“go off peak”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

we stayed for a week in early march 2013 , staff friendly, food ok, entertainment ok, plenty of sun beds but most were to close together. There is hardly anywhere else to go close to the hotel, one supermarket, two restaurants. The beach and other restaurants are a good 30min walk, the Faro shopping centre is not worth going to because it has only 2 shops open, but GO to the drag show it was great

Room Tip: second or third floor

We stayed for a week of winter sun and we were very happy with the hotel overall. Having read the reviews I was expecting Butlins but I can assure the standard is very good. Yes there are kids there but if you want adults only then book an adults only hotel!
Our benchmark is previous holidays with Thompsons to Sensatori Crete and Atlantica Golden Beach Cyrpus and would say the rooms and food are comparable quality and the drinks reasonable value - 3.30 Euros for bottled beer. The entertainment was a bit hit and miss though and I can understand the artificial beach is not everyones cup of tea (but we never struggled for a sunbed).
If you like to do lots of trips and sightseeing this is not the right location for you but for if you are looking for a relaxing sunny break as a couple or family then you could do a lot worse.

Room Tip: Room close to lobby get wifi signal - we had 2078

If you are a couple looking for a relaxing holiday do not go to this hotel. The hordes of unruly children constantly running round the public areas and corridors mean that it was impossible to find any peace in this hotel day or night. Even though it was unbearable we were not prepared to pay well in excess of £1000 that Thomson s were asking to move to another hotel. Eventually the rep Ben managed to get us a room in the Tabaiba which was quieter. Otherwise we would have packed our bags and sought alternative accommodation at our own expense. However for a platinum hotel with Britain’s no 1 package tour operator, this holiday experience was far from acceptable. Needless to say we will not be returning to this hotel and neither will all the other couples we spoke to. We booked this holiday in good faith based on five previous visits which have been excellent. We now have little confidence in Thomson holidays.

Having stayed here in 2012 and being thrilled with everything at the hotel, we booked for this year. We were somewhat disappointed to read all the negative reviews and wondered if we had made a mistake! However, upon arrival we found the reception staff most accommodating, polite and helpful. The cleanliness of corridors and rooms was excellent, and the food and choice of food for a carnivore and a vegetarian was amazing. We would certainly come back next year! Thank you for another fabulous holiday

February 2013; definitely nor a cosy place for couples or elderly people. Being 66 and 68, loving kids, but this was really too much. Garden and poolside/pools were crowded, neatly impossible to walk between the sunbeds which were occupied by bathtowels from long before sinrise. We did not spend even 5 minutes during our two weeks holiday in or around the pools. When checking in upon arrival our room (0149) on the first floor was next to the kids pool; to be honest not very quiet or calm. On top of that we could not see any blue sky or sunlight since palms, rubber- and other exotic plant were like a thick wall next to our balcony. When the childrens disco started at 6 pm just in the basement floor underneath our room our friendliness and patience came to a sudden stop. Immediate change of room after our clear expression of great dissatisfaction. Our new room (3053) was quite acceptable. However the A/C did not cool at all (22 C) eventhough we adjusted the thermostat to 10C and full speed on the fan. We complained and the technician paid us a visit twice; last time causing a major water leakage. Hairdrier we totally gave up complaining about; working for 20 seconds, then overheated and no more working. No replacement despite promising so.
Food, restaurant and other facilities quite acceptable, but we are not returning to tis hotel.

This seems really uncanny after reading the last post by Iain212. We have just returned from the Maspalomas Princess. My husband, daughter (25) and I were after a well deserved break. I rang Thomsons who recommended the Princess as she had been before and said it was perfect for couples and ranked 8 out of 40 by Tripadvisor. It was a short notice holiday with only a week to wait. So did not have time to research before booking. After handing over full payment of the holiday we came home and my husband decided to check Tripadvisor. Not the reviews he was expecting to read. We immediately tried to cancel but was told by Thomson there would be a 100% cancellation fee. So had no choice but to go. The hotel itself was clean and modern. Lovely large pool areas and an artificial beach was the quietest spot away from all the Scandanavian parents with their 3+ kids to each family. Food ok but was never very warm. We asked for a quiet room but was given one on the first floor near the lifts. If you wanted a sleep in after 7.30am - no chance! Screaming kids racing up and down the corridor constantly. Also from 5pm till 7 or 8 every evening. Again no chance of any peace and quiet. Kids charging round banging on doors even bouncing balls around. Dining room the same madness. Unless you went in after 8.30pm by which time the food was being cleared away. This would be a nice relaxing hotel if Tui were not selling it on mass as a family hotel with free child places, which Thomsons omitted to tell us on booking. Would we go to this hotel or with Thomsons again? No! Definitely not!

Room Tip: Top floor away from lifts and marauding children.

Our problems started even before we left the UK! My friend booked this hotel with Thomsons in Glasgow after reading it is in their platinum range. He booked it in the Thomsons travel agents and was told this was a great hotel suitable for couples! I read reviews on the maspalomas princess and was horrified to find it was overrun with small children due to TUI having a 5 year contract in Scandanavia where children travel free. We are middle aged and like a hotel in which we can relax. You get children in every hotel but this place seemed to be like a kindergarten and not for us. We spent two days on the phone a week before departure with Thomsons explaining we had not been told this at the time of booking and would like to be moved to another hotel. We offered to pay the difference to be moved to a RIU hotel nearby £130 each After paying £620 each for the princess.( half board ) They passed us from pillar to post, telling us to phone customer services which got us nowhere! After hours on the phone with the Glasgow office the best they could come up with was to move us at a cost of £380 each on top of the £620 we had already payed totaling £2000 for a weeks holiday halfboard!!!
We were not prepared to do this. We have booked with Thomsons before in their platinum range and was fantastic (Riu Palace) But after this experience NEVER AGAIN! The princess is a lovely hotel with a great pool area and spotless. The food is good but i would not have this place in the platinum range. The place is overrun with small children, the dining room was noisy with kids running around, playing with the food at service area. We were sitting next to an
older couple one night and kids were playing hide and seek under their table with their parents
watching on! Shocking!! This is a great hotel if you are a young family and the staff are excellent but if you dont want to spend a week at a nursery avoid this place.

Room Tip: No rooms escape the sound of screaming babies and kids running up and down corridors!
