hotel, so on busier periods it would be truly unbearable.

I never realised if you went to a cheap hotel, you would get so many chavs from both England and Germany. You could see many were fed up with the vulgar swearing and lewd sexual innuendoes all day and night.

If all this suits you then you have found a home from home. If not, pay a little more and hope for the best.

I actually believe some of the good reviews have come from friends of the staff or those who like a bit of rough.
