“Good getaway!”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Me & my partner stayed here for 9nights, 21st May 2013. After reading many mixed reviews, i was lets say.. skeptical. Airport..transfer etc.. fine!.. Booked with OnTheBeach. When we arrived, the hotel looks fresh from the outside, and the reception looked immaculate too!

We were allocated bungalow 92, which faced the front of the hotel (ill explain later), the bungalows are clean and adequate. You have your own sunloungers & table and chairs which is great. Inside the bungalow needs updating, the deco pink/yellow/green walls is awful.. but its all ok! taste i suppose.
Request a room away from the front of the hotel.. as in the early morning the bin men are VERY loud, and you need to keep your window open due to heat.. so stay away from there.
Cleaners are brilliant, we had our towels changed more than needed and they always cleaned the floor/kitchen etc too. No double beds, only twin, although we re-arranged ours together! No one minded. The sun terrace in front of your bungalow is a great sun trap.

The hotel complex i would rate a good 3/4 star, the pool is big, smaller pool for kiddies and PLENTY of sunloungers! We did find it quiet but realised it was due to the time of year, the restaurant at the hotel is lovely! Lasagna is very tasty! and all pretty much priced as you would pay away from the hotel. You can even order takeaway food to your bungalow for same price.
The bar was also ok, probably a little cheaper than other places, although we only went there once, it was a tad to quite.. i can not comment on how this would be in peak season.

The hotel is a little out of the way but not as bad as a lot of reviews make out, as long as you know the shortcut! Closest supermarket a meer 10 min stroll! .. come out of hotel go straight ahead, turn left.. then on the right you will see a dry patch of unbuilt land.. cross over and walk right across it!.. you end up on the roundabout right opposite he supermarket and saves time walking to playa del ingles too!

Weather was brill!.. cant complain..

Overall i don't think you can go wrong with this hotel, shame the bungalows are outdated, as the rest of the hotel really is pretty good =). Taxi's are always around, no matter what time it is, it never cost us more than 4 euros 20, to go to and back from playa del ingles and maspalomas. although we managed to walk them a few times.

Would we return?.. Probably.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from reception, as bin men are very noisy in the early hours.

Our experience is based on having stayed here for the month of May over 3 years. Duna Beach complex is a quiet oasis but within reasonable walking distance from the beach and Playa del Ingles. Local taxis are plentiful and cost no more than €5 (to the above). The complex is extremely well managed, catering for elderly clients, couples with small children and individual travellers. The large pool is maintained daily and is never over-crowded. Pepe and his team of gardeners & maintenance staff keep the whole complex looking first class. Security is assured as there is a 24 hr reception service. This year, Fran, the newest receptionist was extremely helpful as have been Lucy & Gustavo in prior years. It says it all for Duna Beach that you meet many guests who return year after year.

Returned again for the second time. As with previous review I and other peoples reviews I was again pleased with my stay. This time I went the week before Easter and over the Easter weekend. Now this is were things differed from last time. The week before Easter the apartments were mostly full, but full of the usual holiday makers and families most seemed to be from Germany and UK. On the evening of the Wednesday before Easter and Thursday lots of loacls turned up ( aparently thay have a public holiday and some festival ) this isn't a problem but it seemed to attracts a lot of younger teenagers. They seem to get as many people in to each room as possible, as well as inviting friends for the day, some sleeping on the sunbeads outside their rooms. They're also a bit noisy and the ones next to me left their half eaten food and drink outside of the room after their evenings of enjoyment. I say evening of enjoyment, it seemed to go on to about 4am in the morning (I must be getting old). This did not bother me too much, but might give families with young children some concerns. As its a puplic holiday I would assum most places are like this but the low cost of theses apartments attracts them. All was ok after Easter Sunday.
Worth saying again the rooms that are advertised as sleeping 3 people could be pulled up on the trades descriptions act, 2 people yes each on their own single bed as long as you are not very tall nor on the large size as for the 3rd person a young teenager on the sofa bed yes, but if thet are too old they may be a bit put out. I think I heard someone talking about double beds but there is only a few anf you have to request these, but I maybe wrong. I assum if you paymore for the large poolside or second tier rooms they are larger, but you are probably choosing this place to keep your costs down.
The walk to the beach was as long as ever, but after 4 days of walking I got over the pain. The location still catches people out not sure if the distance to the beach is given on various booking sites but Google maps is probably to blame for the confusion, it looks so close to the dunes ( but is not accessible through the golf course ).
Will I return? I think so, but only because I have a number of long haul holidays in a year so any other breaks have to be done as cheaply as possible and this place is much quieter than Playa del ingles

Room Tip: If you can afford it pick a larger room than you need, also think about a double bed request if you...

