“Christmas in Gran Canaria”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

This hotel is very impressive on arrival, large reception area with plenty of helpful staff to make the check in quick and painless. We stayed in a standard room on the ground floor which was spotlessly clean and surprisingly spacious. We thought that being on the ground floor would be noisy but we were wrong as the balcony was quite private being screened by Palm trees. The food was excellent and a great and varied choice, we had a person in our party who needed a special diet and she was looked after tremendously well with a different choice of diet each time. The Christmas and New Years gala dinners were superb with a four course meal being served on both occasions with plenty of wine and champagne ,it was great to see all the hardworking staff parade around the restaurant to great applause after the meal s well done everyone. The swimming pools are large enough for the two hotels that share the facilities with plenty of sun beds for all. The only slight mark I would put against the hotel is the evening entertainment which was typical for this type of hotel but there again you don't expect top stars. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a more upmarket break for couples ,friends and families who don't want the hustle and bustle of a main resort. Excellent holiday.

my wife and i stayed here for christmas we come to maspalomas every christmas normaly self catering but this year we stayed here with half bourd the hotel is verry nice and big lots of families with children there is a large pool and lots of sun beds but there are so many palm trees you have a job to find a sun bed thats not in the shade unless you went and sat with all the families with kids we booked a suit with privat garden thinking we could sitt out there and read when we came back from the pool but the garden was all in the shade of the palm trees plus we had to change our room because at 9.30 the entertainment starts and our room was right above the stage and the thumping from the music was constaint untill 12.00 good syart to the holidaythe outher irritating thing was we couldent get a cup of tea when we wanted one no tea making faciletys in the room so we rang room service only to be told more tha once to go to the bar and order one or wait fore breakfast or dinner we wont be going back we now agree we prefer the freedom of self catering at least we can have a cup of tea when we want it.

overall, hotel was very nice, beautiful atmosphere, many swimming pools. however, I would recommend this hotel if you're travelling with kids as there were many families and all you could hear were kids playing, from morning-until late night.

I stayed there the week before Christmas with my wife and nine year old daughter. We were very happy with the facilities. It was very much as described; excellent freshly prepared food, clean recently decorated room, mix of heated and unheated pools and excellent kids activities. We were lucky with the weather and had no rain. We went with Thompson and found the reps helpful and easily accessible.

This was our first stay in Gran Canaria and in the hotel Maspalomas Princess for 12 days. Upon arrival the hotel provides a clean, calm, nice impression for the size that it is. The reception was quick and able to answer all questions we had. The room was spacious (1074) with a large balcony. The baby cot for our 2 year took up a bit of space, but the rooms are spacious enough to accommodate. As many mentioned before by others, the hotel gardens and pools are probably the best part of the complex. Even though the hotel was quite full, there was plenty of space to find a quite corner next to one of the many pools. Even in December, the water was rather warm and 2 of the pools were heated (1 for children) so it was great for swimming even during the cooler days. The restaurant and dining was quite good for the size of the complex, but cannot say the food was excellent. There was plenty of variety to choose from with a themed dinner every couple of days. They also have a small section for with selection of food for children which was helpful. Again since the hotel was quite full, the staff was professional in keeping everything in order, and most of the dishes were kept very warm.

Location of the hotel is not bad, it's about a 15 minute walk to the beach, dunes, and lighthouse in Maspalomas, where there are quite a few high end shops and restaurants to visit. If you would like to visit the town, it's easier to catch a taxi which costs only 4 to 5 Euros one way. There is nothing really close to the hotel complex which is a bit disappointing, either you have to walk 15 minutes or catch a taxi anywhere you want to go. There is an option to rent a car directly in hotel lobby which we used for 2 days, I can recommend the service as it was very easy to organize and the car was ready right in the hotel parking lot the very minute we asked. It's definitely worth driving around the island as there are many places to stop by and visit. The reception can help in providing many tips for markets and locations to drive to. Driving for example to Las Palmas only takes about 45 minutes and is very easy to get to.

To summarize our stay, in general the vacation was relaxing and hotel services appropriate. Only areas I would mention as slightly negative was the room we had (1047) is located above the piano bar, which is quite loud during the evenings and plays until midnight slowly. Another concern is the room cleaning was adequate, but not great. It seemed to be very rushed and no attention to the balcony, counter tops, and other parts of the room. I am not expecting the room to be cleaned perfectly, but this was quite visible during the whole stay we had. I can recommend the hotel as a good place for a relaxing stay during the winter, especially if you have children.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2013

We travelled in November 2013 for two weeks and had a great time in Maspalomas. This hotel creates a great impression in firs arrival we had no issues and the reception area is very nice. The staff are what makes this hotel such as Jose the head waiter and Adega eho works in the pisno bar who were just a delight. We had a great time but there are a couple of recommendations. Mainly the rooms in the 21st century you would expect that couples could at least have a room with a double bed. There is hardly any drawer space and the bathroom could also benefit from drawers under the sink area.for storage of your toiletries. They definitely could benefit from an upgrade as I have stayed in 4-5 star hotels all over the world and the rooms were fabulous compared to the one we had at this hotel. The upside was we had a garden room with an enormous balcony but was opposite the lifts which were very noisy. We did see that some rooms are being refurbished so hopefully this will be resolved soon. The rooms have many English TV channels some of the Spanish ones show English movies as well. We didn't use the fridge or safe. The happy hour in the piano bar is from five to six and though busy a lot of people said they would have preferred it to be a little later perhaps after dinner. The pool areas are by clean there are lots of loungers despite how busy it was but again the pools were freezing and even the one they said was heated wasn't that warm. The gardens surrounding the pools are fantastic though. As for the customers there are mainly families with young children or elderly people there were not many in our age category which is mid forties. The older ones were complaining about all the children but to be honest what do you expects smilies are just as entitled to holiday as well as couples without kids we found it all a bit petty really. The food could do with being a bit warmer anything hot was actually lukewarm I stuck to salads most days there is plenty variety to cater all diets. The walk to the beach is long so be prepared either that you can get a taxi there for about 4 euros and even to Playa del Ingles it's the same. There are bus stop outside the hotel and across the road to take you furthered afield such as Puerto Mogan or Las Palmas. There is a supermarket opposite the hotel but its very expensive compared to others a short walk away. There is what used to be a shopping mall down the road called Faro 2 but it's half empty now but the supermarket is cheap. the lighthouse area in Melonoras is lovely very nice restaurants and bars as well as a variety of shops. You can also hire bikes at the hotel but the saddles are very uncomfortable so I wouldn't recommend it. There are also bike and car hire shops in Melonoras too. If you like holidays with not much to do then this is for you. The hotel layout itself is for nice despite the few recommendations we would actually go back as we enjoyed the stay there and Maspalomas is so beautiful it's worth it.

An excellent hotel. Impressive entrance, in immaculate condition at all times. Public areas very well set out and comfortable. Large and interestingly landscaped pool area. Staff were unfailingly pleasant, efficient and helpful. Nice dining room. Plenty of choice. Food well cooked and nicely presented. Rooms very spacious and very comfortable, beds particularly. A fine hotel, well worth staying there. A little bit out in the sticks for location, but taxis are cheap and plentiful, so don't be put off by locaton.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor
