We stayed here for the late UK Half term. Weather wasn't fantastic but given the forecasts before departing came in better than expected - tail spin of Hurricane Sandy brought a deludge on the wednesday.
Think i would agree with many of the reviews here, but would focus on the following.
1) Yes very few English families in attendance - the substantial number were actually from many of the scandinavian countries - very few Germans or Spanish in attendance this week.
2) We had one of the 2 x bedroom configurations - 1 with double bed / 1 with twin - comfortable & very roomy. came with 2 bathrooms, small living area with limited TV, and a kitchenette type of arrangement. Unfortunately we had a few cockroach issues but reported to Reception and they undertook to contact outside company to sort - no idea if did.
3) Everything is very geared to very young families - teenagers would be bored stupid.
4) Strange arrangement where you can use a restaurant at either end of the complex - food pretty much same at both - did get boring very quickly.
5) snacks at pool bar at lunchtime were good and popular.
6) Entertainment was usual Animacion fair - big gap between childrens show and the adult entertainment often saw most leave as soon as kids were done. Meant often entertainment was poorly attened.
7) Seen a report that said walk to Sea front is 5-10 mins. it is 800m and nearer a 20-30 minute depending on your walk !
8) Room Change / House keeping staff excellent. Towels a plenty and room refreshed everyday. On day of rainstorm they were incredible.
9) Place is starting to look & feel a little dated. lots of the paved areas have broken paving slabs, which, whilst not dangerous, just seem unloved.
10) There is supposed to be a dress code for dinner (according to their video in reception) - totally unenforced. most attending dinner in beachwear.
11) Bar staff we found courteous - no problems. Similar for Reception.

Summary
Decent place, good sized rooms, but place is very much for young families. place felt dead from 9pm.
Setting / Gardens are attractive - but outside of hotel there is nothing unless you take the walk to the beach area.

We stayed for a week a party of 7 half board had a great time back home totally relaxed. We had granny and grandad in a one bedroom bungalow and myself and my family had a 2 bedroom which were spotless. As it was halloween holidays it was buzzing, the restaurant was very good if you came away hungry or thirsty it was your own fault ,plenty of fresh produce for breakfast, lunch and tea. For me the entertainment for both children and adults was great we all enjoyed the evenings, the beach is a 5/10 min walk away however the hotel provide a courtesy bus. We will be back

We stayed in a villa on an all-inclusive basis for 7 days in October and this has to the poorest 4 star hotel i have stayed in. This is a spanish hotel brand. If you were Spanish or German you had no problem. If you are english speaking people do not get a look in. The main problems wth this hotel for me were:

1. Service. Staff would ignore you if you were found to be english. they would only speak in Spanish so could not help if you needed anything. When you did try and communicate, they were rude and abrasive.

2. Food was always cold and very average and the menu never changes. Really catered for the Spanish and Germans. Each breakfast, lunch and dinner was the same food, same options, after a week it got very boring. It was so bad at the end we had to force ourselves to eat in restaurant. The pool bar snacks were part particularly bad the "hot" dogs and burgers were cold. Only good thing was the late afternoon sandwiches.
You need to order drinks in the evening slot but only those that speak Spanish or German got the waiters attention, you had to make a real fuss to get a drink.
3. Villa. The room is OK and cleaned daily. The TV in the room only had 2 English speaking channels SkyNews and CNN. The other 20 channels were split between German and Spanish channels.
4. Children- this hotel is hugely popular with families and those with small children. If you are looking for a quiet break in the sun, this hotel is not for you. I booked in October and it was still swarming with kids.
5. Entertainment. The usually in house entertainment which was very aveage on the nights we could be bothered to watch it.

On the plus side. The beach was only 15 minutes walk away if you followed the dead river bed. (turn left out the main reception area and turn right at the river and keep going straight on). The resort is nice and quiet and the beach is wonderful.

We made a real mistake reading the good reviews and booking here- we shall not come to this hotel again. It is not 4 star, I would say 3 star. It was expensive for what it was.

Never again.

Just back from a 1 week stay (half board) and have to say we were very pleased with our stay. Room was spotless, beds were comfortable, only complaint was the air con could have been a bit more powerful. Restaurant gave a good variety although not much for kids if they are fussy eaters, maybe something the hotel could look at wold be a kids buffet????? The 3 pools to choose from are really good, 2 smaller pools are quieter without the activities on offer at the main pool, be out early if you want a sun lounger!!! Only a short walk away is the nice bars and restaurants at The Lighthouse and for younger kids, HolidayWorld fun park is a 4 euro taxi ride away. Overall a good hotel, good food, good location for Aqualand and fun park. I would definitely consider returning.

Room Tip: Go for a suite beside the main pool

My partner and I spent a week here in October and found the resort to be of good quality. We found the whole place to be very clean, the food varied enough for an all inclusive. It was also not too packed at meal times as they have two restaurants at different ends of the complex. Room was spotless and clean in good location. Resort is also not far from the beach.

Unfortunately the staff need training in customer service! When arriving at reception we and other holiday makers were ignored and not even given a welcome - just handed the sign in forms to complete and after nudging them were able to get someone to provide us with a map of the complex. Also upon departure we signed out and not even a 'thank you' or 'how was your stay' they just carried on doing whatever they had been doing as if we weren't even there! I also can echo what some reviewers have said about bar staff. Some of them plain ignore you and serve the Spanish population over others!

But overall we didn't let this spoil our holiday and we enjoyed our stay at the Dunas Suites & Villas.

I recently went on a family holiday and stayed in dunas suites and villas. The place is FANTASTIC! Staff very friendly and helpful, it is them who helped make the holiday such an enjoyable experience.
Lots of activities to do and kids club for younger children! We stayed at the main pool all the time which was lovely!
The food was nice, lots to choose from and great to see the chef cooking the food for you.
The whole place was spotless, always sparkling clean.
Overall the whole experience was fantastic. Would recommend the dunas suites and villas to anyone!

Firstly I'm astonished by the amount of positive reviews for this hotel - the basis from which we booked our holiday. Don't be fooled.

1) Room was regularly visited by cockroaches and very dated decor. The Dunas website photographs are simply misleading.

2) The restaurant was always overcrowded, the food was bland and repetitive but my biggest annoyance was the outright rudeness of the staff. We didn't come across one who didn't grunt at us, this is having waiting most evenings at least 20 minutes to be offered a drink.

3) The pool area needs attention. We witnessed two members of staff making a fuss of broken tiles around the pool at the start of our holiday, 10 days later they were still the same.

There are much nicer hotels in Maspalomas at a similar or cheaper price.