Just back from a good holiday at Duna Beach. As other, mostly positive, reviews we found the bungalows small but o.k. for our needs. The poolside location of our one was excellent and suited our lively 9 yr old. {seeing other reviews before we booked we requested a poolside bungalow}
Excellent heated pool and sun lounge area and a good sized playground beside it too.
We had food in the restaurant occasionally which was good value for money and snacks in the poolside bar too, also good. Staff were polite, professional and always helpful.
Rooms were clean and tidy with excellent maid service. Tv in room is payable as is WiFi.
Overall it was very quiet place which suited us fine but may not suit all?. Entertainment a few evenings during our stay at poolside bar was ok and tending to finish early. The on site supermarket serves a purpose but is very pricey for anything beyond the basics!
Locally there is not a lot of choice with just the Faro 2 centre within walking distance across a dirt track for dining [although only a few restaurants still open] and another pricey supermarket! Taxi rank outside Duna Beach came in handy and typically around 4 euros got you into the heart of Playa Del Ingles for a huge selection of eating/entertainment/shopping experiences.
Overall we had an excellent stay with the positives of Maspalomas/Duna Beach far out weighing any negatives.

Room Tip: Families with young kids usually get a pool side bungalow according to the staff but worth requestin...

Duna beach was nice and quiet at this time of the year, the apartments are small but very compact with all you need although we went out sometimes at night. Duna Beach has its own restaurant which we used often as well (very tasty meals). It also has a pool bar which served snacks during the day at reasonable prices. The pool area was large, clean and had plenty of sunbeds. The apartments are cleaned daily and clean towels put in. The staff are very friendly. The Yumbo centre is only a short taxi ride away and a taxi can be arranged from reception. The only thing I didn't like was there is no safe in the room, there are safes behind reception and they close the room at 21.30. Very nice place for the money we paid would go back.

We are two 19 years old parents and our baby. So we had a pram, luggage and her to cope with...
There are 4 pools, two small childs pool which is great for our 18 month old - very baby friendly - a small adult heated pool (really warm) and a larger pool - so our trip in March 2013 was fine. We swam every day.
The apartment was basic but clean and had everything we needed, including a small terrace area where we could sit. WiFi is extra cost but okay. They wanted to charge extra for hair dryer so we didn't bother. The beds and sofa were comfortable.
Staff were perfect, very helpful and friendly. They helped us with whatever we needed.
There is a childrens play area although most were a bit big for our under two years old, although she coped well enough.
Food in the restaurant was very good and we all found plenty we liked. Lunch menu was fine too.
You are not near anything but taxis and buses are very cheap and there are loads of them. We went to the funfair, beach, shopping, zoo park, and the water park.
Weather was great - 25 degrees - and there were always beds around the pool.
There is evening entertainment - our daughter loved the exotic animal show where she stroked a skunk, snake, parrot and more.
Only negative - There was often an unpleasant smell in the bathroom after showers, which we assumed is a drain issue.
All in all we would come back again. It suited us just fine and we had a lovely holiday. Felt very safe as well.

We have just come back from a week at Duna Beach and really enjoyed the place. We have been to Maspalomas many times over 15 years but never here. We found this measured up well with other places. It is well maintained with good facilities.
We had an apartment around the tennis court. The lawned area helps to make these feel more spacious. Some of the others do seem a little cramped but the apartments are of a decent standard and well equiped.
There is a large and well tended pool area with a good bar. The water did not seem too cold. Few are heated in March. I don't know if this was.
A good childrens play area and other sports facilities are provided as are wifi and pay computer points.
We used the A La carte restaurant and found this to be good food and pleasant staff.. Didn't try the inclusive buffet style food.
There is also a decent shop on site.
We found all staff to be pleasant & helpful.
We had a car so no problem for us but the potential downside with Duna Beach is the location. Pleasant & quiet in itself but a long walk from town and the beach. I believe a courtesy bus is available and taxi's abound but the cost of regular trips out do mount up. However. the place is pretty self contained and it wouldn't be necessary to go out. (no evening entertainment provided)
Another word of warning on the supermarket at Faro centre (the nearest shopping complex but a good walk still) The larger supermarket there is VERY expensive. + 50% and more on some items. The whole centre is up for redevelopment and pretty empty and I think the supermarket is in it's last gasp for cash to be honest.

Room Tip: around the tennis courts
