“wonderfully friendly staff ......”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

Just spent a week at this hotel - travelled on my own, but never felt lonely - the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Hotel was everything I expected - I was on half board and the dinners weren't great, but OK - if I go again I will probably book on a B&B basis as there are loads of places locally to eat. I like the system they have for reserving sunbeds:- you get one allocated on arrival which is tagged with your details so there are no "towels at dawn" battles ;-)

This is probably the best located Hotel in Meloneras immediately adjacent to the Lighthouse which is the most prominent feature in the resort. Meloneras is the most up-market part of Maspalomas and is to be highly recommended. No tattoos on show nor a football top to be seen, mainly German and Spanish tourists but virtually no Brits (is this a coincidence)!! Many of our fellow guests had little English but this did not stop them from being very courteous and friendly to us.

We were in room 1405 on the fourth floor facing west. We did not get the sun on our balcony until 4.30 in the afternoon (we were there in June) but the outlook was splendid and we did have the benefit of spectacular sunsets. The rooms on the east side overlook the strip of downmarket shops and eateries. Indeed there is a marked difference between the east and west sides of the hotel with the west side almost being a different resort with excellent restaurants, shopping mall and designer shops.

Our room was comfortable rather than grand but was more than adequate with a good bathroom (albeit with frosted glass door through which you see nothing but a shadow) two single beds pushed together to form a queensize (fairly standard practice nowadays), a good size balcony with two loungers, two chairs and a table. TV was a disappointment with only Sky News and CNN in English (mainly German channels) and no coverage at all of the football during the Euros!! The pictures of the hotel on this website are a very fair representation of the rooms, reception area, pool and dining room.

On arrival you are issued with tickets for pool loungers which you give to the attendant after you have chosen were you wish located. Thereafter this is yours for your whole stay (a really good idea).

Breakfast was buffet style and reflected German and Spanish rather than British tastes. However bacon and eggs were on offer (watch out for the lady chef cooking the fried eggs to order - she makes it an art form) as were boiled eggs, hams, cheeses, the most excellent bread and pasties as well as cereals, fresh fruit and sparkling wine! We tried dinner one evening, also buffet style at 19 euros per head, which was OK rather than something to write home about.

About 200 metres from the hotel there is a strip of restaurants all competing vigorously for your custom. We ate in the Faro Grill (twice), the Chinese, and La Pampa which is upstairs at the entrance to the shopping mall (twice) and can highly recommend all three. The Grand Italia was a real let down with poor food and condescending service even by Italian standards.

Although the temperature went into the 30s during our stay there is always a slight breeze to keep it comfortable.

Will we go back to Meloneras and IFA Faro - emphatically yes.

Staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful through the hotel.

We stayed one week half board in a superior room with sea view. Requested a high room and an extra pillow - got a room on the !st Floor - there was already one extra pillow in the room. Room was large enough with plenty of wardrobe space and hangers. No WiFi in the room. No english TV programmes - other than SKY and CNN news - no reception for BBC World News. No films available but this was not a problem for us. Sunbeds allocated for the week - a niggle that the more expensive rooms had the better beds though. One pool towel each was provided with a one euro charge to replace them - money going to the hotel group's chosen charity. Food for breakfast and dinner was good and the restaurant staff were very good. There was not a separate bathroom - toilet and shower doors were frosted glass and led directly off the bedroom with the washbasin between the two cubicles - not to everyone's choice. We thought that the bath towels were on the small side. We tried to hire bathrobes without success. A bottle of shower/shampoo is fixed in the shower but apart from soap and shower caps no other toilietries were provided.
The hotel is separated from the sea by a boardwalk and is very close to the sand dunes and the centre of Maspalomas - a purpose built tourist centre with luxury hotels and designer shops. It's worth taking a day trip to see more of the island - we used lowcost tours - 29 euros for the trips with lots of short stops and a longer stop for lunch - 10.50 euros. The visit to the rum distillery was good - worth buying some to take home.

We were probably the only Italians around the hotel but the hotel staff, the service and the location made us feel very comfortable. We really did have a memorable and relaxing vacation, fantastically located and great staff. Thank you, we will reccomend your services and hotel to all our friends visiting the Gran Canary's area.

...yet you have your own pool side lounger - guaranteed & reserved. Great breakfast, great lunch but have the a la carte seafood, Bit Burger Beer vom Tap and there you have it a great Hotel. Get a Sea View room and watch the fishing boat lights late at night whilst having that last gin and tonic.

The evening entertainment is stunning insofar that it is based in the innocent 70's. A proper history lesson. Get a jug of white sparkling sangria and wallow in Annabelle's Party.

Room Tip: Sea View. Barter.

We arrived back on the 23rd January ' 12., having spent 14 nights at this excellent Hotel. It is situated right on the beach at Maspalomas with miles of sandy beach and dunes just a hundred yards to the right.....and it is all flat ground !!. The sight and sound of the Atlantic breakers was fabulous especially from the Hotel Terrace both day and night. We had room 1233 which being on the east side got the Sun from first thing in the morning till about 5,00pm when the Sun starts to go down in January.
We could not fault this Hotel in anyway. Our Room was spacious with a large Double Bed - albeit 2 singles pushed together, it was so big I never saw the wife for 2 weks !!. It also had both a large Bathroom and Balcony which was all spotlessly cleaned everyday.
Reception Staff in fact everyone at the Hotel were kind and friendly, and the Food was some of the best we had ever tasted. Whil'st we have seen more choice at other places, what you get here is of very high quality.
Yes, the clientele was made up mostly of Germans ( where is it not nowadays ! ), but we got on O.K. with them.
We had transferred from another Hotel in Meloronas, which was too far out for us, and in moving to the Hotel Faro, we had to forego A/I for Half-Board, but we didn't regret it.
We thought the Entertainment was good, with a resident Duo playing ( everynight ) supported by Tribute acts - Tina Turner, Elvis, Micheal Buble, the 4 Tenors, plus Chinese Acrobats (clever) and a new twist on Brazilian Flemenco with a 3 piece "classical" backing group.
The transfer time was about an hour, but only 35 minutes on return.
This is a lovely Hotel in a lovely location, and if you do go there please try the Custard Doughnuts they put out at Breakfast.....their sublime

SPENT AN Almost faultless week here. Second visit in six months. All staff exceptional. Helpful, frienndly, impressively multilingual. Breakfast excellent. Minor niggles=charges for room safe & wifi
British visitors very much in the minority but absolutely no sign of favouratism.
Sun beds booked for the entire stay is an excellent idea, other properties please take note!

Room Tip: Try to secure a Westerlt facing room.
