Very friendly staff
Nice breakfast
Simple room , but very clean
Enough for 2 o 3 nights
Very centric , just 3 minutes walking to the walled old town and beach
The bed could be more comfortable , but for a couple of nights is enough

Room tip: Try to choose a room with no window to the main street. There are two pubs in front and sometimes could ear noise

This place is a gold mine for the owner(s). The rooms (or at least the one we were in) is about the size of a shoebox. 80 euros for a night for a double bedroom? Come on. The window opened to the noisiest Street ever (it was a Saturday so that kinda made sense, but it was impossible to sleep). The Breakfast was a joke. No eggs, nothing. The receptionist was pretty friendly but she could have made bigger effort. At least we could leave leave our stuff there before checking in which was at 14:00. DON'T BOOK.

We stayed at this hostal for 4 nights. We were late with booking our summer holiday, so the Hostal Macaya was one of the few hotels with availability. It was not cheap: 70 euro per night including breakfast. We booked a room for 3 people, and the room was no bigger than a shoebox with 3 beds cramped into it. There was 1 small window to the inner courtyard, so hardly any daylight sun. The bathroom was a closet and shower in one. I have never seen that before. The room was hot, unbearably hot. Now we knew we were going to stay in a zero star establishment, so we were all prepared for that. But what we were not prepared for was the indifference and unprofessional service. The receptionist could hardly speak any English, which in itself was not a big deal, but you would think that she could at least understand the basic minimum, like the English word for towel. The first day, the cleaning service had taken away all our towels except for 1. So when we wanted to shower and refresh after a day at the beach, the 3 of us had to share 1 towel. No explanation, no apologies, just a blank face of the receptionist who did not even try to assist.

The breakfast was just ok. The service from the guy from Venuzuela was great, but the rest of the staff was just so indifferent and unpleasant.

The bathroom is not really a bathroom, but a room with a shower and a bassin.

The hotel also had a restaurant, but the people in the restaurant were so incredibly rude, we only ate there once. We tried sitting there one afternoon to check our email, but we had to leave because of possible dining guests. Even if the restaurant was empty. The following day when we wanted to have a drink, they told us there weren't enough chairs and we had to leave again. The fact that we were paying guests of the hostal did not seem to matter. The restaurant staff was just plain rude and unpleasant at the Berganti. Do not waste your money here.

We will never stay here again, nor can we recommend it. The rate was extremely high for what you get. As a comparison: we stayed at a 5 star hotel in Barcelona with high service and amenities for 100 per night including breakfast.

This hostal is a joke and they do not care about their guests. Do not stay here unless there is no where else to go.

Room tip: First floor for a better wifi
