“Great Holiday”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Just returned from the hotel which we found great. The majority of guests are German but were OK, most guests come to the hotel every year some twice a year, Rooms are nice and very clean and spacious, maid service very good. Pool area gets a bit crowded but no trouble getting a lounger but prime spots you have to be up at 730 as by 9 they are gone and its not just the germans that do that british people are as bad as 6 beds were always taken at 6am by british guests that have been going for many years. Food is good, there is always a good choice to pick from but gets a bit crowded to get at it staff cant do enough for you. Could do with more tables at outside bar as tables taken very early before last dinner sitting. Good are with nice shops and restaurants close by.

Room Tip: Centre of hotel facing sea on 3rd floor, do not take 4th floor no cover over balcony.

We stayed at the Riu Palace Meloneras the last week of september, The weather was very good and the hotel and resort can't be faulted.

Meloneras is a more upmarket newer resort than Maspalomas which is only a 5 minute taxi ride away. There is a lovely selection of bars and restaurants on the front which are within quick walking distance.

The hotel itself is very clean and well presented the staff our friendly and little touches like complimentary champagne on arrival add a very nice feel. The look of the hotel and pool area is beautiful, there was never any problem getting sun loungers by the pool and the hotel provided pool towels for you on a daily basis. You can walk through the gardens and directly onto the beach front where the shops, restaurants and bars are. If you walk for a further 5 minutes you will find an huge beach in front of the sand dunes where you can hire sunbeds and parasols for 7.50 euros per day. There are some cheaper bars and restaurants on this beach.

The entertainment at night is ok in the hotel but not much for younger couples, we were definately in the minority as a younger couple. However because the other bars are so close to walk to and you can get a taxi to Maspalomas for 5 euro's this wasn't really a problem. We stayed half board and couldn't fault the food served although your options could be limited some nights if you don't like fish and seafood but there was always something for everyone.

I would definately return to this hotel, an amazing place for a relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a front facing or pool view.

Just back from a fabulous week at this stunning hotel. The whole building is fabulous, and exceeds previous stays in Riu hotels, the location is excellent, and in a much more up-market location than nearby Maspalomas. Food great, building spotless, only two spoilers, despite the 'no reserving' policy for sunbeds, the German guests were up at ridiculously early times doing just that, this need to be stopped, and despite several people complaining to reception, this pathetic, and rude practice continues. Also, most people dress for dinner, but the Maitre D's were not stopping the few who turned up in jeans, t shirts etc, which was a bit off, as the majority of people did make the effort.
Be sure to pay extra for a partial sea view room, well worth the extra.

Room Tip: High floor, sea view.

We came here in August 2012 for our honeymoon. We booked one of the villas and even though we weren't lucky enough to get one looking over the sea it was still lovely. Really spacious and the beds were very comfortable, my only (very small) complaint would be that the couch was SO uncomfy but then we didn't go on holiday to watch tv so it was fine.
The whole hotel and grounds are so well cared for, the pool area is lovely and the hotel / rooms etc are so clean.
We were on a half board basis and the food was really good, the breakfasts were good, a bit of a kamikazee style approach by some but... dinner was great most nights too. My one niggle was the tables were too close together and considering we were on a romantic break it somewhat ruined romantic dinners.
All in all though this is a fab hotel and I can understand the massive return rate they have. I'd really go back here and would look for a Riu hotel in any location because of this.

Room Tip: Go for a suite if you can - lovely!

With my son and his wife we were at the Riu Palace from sept 1st to the 15 th everything about
it is superb. On arrival the view from outside made me think it was like a scene from Walt Disney.
The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean in the bathroom the maid took one of the towells
and formed into the shape of a swan..Each morning the weather was warm and sunny so we had
a champagne breakfast outside on the terrace. The evening meal is two sittings and the men are
asked to wear long trousers or they could be refused entry The gardens and pools are well kept.
it is a big job to clean and tidy as the whole complex is about the size of a small town?
I would suggest anyone thinking of going to Gan Canaria try this hotel as it takes some beating.
.

Room Tip: in my oppinion any room is ok

Just returned and wow, we had a fantastic week in every respect. Booked a 1 bed villa for the 2 of us and delighted to be allocated one of the few 2 bed villas, these are just fantastic. Situated in 1of only 2 blocks comprising of 8 villas, these are located furthest from the main hotel and overlook the seafront. Each villa has 2 large bedrooms (1 twin, 1 queen) both ensuite and seperated by a large lounge that opens onto a double size patio/balcony.

The hotel facilities and staff were excellent and we cannot add to what has already been said, other than we couldnt find a variety of tea to our taste and a pot of tea around the pool one afternoon was so weak, we didnt bother again. English tea is available in the nearby supermarkets.

The grounds of the hotel are beautifully laid out and maintained, pathways seperate the villas and two pools and take you down to the rear gate that opens up onto a wide promanade overlooking the sea. Perfect for early morning joggers or those who prefer a more sedate pace, also good for anyone with mobility difficulties as the surface is quite good and the whole area is flat, so ok for wheelchairs.

Turning left out of the back gate and next to the hotel grounds is a large cafe/bar, we tried this twice during our stay but found the service dreadfully slow. There are however, lots of other cafes/bars nearby that were excellent for a pre or post dinner tipple or coffee and both Cafe de Paris and Maximilians just before the lighthouse were excellent at anytime.

Continuing along the prom from the hotel, there are 3 very well stocked supermarkets and a shopping centre catering for everything from leather goods, perfumes, sunglasses, holiday gifts, clothing, cameras, car hire etc. There are also a number of very nice designer type shops. We were half board and didnt eat out but there were quite a few very nice looking resturants, all with views over the sea, they seem to cater for all tastes with Italian, mexican, sushi being the ones I can recall. The whole area is very nicely laid out and has a lovely upmarket feel to it. The timeshare touts were a pain but most left you alone if you said you were not interested, some however can be more persistent.

Past the lighthouse is where the beach begins, beautiful wide sandy beach, clean and very popular, some organised sunbeds but in the main people seemed to prefer a towel and their own umbrella. The beach leads on to the lake and nature reserve and then onto the dunes but onroute there are plenty of little cafes, beach bars and there are public toilets at the back of the beach. If you follow the pavement up the side of the lake, a short walk will take you to a taxi rank and for just over 2 euros you can get a cab back to the hotel, which we found was actually within walking distance but it was so hot after long walk, the cool taxi was a better option.

All in all we had a fantastic chill out week, there is still so much to see and do in the surrounding areas, we will definately return to the Riu Palace Meloneras.

We went for a short stay to get away from all the rain at home and glad we went to the Riu Palace Meloneras.
We have been going to Riu Hotels since 2007 and this is the 9th, so you can say we like them.
The quality of these hotels are fantastic and this one lived up to that, it is HB and we have always gone AI so it seemed a litte strange signing for everything, but not a big problem. We were upgraded into a villa next to the smaller pool "just the job" the room had a lounge area with suite, coffee table, sideboard and large TV, the bedroom was big and the patio just a few steps to the sunbeds. The quality of the hotel in all area's is wonderful as are all the staff we had NO problems at all. "Thank You" once again RIU.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upgrade before you go, you might be lucky!
